Every match:

Honestly, with the games I've played so far, I'd have told the crusading clans to leave the Dire Wolf at home and take a mech worth its tonnage.

The only advantage it has - potentially high damage output, is completely mitigated by the fact that it's too slow to get into the fight, too slow to aim its weapons, to0 big of a target, takes a day and a half to turn around, and it's too slow to escape a fight.

Even without CASE, I'd happily fill my side torsos with ammo. They literally never lose their armor before I"m cored. And I'm generally cored just turning around to shoot back.

I do more average damage using an all energy banshee than an all AC/5 loadout on a Dire Wolf. That's pretty pathetic.

So don't fall into the salesman's trap, people! Stay away from this lemon.

PTS taught me two things about the DW.
First, never be in the line of fire. Stay behind, peek if you have to. 100t Mech, yes, but not supposed to lead the charge. The key it to avoid any fire at all and always have allies at your sides.
Second, pack as many weapons as possible and alpha everything you see. The only way of staying alive is to make the enemy fear you, and you won't achieve that with less than 50 alpha you can dish out into CT of enemy Mechs. You must be deadly if you wish to survive.

All of this is simply a workaround of the fact that DW is uncompetitive by having so huge CT it is impossible to miss it even from sides. The hitboxes will have to be reworked into more promising state. Until then, always stay at safe second line of fire. Anything closer and you are dead.

it's a 100ton mech using a 300 rating engine. What did you think was going to happen. Even the Atlas doesn't use such a small engine. I took one look at the DW and first thought was "NOPE"

Any ever get the feeling that the testing team for PGI are all terrible at aiming? I mean, this isn't exactly the first time mechs with horrible hit boxes have escaped testing unnoticed.

The biggest issue I have noticed is that it turns horribly slow. I can get over having a huge CT if I could actually twist my mech to help spread the damage around but that is just not the case in that mech. I also love how even though it has the reverse joint legs the damn thing cannot climb a hill to save it's own life. It really seems PGI nerfed the crap out of this chassis, which is a shame because it is supposed to be the best clan design of all the mechs in capabilities but alas it is relegated to the role of long range support.

Eh, so what you are saying is it plays like an Atlas? pfft, surprise Atlas is best Atlas. You arent some invincible war god in an Atlas, it uses huge firepower and surprise/fear/field presence to make advantage. Sounds like DW is the same.

I am sure though after a while once some data has been lumped up, a hit box review will happen. I think the guys in charge of hit box review have been really busy what with clan mechs in design for how long. It is my greatest hope they are now free to return to what they were working on at christmas time with the box reviews.

I am really enjoying my Dire Wolf, and of course testing different settings to make it better.

Just a matter of adaptation, I am still getting 450 damage average but I think I can improve that.

My Dire Wolf is still with just 2 skills unlocked and no module.

if the mech is unleveled it WILL handle like a huge pig - i find any unleveled mech over 60t very hard to control and i get smoked pretty much every match without dealing out a lot of damage back - having played 4000+ games has never changed that fact even now

however one they get the X2 basic every mech all of a sudden turns into a ballerina and THEN i can start smoking everything in sight - of course i don't pilot anything that goes less than 75kph so i can only imagine it's the same for a mech that goes 20kph slower

Well, stock Atlases use 300 engines.

Best way to deal with playing a Dire Wolf is making sure you're not left all by your own lonesome. And definitely avoid urban combat if you can, you want your enemies to be in front of you so you turn them to mush with your massive dakkalicious weapons, not weaving in and out of buildings and flanking you constantly.

Put in other words, make sure you have a team to cover your flanks, then use your massive guns to turn the opponents into swiss cheese. Dire Wolf is a true ASSAULT mech. Don't stand in its way...

I highly suspect the King Crab will play almost exactly like a DW. Meant to hold a position with a little support, not lead a charge. Put yourself into situations where the enemy has to come to you. I highly suspect the awful hit boxes on a purposeful balance to having such high damage potential that you can destroy any other mech if they get in front of you.

Atlases can dance around the direwolf. Picked 4 of em apart in one game last night. Was really their fault though. If the stayed at 400-700 meters and not closed there would have been little to nothing I could do to them as the ER medium laser is the best weapon in this game right now

I figured this would happen with the full-out customization. Too bad about those hitboxes.

@S3dition

Don't throw away that Dire Wolf just yet. Change it back to its stock configuration (depending on the variant) and bring to one of the Stock day events. IF nothing happens to the servers today (18th), join up on Stock Mech Wednesday and use it there. Same speed as an Atlas or Awesome in Stock.

I've noticed a few things about the Daishi. Everything I shoot at either dies or runs. In the matches I have survived our team has won. In the matches I have died we lost.

In one match I noticed one Daishi pilot from the very beginning of the match walk off all on his own in an off direction from everyone else on Alpine, and then claim at the end of the match that his lance abandoned him. So I didn't really feel bad for him either.

I've been working on getting it elited, but even with the basics, it's not very responsive. I'll hold final judgement for full elite, but for an advanced clan mech, it handles like the worst IS garbage mech you could find.

I never said I expected it to be invincible. If it's supposed to be a glass cannon, that's fine. But glass cannons can usually aim at their target. This is more like welding a cannon in place and hoping something stops in front of it long enough to pull the trigger a few times.

I'm hyper sensitive to where my squad is while I pilot a Dire Wolf. I've noticed that I look down ever 3 - 5 seconds to see where everyone is. I'm constantly paranoid about being alone in it. Even in a group, I'm constantly whining into TS "DON'T LEAVE ME BEHIND!". At one point my friend was in a raven, walking backwards with his back to mine, and was STILL outrunning me on accident.

It was a mix of comical and pathetic.

I'd be curious to see how it handles, elited out.

Do you guys remember your FRESH atlases? How about now, with them all mastered out? HUGE difference in handling.

People do seem to leave the Daishi behind when doing the initial advance. I've taken to escorting them into the fight with my Jenner. Had one match on HPG where the Daishi I was escorting wound up being at one entrance to the underground with me while our entire team had looped around to nearly the far side.

I ran under and found some enemy, got there attention and ran back out leading them into the assault. Worked great for that. They couldn't avoid the big guy and couldn't take advantage of his lack of speed. The one Uller that tried found out very quickly that dual CLRM20's are a very poor match against a Jenner. I didn't check how many kills the Daishi got at the end, but he and I were joined by a medium and pushed the enemy out from underground and into the jaws of our teammates who had completed the circle while we stalled them.

It almost looked like we had a plan! For whatever weakness the Daishi might have, it makes up for it if you can get it to ideal spots. Oddly enough, pretty much like a canon assault Mech should be.

Stay back for the first bit, brawing isnt its mainstay it is less agile than an Atlas, but can boast FAR more firepower. So sit back and plink for the first few minutes than you can engage, oh and front load that CT buddy 10 or less in the rear is fine.
