I think in the case of the CSL, comparing it to the often loled @ IS Med Pulse Laser is more accurate. For .5 tons, you're doing better than a 2 ton weapon.

To be fair, there are a lot of things better than the IS Med Pulse... :(

And no reason to use the CERSL. Congrats, they've traded viability.

Not quite.

2 CERSL: 8 damage, 4 heat, 200/400 range, 1 ton, 2 crits
1 CSPL: 4.4 damage, 2.4 heat, 180/360 range, 1 ton, 1 crit

They serve different purposes. If you have more tonnage than space and run hot, CSPLs are superior. If you run cool and have more space than tonnage, the CERSLs are better.

Oh, you silly 'Muricans. Biggest to smallest, or smallest to biggest. D/M/Y or Y/M/D. Same with your silly Imperial system.

As for the topic, why did the MPL get such a large heat nerf?! It was supposed to have 4 heat in the first place, and now nerfed to 5.5. For .4 extra damage, I would never expect 1.5 additional heat. At least it's less than a second burn time now, still not quite enough.

Pffffft. This game is clearly celebrating OUR country. Red lasers? Blue missiles? White snow? 'Murica.

Also, notice how those two examples (D/M/Y or Y/M/D) both include that third value? I'm not a mindreader...and since I live in America, I chose to put it at the end, where I'm used to seeing it, and declared your date invalid.

You can't tell me there aren't people on this forum that WOULD simply get it wrong...'cause we're all such geniuses here.

Hardpoint availability should also be taken into consideration.

I have seen Firestarters and Swaybacks use SLas without problems. In fact, I have better experience using Slas than Mlas on my Firestarters. The Slas is mostly limited to certain types of mechs but it is after all, the Slas.
It was never meant to be the workhorse, like how it was pre-patch. That honor should always go to the MLas.

the SL is an uber-niche weapon. It take

1) The right mech
2) The right pilot
3) The right Elo.

If all of those allign, then MAYBE the SL is good. I have seen some folks run firestarters with small lasers.

But it is such a small population as to be effectively a shelf weapon. Compare that use to ISML's which are the default backup weapon.

If the cERSL was 225-250m instead of 200, then the change might be worth it. Not at 200m.

The only mech that would take serious consideration of Clan ER Small is the Nova...

Until then... some missile/AC40 boats will continue to skimp and use (Clan) Small Lasers...

Yes, so advantageous that even with the previous numbers I've seen all of 3 novas in an entire week running cER SLAS and no other clan mechs doing so.

Here's a hint: 180m range weapons when you can't run 150kph are kind of bad.

Wait, you want a 0.5 ton, 4 damage, 2 heat, 2.25 cooldown laser to have 250 range? Is Mlas will be so inferior in comparison if that change is implemented, that those who cries Clan tech is OP will be right.

You really need to get back your common sense.

this assumes constant fire. The reality of MWO is that you do NOT maximize your DPS. Ever. Even if a circle of death you do not fire every time a weapon cooldown is up. This is not WoW where you sit at the dragons back leg and focus on max DPS. Every mech has to tank to some extent. Everyone (should) torso twist, etc. And that makes short cooldown times FAr less useful than it would be otherwise.

I don't think anyone says the IS Small Laser is alive either.

Lies! They are actually really useful for low ton competitive matches, which generally devolve into very close quarter, long duration brawls. Long-term heat management is key in these games and range isn't a big deal like it usually is.

There are low-ton competitive matches out there that devolve into brawls?

I feel like you've been playing Hawken and came to the wrong website...

Nope, I would rather the dmg be bumped back up to 4.5 and make the cSPL 5.

4.5 dmg at 200m MIGHT be worth it. Maybe.

There are fast Clan mechs that can go up to 130-150 kph within this time line. PGI will release them eventually so chill.

But that means for half the IS Mlas weight you get almost full damage + faster cooldown. This is not a small laser anymore.

Unfortunately, most PUG matches look more like AssaultWarrior Online, thus mitigating the overall effect/impact. Most of the time I do see such a build, I'm drooling over killing it.

Thank you for nerfing CERSL! They were retardedly overpowered. 4 damage for 2 heat is far more reasonable.
