Meh, Maybe they should start adding more notable mechs for people that are new to the series and only recognize few mechs. Ask me 10 years ago, and the only mechs I know on here are Atlas, Catapult, Jenner and hunchback. I'm disappointed, we need real "Workhorses" and less specialized mechs for the start of the game. You start with the basics and go from there.

Check out the likely variants list posted on the first page. There is one PPC & AC/5 armed variant and one variant that comes with JJs among others. That might make this the first medium with JJs. As it is comparably speedy compared with the Hunchie and Cent but with more combat power then the Cicada. This might make it an excellent anti-scout in addition to its obvious fire support role.
due to PPC it can deal with Hunch long before later come to AC'20 range)

Not sure theres more of a generalist mech than the AS-7D. But out of that list of 4 you would have recognized 3 of the 4 are fairly specialized mechs... Support, speed, and brawling respectively.

Whereas the Trebuchet has speed and support specialties...

If you were a newcomer to the mechwarrior franchise why would you care if the mechs they added first were "recognizable"? After all, if you are a "real" newcomer you probably won't think one mech is more recognizable then another. The people who will whine and complain are more likely to be old hands that want to see their favorite mechs again as soon as possible.

It was one of the 1st miniatures I bought back in the eighties, so this mech has always been a favorite of mine. I miss the Darth Vader helmet in this depiction though.

A good solid fast medium that can be kitted out for various roles to suit the task at hand. Sounds like a great medium to add to me. It can be whatever you need it to be...

Energy - Check
Missiles - Check
Ballistics - Check
Jump Jets - Check

All systems nominal.

Not only that, but consider what the TBT-7K can be refit into. With an XL engine and a bit of tweaking, I'm pretty sure you can convert it into a 'close enough' copy of the Huron Warrior, using an ER Large Laser and Gauss Rifle. Not bad on 5/8/0 movement.

Medium fire boat. I would never pick this over a Catapult CPLT-C1 with its JJ's. TBT-5J has JJ's but loses its 2 LRM-15's. Now the TBT-9K is sexy and actually makes sense: medium power house, good speed and JJ's to let you get in and out. All depends on the variants they decide to release. I don't see the TBT-XK7 with the chain whip coming out ever.

I would have never guessed this one next. I was expecting another light like the firestarter or the infamous Urbanmech.

That said I am happy to see the Trebuchet, and out of the announced mechs, it is the one I am most likely to pilot ( assuming the TBT-5J is going to be usable), but I would have been much happier with the Dervish. Similar Role, has JJ standard, and an unrepresented weight class of 55 tons.

Really like the updated look, would run a 7k type ditching the AC 5 for a few ML , or a 7m Varient, swapping the 15's for 10's and adding some ammo for them.

Adding this mech to the medium line-up makes said line-up more solid. Might turn me into a long run medium chassis player.

I don't agree. We need more mechs that haven't been in every single Mechwarrior title since 2, so people learn that there's not only Timberwolves and Direwolves out there.

Like what though?

Many of the more recognizable Mechs are Clan, and those are not coming just yet.

The Catapult, Atlas, Raven, Hunchback, Commando, Jenner, Awesome, are all pretty recognizable IS Mechs.

Are there any specific IS Mechs you think would be more recognizable to new players?
