Most fun I've ever had playing this game with Stock vs. Stock.

Fantastic good times were had tonight. Two full companies duking it out with stock mechs was hilarious fun.

Can't wait for the next edition!

It was great fun. Do you have an idea of what Mechs you might want to take?

Already joined the forum.
Well, I'm going to either modify currently owned mechs that aren't used much, or I'll buy several new ones.

I'm definitely gonna modify my JR7-F for my Light. I'd love to use my RVN-3L, too, but I don't want to downgrade my current one and can't afford to buy a new one.

For Mediums, I could modify my SDH-2H, but I'm a bit concerned about the low ammo reserves. I may just buy a Hunchback or Centurion instead. I'm leaning torwards the CN9-AL.

For Heavies, I may use a CTF-4X. I'd love to use one of my Jagers, but I just don't think they are viable in stock trim. Way too little armor and ammo.

I probably will stay away from using an Assault for now.

Interestingly, last night one chassis stood out to me as being extremely good in this environment: the humble Hunchback. The 4G with its AC/20 and the surprisingly cool-running 4SP with its quad-array of medium lasers and dual SRM-6s were absolutely devastating. The lack of long-range firepower wasn't a huge problem since most stocks only carry one or two long range weapons, and they tend to run pretty hot.

Hunchies are cheap, tough, relatively mobile (by stock standards) and decently supplied with ammo too, so you can't go wrong with them!

@ Crotch Rockit

Keep this in mind about "low ammo" concerns

Each player has the same weakness in Stock vs. Stock. That's something to think about. You have low ammo reserves and so does everyone else. So there is absolute parity. However, there are of course lots of 'Mechs that use mostly just energy weapons, which others might prefer as well. Some battles can come down to each side completely out of ammo, having to fight at close range with just a couple weapons.

Practically all 'Mechs whether it is an AC, an SRM, or LRM being used (or it might have all of those), carries at least 1 to 3 tons of ammo for that specific weapon.

A DRG-1N with 2 tons of AC/5 ammo can still do a total of 300 damage with just 1 AC/5 if you are landing every hit.

Some 'Mechs have very generalist builds as well. So they pair well with another 'Mech in a Lance. Three DRG-1N's in one lance can do 900 damage with their AC/5s.

I wrote up some tips for people on the MechForce: Classic site here.

I think I'm gonna try doing a few public drops with a mastered "superstock" 2H just to see how it performs before I consider spending my limited Cbills to get rid of the Endo and DHS.

Superstock SHD-2H

This configuration has the stock weapons/ammo loadout, but I added AMS, CASE, and maxed armor with the weight savings from using Endo and DHS. These are purely defensive measures to help it survive a little longer in a public match. I don't expect it to do very well, but it will give me a feel for what it's like to juggle the diverse weapons with limited ammo before possibly returning it to a stock configuraton.

I used a 2H last night and it was very much like a thunderbolt in the diversity of weapon platforms it has. The LRM and AC/5 pack some distance and the srm2 and medium laser help keep things at bay a bit closer.

Lots of folks aim at your arm though to take that laser off so if you run out of ammo you are a walking stick.

I redid my old founders catapult back to stock so we will see how well it does with only 2 tons of ammo and 4 medlas.

Right on man. Another tip is to start an MWO alternate account just for playing the stock stuff. You're first 25 games net you a cadet bonus on top of your normal winnings, plus you have 3 free Mechbays. By the end of 25 games, you'll have enough to get pretty much any Mech you'd like (maybe two, since you don't need to then but upgrades like DHS, Endo, etc.)

Are we allowed to re-allocate the stock armor? For example, moving some armor from the rear center torso to the front center torso, but keeping the same total amount of armor?

No way! What you see is what you get! xD I was running a Locust-1M last night, 2 points of armor on each limb...

The stock Ilya Muromets comes with single heat sinks and no Endo or Ferro. Is it legal to use?

For some reason I thought all Heros has DHS but the rule as written is: "DO NOT use Mechs with Double Heat Sinks in their stock form." Therefore, the Ilya would be allowed.

And just as a note, this is only the rule for Stock Mech Monday. Our site, MechForce: Classic is a hub where you could set up your own events (such as allowing stock Mechs that have DHS in their stock form...etc.). Any registered member is free to add events to our calendar!

Unfortunately the Ilya is a no go I believe, since it is not Canon, unless TigerLily makes an exception. 'Stock' essentially means "canon 'Mechs."

If you have any of the other Cataphracts though, and build them to stock, then those are legal to use.

I'm thinking it might be a go, actually!

Carry out the discussion here.

Thanks for asking that question RockIt!
