That really needs to be decoupled. Keyboard or joystick controls the ship, mouse controls the aiming.

I couldn't care less what input method someone currently is prefering, as long as they are all equal when the game is released. Until then it is all testing and adjusting.
Most of the arguing on the CIG boards of which method needs to be primary control theme is black or white. Nearly everyone wants either M/K or joysticks favored over the other. The levelheaded ones in those arguments get mostly ignored.

Do recall what was initial intention to release back in Dec 2013 and they are releasing now 6 months later. I think the number of game modes is going to make you.. COUGH !!

If you have alpha access from earlier, you can play for free. Right now there is only 1 game mode (Vanduul swarm), and single player only. If you didn't get a game package, you can buy a pass for $5, but... it's probably better to hold off for now. It won't give you a very good first impression in its current state.

If Star Citizen has 2 game modes, then technically MWO has 5.
You can Select 2 different Modes in Star Citizen.Vandul Swarm and Free Flight

I guess you've never flown any flight simulators or space simulators for that matter that properly model inertia. If you had... then Star Citizen would seem natural to you.
My only small complaint about it so far is the deadzone is far too big. I have the deadzone on my HOTAS turned off. There is no deadzone. Arena Commander still forces me to have a big one which is frustrating but I can deal with it just fine.
Go fly some DCS: Black Shark and get back to me afterwards. Star Citizen will seem like cake then. Helocopters have notoriously sluggish controls. In fact, even the F-18 has sluggish controls. Watch numerous in-cockpit videos on Youtube of pilots in these jets. They'll push the stick and then a half second later the jet will finally respond.

The trick is to eject if the fighter is badly damaged.
Normaly you only get two respawns in the Vanduul swarm. Everytime you die, one of those respawns is subtracted. Once your third fighter dies, it's game over.
But if you eject, the respawn count is not adjusted. You get a fresh fighter and are able to get back into the fight as often as you need.
Usually I get to wave ten or eleven in my first fighter before I have to eject for the very first time. After that it depends mostly on how long my wingman manage to survive against the far superior Vanduul fighters. So far both of them always died before the final wave, which makes that one very, very tough to beat.

Hope they figure these out, because sacrificing fun for realism is not a good long term strategy.
