Mediums in general could use a buff. But I dont think the nova in particular needs one.

Then I went to the clan lights. KitFox, one go to build but otherwise felt meh. Adder, haven't found a build yet that I couldn't rock with, excellent flexibility and survivability.
Wondering if this is what I will find with heavies and assaults? One good and one not so good mech.

For what it's worth, my Prime has 6 ER mediums and AMS; my S has 2 ER large, 2 ER mediums and 4 machine guns; and my B has 6 ER mediums and an ER PPC.
-edit-
Adders are great! I can't think of another mech of it's size that can deliver as many missiles. It's also surprisingly good with a single Gauss rifle, 3 tons of ammo and two small lasers.

Consider this: For every medium you take the other team gets one as well, and only the Stormcrow and the Shadowhawk are even comparable to the amount of combat effectiveness you can bring. 3rd is far from terrible, considering how many mediums currently go unplayed.

It's not a bad mech, but nothing amazing. For 5 tons less, the ShadowCat will have 1 more ton of pod space while having more JJs and MASC.

For me it was a twin 30...but then that got nerfed into twin 24's thanks to ER SL nerfs, because for whatever reason PGI loves nerfing and raising heat on short range weapons while buffing the living crap out of long range weapons.
But if you run 5 ER ML's on each side. 35 damage, 35 damage. 450 meters range.
Colder than firing twin AC/20s. Change it to 4 ER MLs on each side and fill in the gaps, 30 and 30 and VERY cold on Terra Therma.
What more could you ask for?

I've been meaning to give you this link for some time... now seems apropos.
There are some parts that are mostly or only relevant for offline interactions, but based on what I've seen I suspect those may be helpful as well.

Black Hawk at least has a crapton of energy hardpoints, it has a niche role of pewpew trolling... It can also be a medium class poptart for the Clans, I guess (because the Ryoken lacks jets).

...What?
The mech had and still has the following weaknesses:
- Lack of Endo Steel/Ferro Fibrous severely limits its pod space
- Most weapons are arm mounted, making it fairly easy to neuter
- Rather mediocre hitboxes, including large legs
- All weapons are low-mounted
- Somewhat slow for a medium mech
- Isn't 55 tons

It also gets a faster top speed, even without MASC turned on. Potentially even gets high-mounted hardpoints, judging by the classic artwork of the mech.

I agree that the Nova should be more squat, and wide... (thinking back to when I first saw it in mechwarrior 2).
I found the mech performed very exceptionally when I was mastering it (1.5-2.5 K/D ratios, reasonable W/L ratios even while pugging). 350-450 average damage across the board (total damage divided by total games).
I have a little over 2,000 matches in my Jester, which I use almost exclusively as a jumping laser-boat. So when I got my hands on the Nova it was a very natural fit for me... 6ERML + 6ERSL equates to about 70 damage, damage that a very steady hand can make pinpoint.
If you can't pinpoint a laser for its full burntime, then yes, this mech is going to be pretty tough.

The heat isn't an issue with all ER SLs
The 12 ERSL build was (and maybe still is) over powered for a medium mech...
It takes some skill to stay alive but it shreds other mechs in its sights...
The Stromcrow I find a bit more fun as I am not a huge fan of boating and prefer more rounded builds, but the Nova doesn't suck...
If your not liking the range on the SLs take some off and add 4 ERMLs for some range... gives it some more options... (keep the ERSLs IMO for the low heat as you can fire those all night long )

It's also completely defenseless past 400 meters (360 meters prior to the damage nerf) and isn't FLD. You also can't fire them all at once due to

You are much, much better off boating ERMLs for the ability to defend yourself at range. Fights don't magically start at 400-200 meters most of the time...
