Bishop, we can do that for the June drop. Too easy.

Im sure other units besides Smoke Adders would provide Stars for such an event.

In fact, how about the 21st of June. You could start it in the early afternoon to allow EU players to compete and then it stretches into more NA times as it goes. I personally will not be present (moving from TX to NC around that timeframe) but definitely seems like a good time to try it.

Bishop hit me up last night about joining in with this Stock Mech Monday. From his enthusiasm, it was clear he was enjoying himself.

OK, you've convinced me. I'll have a headset rig before next Monday night.

I am all for it, and will bring it before the Bloodnames of clan Ghost Bear on my Alt Account. I think we will see a lot of the folks from last night willing to weigh in, too. I like a long event too, as it would allow me to fulfil my obligations to the IS and my Clan.

Be even better if Niko can convince certain members of the PTB to join the drops and see what the game SHOULD look lik, ya know?

Which part of NC you moving to? I lived 30 minutes north of Charlotte for about 7 years, in the early 2000s. Great BBQ!

Man, this needs to be a permanent option somehow for us truly alone wolf puggers. I can only play a few matches at a time randomly through the day, and almost never on the weekends. I want this option!!!!!

Sounds like everyone had fun. I'll have to look at my currently unused/stripped mechs and see how many suit the ruleset and are worth playing and make some plans to join in next Monday

It was an absolute blast. I don't mean to sound dramatic, but in essense, it's really like playing a different game. Tactics had changed. Mechs survived longer, since many ran standard engines and weren't kitted out for max-alpha. Felt like there were fewer 12-1 curb-stomps too. Good times. I would love to see this concept made into a gamemode and supported officially.

So true.

And I tell you what...... a wedge of Atlases in this mode? It really did make you break into a cold sweat....... in normal game play, 2 alphas, and pop goes the RT (LT if a DDC) and on to more threatening targets unless he is overextended.

Here? You try 2 alphas and you are shut down and being ripped apart by 3 Atlases......

Awesomes were good again. Dragons surprisingly tough to bring down.

Try to run ammo builds to cheat the heat? Ammo bays run empty REAL fast. And.... well, ammo explosions from torso mounted ammo.

Energy builds, you have to really monitor.... but done well,, their match endurance shined and when the Ballistic/Missile mechs exhausted their loads on the front end of the match, the energy heavy builds could step in at the end make or break the match for you. One really needs to THINK even when deciding what mechs to bring. You have to compensate for your teammates range limitations, and heat curves.

It was, in short, an absolute blast, and felt like the "thinking man's shooter" PGI tried to promote in the way back when before they or IGP decided to water it down into a twitch-lite FPS.

I gotta give that a try..... wasn't there one with 2 LRM5 stock? I'm thinking that in a true tier 1 match, with no AMS, it could be effective.

I was shocked at how good my stock CTF-4X was. Piloted correctly, I felt like I could handle any of the mechs we ran up against. I honestly felt the stock 4X could hold its own in a non-stock match.

EDIT: And the brawls. Don't forget them. They were long, they were ugly, and they were full 12v12 brawls. Mechs overheating, components blowing off one a time, it was glorious.

Yeah....we got in that 12 v 12 facehug on Frozen Cuty....2 Atlases and a Highlander coming right at me....I thought... well, we are soooooooo screwed. &-7 minutes later, our team drags our smoking mechs out off for repairs, having gained a hard earned win vs the Templars, a match I guarantee we lose in same circumstances in unlimited play.

Would be awesome to see the powers that be drop as Clan alts and kick off the Clan invasion as an event with us!

Yes. And like you mentioned when building 3 Lances or a Company its best to choose 'Mechs to suit a lances need. In other words, 'Mechs that complement each other's differing loadouts and roles they were made for from TT. A LCT-1M, for instance, is excellent in supporting a Light Lance. Where the heavier armed Light 'Mechs move in to engage the other enemies Lights, while the 1M stays back, since 2 LRM5's can can do good damage to lightly armored light 'Mechs.

If Urban 'Mechs were in the game, they too would be useful as a stock choice since they were made for a specific role. So if it was decided that a city map was chosen on assault or conquest or something with an objective, the team would decide if they want a 3-4 lance of UrbanMechs to halt any flanks from Light Mechs or just ambush in the city area. Its also why I want Panthers, since they are perfect for a Medium Lance since they go the same speed as Blackjacks, Centurions, and Hunchbacks. RVN-2X/4X's also make excellent additions to a Medium Lance.

There are all kinds of differing roles for Stock Mechs based on what they were made for in BattleTech by the factions.

I was being a good boy. I specifically did NOT bring my CN9-D. I never zombied well anyhow, so the XL fragility doesn't faze me. On my alt account I was getting 3 kill matches regularly with only adding DHS, facing unlimited tech mechs. 100 kph Centy in stock event? I would have been a very very bad boy. I remember CB rather well, when everyone trash talked the Centy at every opportunity..... but it was my mech of choice. Any version but the AL, IMO can be a very very bad boy, especially when no one has DHS.

That said, I rather enjoyed my ShadowHawk.
