Centurion - Arm too easy to shoot off (and not as much fun not running ballistics)
Hunchback - Hunch too easy to shoot off (and the 4SP isn't as good as it used to be)
ShadowHawk - torso twist range too small
Griffon/Wolverine - limited number of good configurations (mostly around missiles where I prefer mostly energy and some ballistic)
Blackjack - I would call this my favorite of the IS for its weapons alone, except as a 45 tonner it lacks in armor.

I think Stormcrow would be my next favorite, but I don't have one.

Yeah I've ran the "Very Angry" Orion too; SRM16, AC10, lasers and a big engine. As a line breaker it's actually very good. I just prefer the ALARM45 Orion because it's so much more decisive in PUG games -- I do a lot more good flaying the enemy with it, then beating some poor schmuck down with a Very Angry Orion.
Personally I'm not sure why Clan Heavies like to dance at range. DOT weaponry negates the mobility advantage, as you said. I prefer to see the mobility as being able to bring weapons into play at very close ranges, where the DOT and sanding nature of the weapons doesn't mean so much. At <50m, I don't need to aim that much with SRM24s, and my Lasers are just going to burn into that torso no matter how you want to dodge.
Angry Orion works, I reckon. I just call mine SuckerPunch.
Orion VA is one of two mechs I own 2 of. And like my Griffin-1Ns, they are locked into their roles. One VA is the brawler, the other packs 2 LRM15, 2 LRM5 and 2 Medium Lasers, which is the version I usually will use when dropping in a 4 man.
I just noticed, my "preferred builds" are lone wolf mechs that pretty much just do their thing and try to go with the flow. One of the guys in CGB noted I tend to Lonewolf too much, something I need to get out of the habit for, now that I drop with a unit again, more regularly.

Recently for the past couple months I was having fun using Sniper Mando with an ERPPC and BAP plus Adv Sensor Range and Adv Target decay and spotting people, watch the friendly LRM's come in and start hitting them with my ERPPC and watch'em try to figure out "Where the hell is that coming from?!" Trick was to have good camo and find a good spot to be quiet.
Been seeing less LRM boats in the past few weeks though, teams where NOBODY has lrm's.
Buddy who I sometimes 2 man with loves his Ember and to brawl with it. Sniper Mando does not brawl. So with the SRM's bein potent again Mando can now brawl a bit. He can actually take down mechs up close again! So also using SRM med laser Mando is fun too at times.

It used to be the Victor 9B kitted out for AC/20 jump-brawling, before the nerf made them ideal for poptart work and not jump-brawling.
My longtime favorite is the CPLT-C1(F). The Founders version has twin ALRM15, twin LL & TAG, my second C1 has twin ALRM15, triple ML, TAG & BAP. That's the chassis I usually go back to between trying out other models.
And of course, Griffins and Wolverines when I need to run something medium.

Easily one of the best SRM/energy brawlers or LRM boats in the game.

Instant favourite, ever since I first touched it. I have never been able to banish the childish glee of so many guns! So many!
Awesome 8R
Since the darkest days of Closed Beta. Lasers and a pile of SRMs has never failed to deliver a spectacular death ride. It used to be that you had to be crazy to drive one. But now they've...adjusted the hitboxes, fixed the SRMs, made it lighter on its feet. I don't know what to say, she's gorgeous again.
