Doesn't nerf ppcs or gauss, just a specific problem.

Add Gauss to PPCs for ghost heat. Gauss sniper uneffected. Lone ppc builds uneffected.

No rework of convergence required.

No need to nerf chassis.

[redacted] Ghost Heat.... but it works.

So instead of 1 heat, gauss generates 2? Does ghost heat still kick in if you have 2 gauss rifles and 1 PPC? If so, we're still not talking about any significant heat values.

Then you have to do it to all ACs + PPCs, not just Gauss.

However, I seriously dislike the idea...honestly...SERIOUSLY dislike Gauss + PPC ghost heat. I think that opens pandora's box, and it treats a symptom, but does not solve the root of the issue.

I thought the question was... "what is Paul's worst idea ever?"

If we're going to add arbitrary penalties, at least do it with some style. Some of my personal favourites:
  • Yeti attack. A yeti, like the one in Ski Free or Die, will run at you from the edge of the map in alpine, causing instant death.
  • Monty Python. A huge foot will descend from the clouds above, crushing your mech instantly, followed by a fart sound.
  • Earthworm Jim. A big cow will fall from the sky, destroying your cockpit. Earthworm Jim will appear in front of the screen and say "Groovy!"

I say we just make any mech that fires a gauss and a PPC at the same time spontaneously explode, and then have the game yell disparaging slurs about the pilot's manhood/womanhood at them.Yea.that'd be great.

but, your idea would probably work too. :P

right since the root of the problem is PIN POINT damage and HOST STATE REWIND/HIT BOXES. those are what need to be fixed to make this game more like it should be, were everything is viable, and meta doesn't pawnage so hard it hurts

Apparently.. not?

(I thought of about 6 better ideas off the top of my head when I read that nonsense.)

Yea,basically.
As long as we can combine multiple weapon systems into one big super weapon with one button press,AND have it all hit the same pinpoint location. The current state of things will continue.

Alpha striking is supposed to be a rare,in extreme emergencies, occurrence. Not an "every time I shoot,I alpha strike" kind of thing. Also,The weapons especially shouldn't be hitting the same panel from 600+ meters out.

There needs to be a convergence variance when alpha striking, and a disincentive to alpha striking in the first place.Ghost heat kind of is a disincentive, but it really only works for some of the extreme builds like 6 ppc stalkers, and it's easily avoidable.

And you can leave the "But mah skillzzz" argument at home. This isn't CoD,mech targeting systems aren't supposed to be perfect(well, clan targeting computers helped, but even still, they weren't pinpoint accurate at 800+ meters every single shot.).

Besides that,it's much more difficult and skillful to land every shell of a UAC20 on the same target panel than it is to land one mouse click.

Honestly,I think the biggest damaging alpha/damage in one shot option should be limited to whatever the most damaging weapon is in the game. That being the AC20 of course. So,any combination of weapons adding up to 20 pinpoint front loaded damage at once.well, maybe 30 PPFLD.*shrug*

Sure. Fix convergence. I am a big fan of the idea.

Until that happens though, gauss adds ghost heat like a 3rd ppc.

Ghost heat was put in to deal with 4x and 6x stalkers, boomjags and the like. Then remove the charge-up mechanic but increase the damage from gauss explosion.

I would love a big comprehensive fix to ppfld. In lieu of that, work with what you have.

While I wish PGI had the cahones to step up and make some major changes to edge things back toward a more "battletech like" situation,we probably aren't going to see that happen. At least, not anytime soon. So,i agree that they might as well keep band-aiding on the ghost heat until things are a little more "mech slugfest" and a little less "TROLLOLOL 360 NO SCOPE HEADSHOT LOL DIAF KID" status.

I heavily disagree. Gauss has enough drawbacks without adding ghost heat to the mix.

Adding them to ghost heat with PPC's,wouldn't really affect the gauss itself.Like,at all.
It would still work just the same as a single or double gauss setup.

Yes,ghost heat is bad.I think everyone agree's with that.Well,'cept maybe paul.
BUT,until they step up and decide to fix some core mechanics issues...that's basically all we've got to work with here.

Dunno where that ridiculous idea originated, but it's wrong. A lot of mechs, even canon mechs, are designed such that they can repeatedly alpha with no problems. Only in mechs designed with far more weapons than theh can safely fire at once is your definition applicable.

I think alpha striking should turn off your cpu fan and overclock your fsb

Real Solution? Drop the RoF of both PPCs and Gauss by almost half.. 7s and 8s respectively. It is absurd they have among the longest ranges in the game, and yet fire as quickly as the SRMs and AC20...
