Dear Dead Mechwarrior,

You died in the first minute of the match. It's embarassing and it happens to us all once in a while. Like sharting or backing into a fire hydrant.

Thank you for talking! Talk, talk, talkie, talkie. Blah, blah blah. I'm so glad the dead master strategist is there to help me with my game. It doesn't throw me off at all. You know that a win will net you more XP and CBills, and you want to make sure I'm doing my best, like a crazed parent at a little league game.

Sincerely,
The Living

Seriously, do we have to see the dead people's comments? I don't care if they talk among themselves, but it's distracting and never helpful.

It's your fault he's dead because you're bad and you should feel bad because he's dead. Or something. I don't know. I'm not even sure all the team-blame that spills from their mouths can even be called 'language'.

I must be the exception to the rule as when I die I type out what coordinate I was at and how many and what kind of enemies were there.

You want to turn that off?

Like you said, if we win we both get more cbills and xp.

I wouldn't mind. It is all in good fairness. Dead men tell no tales. But as a previous poster said, the community keeps slamming that door shut, so whatever.

This is why the community shoots it down...MOST dead people ARE helpful.

Yes but does our radio still have some power left after being killed? The Mech is dead not the pilot. :)

Duh. You know how many times Kai had his Mech killed while he survived? Vlad Ward, Victor Steiner-Davion, Jamie Wolf!

Y'might wanna give your sarcasm meter a kick. Not sure it's fully online yet.
In any case, I get what you're saying. And really, for PUGs playing against people with voice comms, it's probably only fair. But then, like I mentioned, I wouldn't be against dead players being muted either.

I like to cycle through the remaining team members and look for stuff that they may want to relay to the rest of the team, but are too busy to because they are in a fire-fight. I try to give as good advice as I can and don't berate, insult, or otherwise rant.

What I would like to see is dead people restricted to team chat, preferably AFTER PGI fixes the bug that lets a match go on when a DCed mech is the last one "alive".

Guys that spout annoying stuff are just that, annoying. Ignore and continue or report them when necessary.

Hmm well I usually give my team mates info on the injured enemy mechs when I think they can pull it off, and I have seen that work well, so Im glad all comments can be seen.

I had 6 kills in one match leaving the team of 11 other players to pick up 6 other kills.

We lost 12 to 8 11 other pilots could only get 2 kills.

So ah yea! I had reason to be a voice from the dead. The lack of participation, and teamwork by some pugs is abysmal.

When you start working as a team to complete the goals. I might stop talking. If your going to be a minimal effort money grub. Well your going to hear dead men talking, and you should listen to them you might win more matches.

Its a team sport. Like Basketball or Baseball. If you screw up in Baseball and Basketball the coach yells at you. If you keep screwing up you get benched. If you screw around on the bench you get kicked from the game.

So stop whining and be a team player.

I love it when people die, and team chat important info. I can't tell you how often "Target F has AC40" has come in handy at times. But then there are "those" games...with the special people. The ones who offer all that "helpful" advice that's just distracting. Like...

"Your PPCs don't hit inside 90m!" (with ERPPCs on...)
"Why are you running away!? Kill the Atlas!!!" (See this one plenty in my Jenner/Ember when I disengage to hit them from a different angle.
"God what a sh*& team." See this one a lot from a few whiners here on the forums...usually when they are the first and only people to die.

Why don't we just institute a small intelligence test upon death? If you pass, you can talk. :)

I think a timed chat cutoff should be made for destroyed mechs. Being alive still after the mech has fallen makes sense, and reporting the enemy position thereafter, as well as any other tactical info also makes sense. After a year of playing this game, I've yet to see any crucial tactical info come from someone who's been dead more than 2 minutes, other than telling players to play the game THEIR way, or dishing out insults which clog the chat.

After this arbitrary cutoff time, users could enter a separate "Spectator" channel. They should be able to still see their team & general chat communications, but can't respond (they can only talk in the Spectator channel) Once a match has ended, their messages would then go back into the general/team chats so they can congratulate teammates, or QQ hard. ** PGi would have to fix the "alive" Disco issue before this can be implemented, I realize this.

They could even add in some cool Betty dialogue like "Life Support Failing" or "Commencing Eject Sequence." After their time in their dead mech has run out, they would then be put into spectator mode, following someone else.

Now for the part that would rustle Jimmies:
-After your time has ended, you could have an option to see a killcam of who shot your mech and from where. I can't tell how many times this would have alleviated the sometimes "that's bullsh*t" reaction I've gotten from dying. Maybe it would even calm everyone down if they see how they died and realize "oh wait, it wasn't actually messed up hit detection from the front, there was just a Jenner shooting me in the ass"

Dead men talking can have a positive impact. The dead can look through your teammates eyes and gather useful information. This can be as simple as you are shooting a fully armored opponent but a teammate might have cored someone else. A quick message to change targets to the Atlas might win the game.

Since I can't haunt the opposing force when I die, I figure I'll haunt my own team in more of a Wiley-the-friendly-ghost sort of way. I'll give helpful info when needed, say nothing when nothing is needed and facepalm in silence when I see dumbassery happen.

While there was a short while where I considered the prospect of a 'Dead Mechs can't talk' mechanic like some previous games had, I could not find a valid reason for it in public games. At a push, maybe as a private match option. The fact is it hurts PUGs more than anyone else.

The only time most players have to type is before the action or after they've been cored. One of my favourite (but arguably most useless) features is in the ECM bubble no one can hear you scream using ingame communications. TS circumvents both these problems. If you're a believer of the 'evil 4 mans' train of thought (I'm not personally), it's a viable reason to keep dead chatter in the game.

I often try and take the courtesy of listing off where my killer is and what condition their Mech is in. If it's a group, I'll try and give numbers, perhaps even a build if it was particularly obvious. If it's an AC40 Jager for example, hopefully everyone will know to engage at range. I do my best to leave the piloting to the people still playing, though I have my occasional moments of weakness.
