Hi,

For me the Nova seems an useless mech.

Speed: 81 kmh - the same of Heavy Summoner and Timberwolf.
the Stormcrow runs over 90 kmh
So no hit and run tactics.

Weapins and ammo: it's a 50 ton medium.
Only scout mechs are weaker.

What is this mech good for? only hunt on IS mechs?

Note: i like the B version (6 lasers and 4 (four!) MGs,
but i can't see an useful tactic for him.

Thks

With speed tweak, you're as fast as most Inner Sphere mediums but you can deliver better alphas and damage over time than any of them. And you can jump.

Play escort to the heavies and focus fire on whatever they do. You're not fast enough to chase lights but you can deter them.

The Nova Prime is devastating if used effectively. The B and S are harder to use.

The Nova actually offers much more firepower than the Summoner since it offers a plethora of light weapon hardpoints (versus the Summoner's anemic hardpoints), and it is much more responsive and agile.

The Nova is a medium, and an excellent medium. Just don't expect it to do what Heavies do.

6 lasers per arm, it's a monster at pumping damage. Just make sure you're not at the front taking aggro.

I changed my prime to 6 ml 6 sl. It wrecks everything. If you think the nova sucks, you're doing something very wrong.

I was watching the NGNG Twitch stream last night, and one of the pilots had a 12 Small Laser (ER Small Laser, because Clan tech) and 4 Machine Gun build. He could Alpha without overheating, had a lot of Heat Sinks, so he could Alpha once every 5-7 seconds, and after Alpha, he was waiting about 3-4 seconds and could fire an arm again. On top of this, the MGs are heat free. Also, by NOT using Medium Lasers, he drew less player agro, because everyone thinks "lol small lasers" completely forgetting that he still had a 5 dmg x 12 lasers = 60 damage alpha @ 180m range.

His play was devastating. That Nova build makes me want to think about getting it, to be perfectly honest.

that was the first problem, overheating even in winter maps. Actually 3 per arm and 6 more double hs.

That was my original doubt: the stormcrow is faster and can hunt scout mechs.

have to try this one

12 Small Laser (ER Small Laser) and 4 Machine Gun[/color]
---------------------------------------------------------------------
that is ok in a fast scout mech, as locust or spider.
But this medium can't run!

Thks to all!

Lol, why not fill the prime with like 4 or 5 different lasers in the arms? Koniving replied to a post I made on a video about a Warhawk loadout of 4 ER LL and he instead said, run 2 ER LL, 2 LPL to get rid of Ghost heat.

Which brings me to the point about the Nova, try running in each arm, 1 ML, 1 MPL, 1 LL, 1 LPL and THEN group firing them. Cuz, there wouldnt be any Ghostheat since your not firing the same gun. Or else 3 of each ML and MPL.

Don't blame the poor Nova Variant! Currently the best performing mech in my hangar. By the way there are only useless pilots not useless mechs.

Ghost Heat:

2 ER lrg laser and 2 lrg pulse laser will cause ghost heat

So far its m least favorite clan mech (tied with the Adder) just no missle hardpoints and alot of lasers seems boring to me and no real effective use with the ballistic hardpoints other than MGs. Can fit a gauss and lasers but not much ammo at that point.

Although it can do dual AMS mabe Ill focus on that aspect.

So far it's my only Clan mech that is topping a 3.0+ KDR. It can jump and pack as much fire power as a Summoner.

How the hell do you post images on here? I think I know the match you were referring to... 8 kills, 1000+ damage and I barely had a scratch on me. Anyways, Yeah, it was fun... I think the Nova`s secret is out now though; people are focusing them down as if they were boom Jagers.

You need to host them on Imgur or some other website. Then you copy the link they give you and post here using the IMG tag.

Also, I run 12 ER Small Lasers and Quad machineguns, it rips limbs off of anything it meets. It is however, a very close range brawler.

The mech seems decent on paper - I played with it in Smurfy, and you can fit several Clan medium lasers (3 I think) and a Clan UAC-10 on it with 3 tons of ammo... Maybe that won't play out well, but it sounds sort of like a flying Hunchback or Shadowhawk cousin in that configuration, and those are pretty decent mechs... and that's not getting into the "laser overload" builds.

Again, this is just from looking at it on paper, but Nova's seem viable.

A player named Zoeff that runs with some of the NGNG guys was consistently putting out 600+ damage games with the stock Nova Prime, often as much or more than Dire Wolves. If you know how to play it you can get some insane results out of it.
