Why exactly is the Timberwolf/mad cat so darn popular?

Visually it truly reflects the power it projects. It looks like its armed to the teeth, and man has it got big teeth.
The prime config. With the double twin arm weapons, ER.Large and Medium, in each arm. Two of the biggest missile packs a mech can carry, and on the torso more laser and even an array of machine guns.
It covers sniper, support, and close range assault with ample choices for dealing damage.
The way it stands, and the coverse, funny way it walks. All make it a memorable mech.
Asside from the fact it has been plastered on everything mechwarrior, for decades. What other battletech original ( not the robotech designs) is as uniquely and beautifully battletech?. besides the clan mechs i see goliaths and scorpions, firestarters and vulcans. T bolt and Mauler.

I've never been a big fan of it, especially when there are other clan heavies, like the Loki, Cauldron-born, and Grizzly, that have a much more special place in my heart. I like the Mad Dog more than the Timberwolf too. The inner sphere heavies have their own charm, and i love the dragon, the catapult, and I really love the Argus.
So tell me, what is it about the 'Mad Cat' (still hate that name), that makes so many people go nuts for it? Or what heavy do you like better and why?
Please discuss...
You sound like some kinda cat hatin' nerd that needs to be slain.

In the intro movie of mechcommander it shows friendly troops that encounter a badass Madcat engaging them.
You can hear the fear in their voices.
You can customize a Madcat however you like.
But the most important thing might be that it looks gooooood.
Will I pilot one later on in MWO? Oh yes....

There's probably fear in anyone's voice when you have ANY mech coming at you and you're on the ground wearing a flak jacket. That vid made me think of a fat kid frying ants with a magnifying glass, cause he has a god complex.

I think that was Mechwarrior 3, the one with all the troops running away from the madcat and thor.
