Khan's heavy choice historic mech.
That's nuff to say.
It's cool. It's nasty...
It's TIMBERWOLF (Madcat is IS gibberish talk!).

Amen; just ask the Russians about their 'T-76' (hint: never let your enemy to name your combat vehicles, opfor codename designation < propername :) )

...and I'm a 'dezgra Spheroid', too. ;)

Good design.
Ps; +1 to whoever said symmetry.

I saw that famous MW2 activision image on a poster years ago, long before I knew there even was a BT universe.
It was that image and that image alone that made me want to play the game, and when finally did, I found that none of the other mech designs were as visually pleasing as the Timber.

The Timber could be a light mech with IS tech & paper-thin armour; I'd still take it every chance I get & just make my game work around those flaws because to me it's the embodiment of everything a huge walking death-bot should be..

There's probably fear in anyone's voice when you have ANY mech coming at you and you're on the ground wearing a flak jacket. That vid made me think of a fat kid frying ants with a magnifying glass, cause he has a god complex.

Those guys weren't in Flak Jackets..that was an entire LANCE of MechWarriors...still remember how brown-panted Panther sounded that entire time he was baiting the thing in his Raven..especially this line after he got its attention with two SRMs to the back. "...g-got it's attention sir..."...his Raven's foot actually SKIDDED when he turned around.

I can't say anything that hasen't already been said here. But if I had to go toe to toe with any other mech in the BT universe, I would pick the Timber Wolf every time.

Its not that hard. A significant minority (at least, I would actually go as far to say a majority) got their start on these two right here.

Symmetry... that is all.

That is a big reason I like it. I always liked non-biped/humanoid mechs. Reverse-joint legs and the cockpit are the most prominent features.

Shares leg design with the Mad Dog (MW4), which I find equally attractive.

Mad Cat...it looks cool, its fast, its deadly...bu I dont like piloting it cuz its a headshot waiting to happen..same with the Catapult and stalker....and any mech whose face juts forward like that. In MW4 and MC2, Mad Cats got torn absolutley to SHREDS cuz every single shot fired was a center torso shot..that got ANNOYING FAST! Same for the Vulture..its like in MW4 and MC2...WHERE ARE THE LEFT AND RIGHT TORSOS !!!! Cuz they NEVER get hit... its all cockpit and center torso killing the mech before the first engagement is even over...In Mechcommander I the Timberwolf is a BEAST...the best mod for MC1 was when they let us start with a Mad Cat A........then that Mad Cat A on mission 3..cheats, and lots of replays eventually got me that mech....I managed to lvl Hawk that way...he SUCKS.....but put him in the mad cat with Pulse lasers and what not..he eventually gets good....no, I didntuse the max gunnery hack on him in that game lol. He sucks early on but eventually, I got him elite and hes about as good as Vixen or Firestorm...

Mad Cat...for me, its over used....like the AK47 and M16...or WWII an Modern Era games....they are cool, they are a massive part of our history and what not...but they are overplayed...like songs on the radio....so, that is why I am not head over heels crazy fan of the Mad Cat...its good for what it does..but meh..ill take my War Hawk...and Mauler....an Zeus....lol.

First off, art.
Madcats are exotic looking and were chosen as a poster child for mechwarrior. They are one of the most immediately recognizable chassis. Second, it's a great design in general and very versatile. Third, you find me another chassis, clan or otherwise, which that kind of firepower and speed. The ratios are awesome. It's fast enough to be hard to hit, and extremely well armed for it's speed. Sure it's armor is a bit thinner than alot of 'Mech's that are 5 tonnes lighter, but does it really matter with that kind of speed and flying deathswarms?

Because its the Madcat. There is no other Mech that tells more clan in frontline than the Madcat.

And the Madcat is the popularest Mech Mech 2 & 3 posters and intros.

My Battletech nerd buddies and I can report nearly the same initial experience. When we first saw the cover of the highly anticipated Tech Readout 3050, We were thankful, Oh yes, very thankful, because that thing was on the cover and it looked good. We had come to live with the fact that the mech drawings being presented to us were going to look goofy if they weren't based on some nice anime design. It was quite a relief. But that relief turned to evil laughter when we looked at the spec sheet for it.

It is a fast mech with enough firepower and armor to make some assaults jealous. Simply put, the Timberwolf/"Mad Cat" is one of the most threatening things to appear in the initial waves of the Clan Invasion, and it has remained a serious threat in almost every game where it has appeared. Of course people are going to like the blasted thing.

I still prefer the Summoner/"Thor", but that's for other reasons.

They are the perfect blend of speed, durability and firepower.

And they do look pretty spectacular....

I agree with a prior poster who stated that the Unseen mechs were more iconic. I have very little affinity for clan society, although I cannot say the same for their equipment. When the clan invasion does finally arrive on MWO, I shant be piloting any of the clan mechs. I prefer a challenge!

I am prepared to get a lot of hate for this and I completely accept that. None the less from what I have read the Madcat (yeah I called it that) sounds like a glorified “win button”.

Personally I never understood all the love for the clans. The whole trueborn, eugenics, and the caste system of the clans always rubbed me the wrong way.

First of all, it's called a Timber Wolf, not a Mad Cat, Mad Cat is what the IS calls it, not the Clans, and it being a Clan mech and not IS, means that it's REAL name is Timber Wolf.

Secondly, the reason why everyone likes this damn clan mech is because it was, as several people have stated, on the cover of MW2, probably the greatest thing that ever happened to BattleTech, which spawned more games, and eventually this one due to it's popularity. Also, lets not forget the animated series.

Though personally, I'm a Mad Dog fan. The Timber Wolf just doesn't do anything for me. I see a pic and I think to myself, "Oh look, ANOTHER Timber Wolf picture, how completely original..... never seen THAT mech before." Timber Wolf is totally over played IMO, and I am a much bigger fan of the unseen as far as iconic BT mechs, so I kinda wish everyone would stop using the Timber Wolf as if it was more awesome than a Warhammer or Battlemaster.

Honestly, I think it's mostly the marketing around previous Mech Warrior games that granted most of the Mad Cat's popularity. However, being an amazing mech doesn't hurt either; it is the quintessential chicken walker. I agree a bit with what others have said, some of the unseen designs (especially the Warhammer) I find even more iconic, but probably because I was introduced to the Battletech Universe via the TT game first.

But the magic of the Timber Wolf is that it was an original (some could say cobbled together) design that was put forward as the new poster boy for the franchise. It couldn't be claimed by any other brand, because it was purely Battletech. We can't say the same for the Warhammer and Marauder. While I personally dislike it, it has this remarkable "fighter jet/tank on legs" vibe to it that is undeniable. It looks like a machine of war.
I look forward to hobbling any filthy clanner that pilots one.
