Yup. I'd compare to a mobile gun emplacement, but the first half would be a lie.

I'd say it's most dangerous doing just the opposite. It's dangerous when you can keep moving and closing on your opponents. Once you "sit down" anywhere in this mech you're going to be in trouble. When you do that, you give up a lot of your ability to keep your targets in front of you and you give up the ability to manage the angles you're taking fire from. You just have to carry the kind of loadout that lets you keep advancing without putting your nose out. The DW isn't a "pilot's" mech. It's a mech that requires a more strategic emphasis. It can kill quickly with any number of loadouts. I can reliably drop heavies (and even XL assaults) with a single volley with mine. But that obviously comes at a cost... It has to. If the mech was able to defend and soak as well as other assaults there'd be absolutely no reason to run anything else.

Actually what I have found to be more deadly than a Direwolf is the Warhawks. Theoretically a Direwolf should be far superior if your just looking at the stats but in practice, that extra bit of speed and mobility a Warhawk has, seems to trump the higher amounts of firepower and armor a Direwolf has.

Speaking of atlas, do you guys not play them? Because all I hear is how slow the dire wolf is, and yet most atlas builds are close to the same speed. It was never hard to stay with the group particularly in an atlas so why are you suddenly having issues? What gets you killed is not speed, but poor map awareness. Standing at a spot for 2 minutes while your team pulls away and then realizing too late you're alone. If you can master that, then speed becomes much less of an issue in PUGs.
Part of me thinks most of the people complaining about the speed had yet to unlock speed tweak because 53 kph is more than enough to keep up with the team in a PUG.

Hmm...these myths keep getting spread...TW is good...but it is not that great. Summoner is arguably a better jump sniper and brawler (hit boxes), and sure, you can do many things with TW better than some mechs, but it specializes poorly. It is good at many things, but great at nothing. It does happen to be quick for the size though...
The issue I have with the summoner vs the timberwolf is that the summoner has 7.5 fewer tons to work with. It doesn't have endo, and has 5 jumpjets hard wired into it. There just isn't enough free weight to run that classic 2 PPC/Guass Jump sniper loadout.
To me, the Timberwolf feels like the Shadowhawk of Heavies. You have a certain number of roles you need out of a weight class and they can do them all about just as well or often even better.

The Timberwolf is definitely hard to beat in terms of versatility as you can pretty much build them to do just about anything. However they are far from perfect.
The Stormcrow on the other hand is pretty darn sweet from what I can see. It is super thin making it one of the more difficult mechs to target its CT on. Also it can mount a very good amount and mix of armament. Also it is fast by medium standards especially considering the amount of weapons it can mount.
The Warhawk also seem surprisingly resilient and can pack a mean wallop without suffering the terminal maneuverability issues of the Direwolf.
Direwolf is unfortunately a one trick pony. Massive firepower at the expense of doing anything else well.

i was trying ot make the Dakawolf work and while it can still be fun its borderline useless. they need to fix the UAC2's get rid of the damn ghost heat or lower the cooldown back to what it was.

The DW needs to be able to sustain fire especially considering the fact it moves so slowly. Once you are in a fight, you are most likely there for good.
Everyone just looks at the alpha it seems. In a DW all alpha is great. A great liability I would say. Say you get into one firefight situation where you have to suppress more than one mech, send more than one salvo of return fire, and then you overheat and die, end of story.
I guess it comes with the mindset of BIG though. Just rack up huge numbers without the thought of application.
I actually kind of like the OP's build, but it is just begging to be turned into a toaster oven if a fight gets rough.

I haven't seen many well played Stormcrows, but I'd still say they are the second best Clan mech.
It would be down right frightening if they had jump jets.

Indeed. You should see when DONTOR, my alias, and David Jorgenson are running a Crow Pack. We decimated literally everything, all night long. Elo tried to kill us, but short of tossing SJR at us, IDK what it could have done. It was literally the most brutal night of maulings I have ever participated in.
The Inner Sphere dogs should rejoice. They almost got to know what it feels like to participate in the Clawing. As a victim to the mighty Ghost Bear!
