I did get bored in the mechlab one evening, so I decided to buy a 400 XL for my Banshee.

Best. Decision. Ever.

My WubShee consists of a LPL and 7 MPLs for one variant, and 8 MPLs and an AC5 for the other.

Both are very fun to use. Both are horribly suboptimal when compared to meta. But if you can get within 90M, you will severely out-alpha them.

THIS is what I mean, hah. Sure it's not nearly as competative, but it's a refreshing change of playstyle.

That's more of what I expected. I guess I just don't care about winning for winning's sake. At least, not until we have CW and there's some reason to care.

I change builds several times a day, even when they work because I get bored. I'm flexible enough that I can make different setups work reasonably well, so it's not a problem, but I cannot imagine how people can stick with 2ppc2AC/5 builds after doing 2ppc1gauss for more than a year before hand. I would go insane with boredom, no matter how many matches I won.

Big numbers and a "Congratulations: you won!" messages mean nothing to me. Doing something interesting does.

To answer the OP question, different people have fun in different ways. We may not understand the appeal of certain segments of the game to others, but it's there.

That's a difference in personality or gamer personality type.

Some players like to make "unusual" combinations work. Some like the most efficient method available.

Welp, I guess I know why I keep insisting on putting LPLs on things.

I absolutely love my Highlander 733C. I've been playing it for a while now and for me, I don't get bored because every time I play I challenge myself to get better with it. I do play other mechs and the variety is nice as well, but still love my Highlander.

That being said, I'm with Joe; when the Stone Rhino comes out I'll be glued to that mech like ugly on a baboon's butt.

I'm probably 80% spike. I want to play what is efficient and effective.

I do have Johnny & Timmy elements though, because I often eschew things that I feel are "cheap" (subjective opinion) and I also gravitate toward bigger more powerful effects if those are the ones I can reliably win with.

But both of those will generally take a back seat to cold efficiency.

LPLs, these are a weapon that are like one or two tweaks shy from being completely amazing. Don't give up hope, I haven't! :P (And I have them on a few builds. PPC damage, ER LLAS heat. Almost FLD, hitscan delivery - if it were easier to consistently brawl/get into brawl range and these weighed 6 tons, they'd be very very competitive).

It's a high K/D ratio that some people never get bored of.

This isn't a balance complaint (even though I just had the worst string of matches, personally, since I started playing--that was all my fault), but I'm honestly wondering how people don't get bored running the same builds they've been running for over a year. It's a rare event to see a match without at least one AC-40 or dual gauss Jag and a Phract 3D or holy god 1-4 DDCs.

Sure, there were a few people running more interesting builds (some of them really effectively, especially this one NARCing 3-L), but they're definitely in the minority.

So the question is, I suppose, for those of you running meta builds, or even just the same builds ad infinitum...how do you not get bored to tears running the same thing over and over?

Why would I bother switching up loadouts on mechs I like? With UI 2.0 I have even less incentive. I just run a huge variety of builds across 60+ mechs...much easier for the most part once I know what I "like" on a particular chassis.

41.2 alpha and heats up like a pig, but it sure does surprise folks when they get that much damage in one volley :D

I hope the fact I am working on mastering my 65th mech doesn't imply my marriage is in danger! :P

If I weren't so lazy, I'd start a Merc Corp where the only requirement was being married to the same woman over 20 years. It might reduce divorce rates (Oh, honey, don't leave me. They'll kick me out of the Corp!)

I hit 21 years in December, coming up on being married more than half my life!

OP this is just one of those things where different people enjoy different things. Some people enjoy practicing and fine tuning one or two mechs of choice. Some people enjoy going from one mech to another from one loadout to another. Neither way is wrong, it's just different.

From my point of view, I can't understand why people need to collect every mech they can and are constantly grinding new ones. Then as soon as they master it, they move on to a new one leaving the old one untouched for months.

total johnny btw. I love taking things people swear wont work and beating you upside the head with it. My ego demands no less.

When I get bored I like building out stock mechs that we cant/dont have and trying them out. Phoenix hawk blackjack? yup, Marauder flame? You betcha. Hollander spider? Killed my lance commander's Misery with it

Didn't mean to imply otherwise, I guess I just can't relate to the mentality, myself. Nothing wrong with it obviously...hell, I'm pretty sure those are the people who're generally pummeling me in matches!

Easy, 43 mechs to play with. Plenty of variety to switch between and that doesn't even include my pre-order of Clan mechs, or the Mauler, when that gets introduced.
