You've got to be careful. Utilize it as a support mech and lay down fire from long range, or when the enemy is already engaged.

The Nova is awesome. I run the prime loadout on every variant. It's the ultimate cockpuncher.

Just have to resist hitting both mouse buttons at the same time and stagger fire your arms. 6 ERML takes you to about 45%. You can fire all 12 lasers if you wait half a second between arms. After that just hide and be patient and let the heat come down before you crotch punch someone else.

It's my mission to put the fear of Nova into every heavy/assault I see. Even those Direwolves learn not to stare at a stock Nova prime or risk losing most of their armor in the next 2 seconds. Medium mechs just melt away if they gaze at you for too long.

The only real issue I've had is how low and far apart the arms are. If you aren't careful you will waste half of your weapons on walls/rocks/crystals instead of the victim.

Difference between a 200 dmg Nova and a 700+ dmg Nova is the ability to maintain your target for the full laser duration. 6xERML + 6xERSL is about 70 points of damage (time the two shots to not get ghost heat), someone able to maintain a single point on the enemy will turn it into 70 points of pinpoint... Do that twice and you can take down a Timberwolf.

Lets see... burn time of about 1.3 and 1.. 0.5 ghost heat seperation... so like... 3 seconds, done twice, plus a 3ish second cooldown... depending on the map and heat sinks you might need a coolshot... so theoretically you can down a Timberwolf in less than 10 seconds if you have perfect aim and the enemy doesn't torso twist.

Food for thought.

I've only taken it out a couple of times so far as I've been running mostly IS mechs and my Warhawk. But I can say that it's a pretty effective mech if you run it right (though you can say that about almost anything). I currently run 12 ER Small Lasers because I have a bit of a love affair with boated smalls - few pilots who don't play in groups take them seriously, especially if they don't count them. They recharge quick, too. I got behind an Atlas that had no idea I was there and reduced him to ash in no time. The thing simply melts armor. An assault should be terrified to see it up close. It has decent survivability (I've actually not yet been killed in it); I've lost arms and legs and remained. Seems to absorb and spread damage well. Decent speed, jumping, etc. I think it's a pretty solid mech and will only get better with more cockpit time. I'm going to try out the variant with MGs and small lasers soon.

the nova is stupid effective in the right situations, it's a relatively fast response hard hit-and-fade mech that is low to the ground (lol @ atlases) with arm mounted melty-laser-death.

just gotta manage that heat..

In truth it is a monster!!!

OK think of it this way, you have your mud ball of a team and your nova is in the center of it. Never being on the front helps prevent your weaker mech from being focused and downed. But what about you dishing out damage? Simple when **** hits the fan to say ... (brawling) you can run up to the open parts of the enemy mech and just pin point a mass amount of damage to chew off components. In the mean time when a light mech runs in the midst of your team since you are a laser boat SWEEP THE LEG!!!

Why? Simple 6 lasers or more swipe at it can still do a decent amount of damage and if you can get multiple burst and sustain it you most likely will do the 40 damage or less to take the leg off the light mech.

I kept my prime variant with the default payload and simply switched to a three group system instead of two. I have my primary on chainfire with the second and third as a group fire. This way, I can put continuous fire on someone with occasional bursts if I need it. Needless to say, I remain more conservative in Mordor, but on the HPG map or Alpine valley? That thing just bleeds people dry.

What's really funny is without ghost heat you'd do less than 50% heat for firing 6 ER ML. So without ghost heat it wouldn't even shut down.


The thresholds we have in this game are disgustingly the reason why we have so much of an "alpha strike" problem.

New jump jet nerf really hurt this, much heavier feeling.

The jump distance on the lab says it's 5 meters further, but in reality due to the reduction in HEIGHT you cant actually go as far. You're humping up walls now - not going up and over

SCR, SHD/GRF SRM Brawlers > Nova > Most IS Mediums

So, no, Nova is not useless, just that there are better mediums

Yeah, Dual AMS is really good. Clan AMS is very good anyways so might as well. Sad thing about the lack of missile options but it does wreck face. Makes a great line mech.

I like the S variant the most. Don't even have to switch omnipods for the most part.

After playing the Nova Prime (Trial), I'd have to say that the Nova is not a useless mech. It's actually a very good mech. However, it will depend upon how you use it.

So far, after my first trial match with it flopping in my face fast (I alphaed a little too much for my own good, but still did a respectable 250ish damage), I started to preform very well with the mech. Now, this is stock prime trial, no customization options.

It seems to be a very good design from my understanding. Fast enough to move where it is needed. Agile enough to plant your damage where you need it. Cool enough if you use it well to deal a fair amount of damage quickly.

For most people, it's going to feel like a dud. You can't alpha the weapons. It doesn't have a high, pin point, front loaded damage most people prefer. And yes, it can run hot if you don't use it wisely and well. However, just because it doesn't run like the normal meta concept of the game, or that it takes a bit of skill to use, does not mean it is a dead or useless mech.


I wasn't going to get the Nova at first, as I wasn't going to own any other clan mechs besides the Ryoken and the Puma (I'm an IS person), but for old times sake, I think I'm going to have to get my old MW2 friend, the Nova. I've been getting good results so far... might as well get it. (But I think I was getting better results with the Champion 4P, back when I was trying to get "Less Green, More Mean" achievement done.)

12 ERSL wrecks mechs, keep the burn on as long as you can then run off.

It can tear through anything, i try and stay behind the enemy and use my big team mates as shields.

If i don't do 500 + damage i'll be gutted.
