Correct Rhaythe. I don't want to burn the premium time I had and the clan premium time at once.
I think the logical thing to do is have the premium time count down only when one is logged in. That way it is actually based on when you are playing.
I view it as similar to buying talk time on a mobile phone. We purchased hours in mechwarrior online not hours out of it.

But I also am not the kind of person that would pay for a subscription on a monthly basis.

There's nothing wrong with that. But if you had the ability to turn your premium time off at will, then players would have little incentive to ever actually burn it. It would take forever to burn through even a 30-day batch of time. Meanwhile, PGI wants to sell you, me, and everyone more premium time. That's a good thing. That's how they keep the lights on and their bellies full and the servers running. Premium time is purchased (or given) with the foreknowledge of what it is - and that it burns as soon as you hit *go*. Wanting the product to change post-purchase to be more advantageous is not fair to the company offering the product.

Personally I just want to be able to activate in "chunks". I'd prefer to be able to activate a week at a time. Heck even a month at a time would be worth it. The "All or nothing" activation we have now is very frustrating as anyone who gets packages have to activate their 60-90 days of time all at once.

I'm up to 209 days banked. Believe me, I agree. But I also want PGI to make money, so I understand why it is the way it is.

But when you buy minutes for a phone, you tend to only buy what you need, that is why when i buy prem time, it is on a day by day basis.

If it is because you bought the clan pack and it comes with prem time, well put that into perspective as well, you get a hell of a deal on the mech bays and mechs alone, PGI basically tossed in prem time for free as a thank you, the OP is the epitome of looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I don't even know what you're trying to say.
If you want me to feel bad because you made a voluntary purchase in a free-to-play game that requires zero purchasing in order for you to enjoy it, it's not working. But thank you anyway for helping keep the game alive.

Other games have purchasable timed boosts (Marvel Heroes) that are only active when you're actually in combat. Not only does the clock stop when you're offline, but it also stops when you're in hubs and/or customizing your game.

I hit my activate button last night. I never activated any of my time, founders / Phoenix / clan / or any of the time they gave for free for the last 2+ years. I had 361 days of premium time! I was floored. I didn't activate it yet, but after seeing that number the selfish part of me obviously liked the idea to turn on and off at will. But I knew from the get go that premium time was meant as a subscription to keep cash glow going, like an mmo's monthly fee, so that said nah, it should tick away like a sub service does.

Either that or only count time spent in game including the mech lab, most free games though including war thunder count down when out of game.

We are being moderated lol, but the point is, whether they like it or not, PGI is a business, and money needs to be made, enough that they can claim they are profitable. Sure other titles may have time on prem services, but they have far more micro transactions to cover for the lack of revenue in that area.

It's speculation on your part to state that another model wouldn't be as or more profitable, but what I am hearing is so as long as it's the most profitable all other things don't have to be considered. Even in the realm of capitalism that's not true.

I never said that. I did, however, say that purchasing premium time and then expecting its usage to change after the fact was silly. If you dont' agree with the rules of the purchase, then don't purchase. The free market will take care of the rest.

But we do!

Without enough income, there are no servers to play on. If your 30 days (or 720 hours, or 2880 games á 15 minutes) premium time, you can get with 15 bucks, lasts a year for you, but the cost and income of the game are calculated on those 30 days and everyone is using the premium time in such a way, then there is big dent in the income and something will fall short because of it. Make a dent that is to big and it will be the servers.

You are kidding me, right?
If this were the case, PGI would be in a mess of legal trouble right now!
Founders paid, for the most part, to help a game get made on the premise of the proposal they were sold.
What they ACTUALLY paid for, and received, was the mechs, premium time and other benifits.

How does this analogy relate?

We PAY, and receive, the premium time, mechs or other virtual product we pay for.
PGI may use this money to run the servers but that is not what we pay for!

This is an important distinction!

Finally, your premise is faulty. I'll say it again:

View PostNightfire, on 20 June 2014 - 04:20 AM, said:

Your assertion rests on the presumptions that
  • The amount of premium time sold will always remain constant and unaffected by the ability to control premium time usage but the use of premium time will be heavily impacted by the ability to control premium time usage. This is a false premise.
  • Premium time is the only OR only major revenue generator for MWO.
I realize that they are a business. Do you understand the economics of supply and demand and the possibility that they may be driving away more revenue than they are generating through this model?

Well yeah I agree with that after the fact situation. I also didnt quote you in that reply.

However there is no free market in mechwarrior since PGI has a monopoly on the license and actually had a hand in shutting down those other MW games that were active.

Nope. Read toward the end: Bullock said he would get in touch with his Mechwarrior: Living Legends contact and update if anything else came to light, adding, "There was no combative relationship between MWO and MWLL, nor was there a cease and desist letter given.": http://www.escapistm...ls-the-Plug</p>
That lie you're spreading has been disputed for quite some time now.

I think so. I don't pay PGI to run the servers.

Personally I think their server service is pretty poor at any rate. Regardless I pay for map, mech and pie in the sky feature development of the game.

We could run our own server and pay for it out our own pockets like we have been doing for a decade with MW4 MWLL etc

Yep, totally agree. It's only really an issue if you have a large amount of time banked. I'd be more inclined to use my banked time if I could do it in monthly blocks. As it stands now, I typically go, "OK I have vacation in a month that means I'll be out for at least a week so I can't start any premium time..."
