There is space for individuals who are looking to join a unit with competitive goals, as well as those who just want to game-for-fun. You can be as lore-crazed as you like, or so BT clueless that you call mechs "robots" or "gundams" or "gears" or "mah whip". Of course, if you DO call them anything other than mechs, we are obliged to ridicule you endlessly.

Aside from being active in the recently completed Inner Sphere Coalition tournament, and the current Marik Civil War, Ransom's Corsairs intend to be a strong mercenary corps in the soon to be available Community Warfare.
