I'll drop $240 for a:
  • Release of all the models (maybe not even screen shots, just a display)
  • A new map
  • At least announce or pretend like you are working on VOIP
  • Roll the Launch Module out.
  • Nerf LRMs (just a little is good)
  • Make sure you allow player hosted servers when you're license time is up.

The MechWarrior:Online shirts we got at the launch party event were gifts given to those of us that got to go. PGI cannot SELL any physical or print merchandise for BattleTech/MechWarrior. Those rights seem to be strictly within the realm of Topps, Inc., who is currently licensing out to Catalyst games for the tabletop game.

Now, if you want to go and print yourself out a 3D mesh from a computer game, go ahead. Just don't SELL it for your own profit or else you'll get in a heap of trouble.

Or find someone who can make those and "gift" them right amount of money..

LOL, you're going to compare financial success of a crowd funding promotion vs. a fully operating cash store?

Then I guess my statement that MWO is doing much better than it was 10 years ago is also correct :(

If he was coming to compare the success of the former, wouldn't he need to take a look at how MW:T is doing, given that that is where the Founders money went?

EDIT:
I never actually believed this story. Well not in a MWO$$$----->MWT creation as I never saw compelling evidence of it outside of MWO$$--->IGP--->MWT. So, I'm forced to give it a [Citation Neeeded]

But it did make me laugh.

I would say he is 100% accurate. ;-)

Yup, 100% accurate considering that was early closed beta, pre founders.... :(

This whole "golden" Khan-mech sale offends me as a clan fan. Its not the price -everyone can buy what he wants - its his/her money.

But from the viewpoint of a clanner my heart bleeds when i see a GOLDEN mech on the field. Its just a waste and one of the biggest crimes as a clanner is to waste something. Its like a gheto-rapper captured a clan-mech and made it his freakign Bling-maschine.

The second insult is to tell us, the community, that a digital product is limited in quanitity. If you try to grab 500$ from someone then please dont insult him with such a stupid move.

If you would have limited the "golden Mechs" to the actual numbers of Khans in the lore that would have been a thing. And dont make them golden. Give the people that are willing to pay such an amount of money a Khan-skin from one of the 17 clans(+1 for IlKhan) that are in the lore at the time of the invasion. So make it 35. And even better - make a list. Every customer can choose his clan. So 2 "khan-Mechs" per clan. And for the Il-Khan-mech try to think about something special. Maybe one of the 35 buyers get a Premium-extra-mech that only he has or something.

Well tried to be constructive with my bad english but seriously, 500$ for a golden skin? WTF!

Can I get another one of those long lists of things I could buy with $500.00 instead of a gold skin for a game that may not be around in another year? Thanks in advance.

500$ will get you a watercooled GTX 780 that will pretty much play anything current on ultra.
Later this year you could buy a 4k monitor (current ones are 700) or get a korean 4k monitor now. Heck you could prob get 2.
A very fancy and big TV.
A dam good custom water cooling loop for your PC.
A PS4 and 2 games
10 brand new games
A top of the line smart phone or tablet.
Buy/adopt a dog (well you can here).
Buy a custom printed one of a kind Battletech figurine made of solid material.
2-3 hours of fun at a shooting range.
Fancy dinner for 2 at a nice restaurant.
A budget PC.
16 gigs of good ram.
A shit ton of skins/champions in League of Legends.
Several hundred games on steam.
http://www.1up.com/f.../top-10-buy-500
Legos. Lots and lots of Legos
A decent laptop.
25 packs of 24 beer bottles (aprox)
And old but functional car.

I'm getting tired. Someone else take over.

Star Trek Online did it too.

"Buy the collector's edition and get all this exclusive stuff!!"

And then within a year all that stuff was being given away as event prizes and then ended up on the item shop.

And then there's that whole "You never actually own it" issue with these "collectible" items.

Also, I like the whole "jealousy" card. Like $500 is an enormous amount of money and everyone should be totally jelly over $500. Everyone aspire to be just like someone who can spend $500 on digital game content!! I spend $500 on toy airplanes that every time I put in the air, there's a chance that I can crash it and be out $500. In essence I'm gambling that money every time I fly.

I can reasonably assume that since almost everyone here has a fairly decent computer to play the game to begin with, most of us have a disposable $500.00.

It's not the money that's the issue. It's the fact that you aren't getting anything tangible for your money. You don't even own what you're paying that money for. You're paying for the right to use something Piranha still owns. They call it a collectible, but it's not limited in any way other than their word, and they can make changes to it or legally take it away any time they want to. You cannot trade it like a true collectible, and when the game goes away, so does your "collectible".

Spending that kind of money on digital content is just dumb. I'd rather use my $500 for something I can actually have fun with. Like another toy airplane.

Your entire rant boiled down to I can't physically touch any part of this $500 package and no one should buy it because of it. Great argument.

Yes, it is pure immature envy, there is no other reason why anyone should be concerned with how other people spend their own money. If you lend someone $500 and they waste it on a gold mech package, then you might have a valid concern, otherwise, who cares?

There were a few others reasons I saw before, but those would probably be the infamous exception to the rule

Your point? Maybe someone has all of those things already and has enough extra money to purchase a gold mech?

@ Ashaira

Yes, LEGOS. Every kid and maybe adult too, should own legos. Back in the 70's my brother and I got a big set of legos from my cousin George and we had countless years of fun building stuff with those things. I buy them for my Nephew just so I can play with them.

I should buy some gold ones.Posted Image

PS: I should add that simple changes such as broadened weapon convergence (mitigates sniping meta) and tweaked heat scale (effectively solves ghost heat) would make the game HEAD OVER HEELS BETTER and require not much more than XML doc edits.

Bigger changes would include making autocannons fire bursts instead of single slugs (mitigates front loaded damage), reducing pulse laser burn time (greater accuracy), turning PPC damage into limited splash damage (reduces front loaded damage), giving LBX ACs alternate ammo types or turning the cluster into an aero-bomb flak cannon, and widening weapon convergence when many weapons are fired at once (mitigates alpha strikes).

They're not complex changes, but everyone needs to get behind them and SHOW PGI that THIS is what we need right now, not sparkly mechs.

Why would someone want any of those things?
