I decided to go 8Q stock weapons on my dusty 9M. I had an absolute blast with it. I had a 3 kill/560 damage game and a positive KD despite losing 6 of my 8 games.

Mildly funny to see all the bandwagon jumpers getting on board again. Only a few of us stuck with the Awesome through the bad times. We know who we are...

Indeed. And it's fairly easy to see which players have been piloting the AWS in the bad times, and which players are just dusting it off or trying it now.

I'm pretty sure Jesus was talking about AWS-8Q pilots.

I wish we had a Catapult celebration thread (no more VCRs and correct sized PPCs).
Well, the Awesome needed more help anyway. Congrats Awesome pilots o7

My favourite IS mechs have always been the Raven, Awesome and Catapult. So I'm happy to see the AWS get the buff, like I was happy to see the RVN-2X and 4X get theirs.

But there aren't really too many Catapult pilots who love their mech like Awesome pilots do. You see Founders using their C1 Catapults as PPC poptarts or ER laserboats with no missiles at all. Or K2 pilots with gauss rifles in their torso and a pair of small lasers in the huge arms. It's disgusting. Like a Raven 4X with AC20. They're the same people who would drink pirate potions in WoW, to make their characters look like pirates.

Allah will punish them.

I have noticed awesomes all over the place since the patch, and while I can't speak for the design quirks they were given, they are pretty fun to blow up :)

Actually, I hate blowing up the underdogs. Whenever I one-shot Locusts with PPCs, I always feel compelled to apologize to the brave people who pilot them. Same with Dragon pilots or Puma / Adder pilots.

Well, I'm a bit guilty of abusing the K2s intended design (2 A/C10s and 4MLasers), but I always try and run missiles in the Cat C1. That is why I would like to see the Cat C1 get quirks like the Awesome. Where the awesome gets quirks to promote energy weapons, I would like to see Catapults getting quirks to promote missiles (its speciality). Problem is, people hate missiles so much in this game, no one wants to promote this idea.

This is great for us who have learned to play awesomes effectively when they were arguably the worst chassis for the longest time. Now these changes make the chassis usable again.

Wait a week or two and the novelty will die. Those that will remain will be us faithful awesome pilots again, with the only difference that others won't automatically run away from the chassis like it's the plague, and will drop in them for a match or two before returning to current "meta".

And to think after all this time, I just sold off my 8q, for the second time :'( I never thought I'd see this day. Time to bust out my 9m!

The true test will be can it consistently perform well. Screenshots are fine but they aren't anything I haven't done already.

Awesome were my second mech after hunch backs and my 9M was my first go to mech, and I've always played them good times and bad, but my hat goes off to the hardcore awesome pilots. The dedicated ones (not me) that placed in tournaments with then while everyone else was spamming strikes in their victors. This is your day gentleman, you sirs are awesome!

Guass kitties were the "NERF THIS" goto for a good 6 months, because at the time there were only 8 mechs, so you could count on 6 altas/slas hunchies in every game, usually more Atlases.

Guasskitties bitchslapped those atlases so yeah.

Awesome 8q pilot from the begining.

had a couple of 800+ games with my 2pp+5ml awesome 8q, now the awesome feels more like the cannon awesome, it takes a beating and still keeps pumping ppc after ppc

excellent changes to the chassis, it needed some love and my 4 awesomes would like to thank you

I've been having 500-1000+ point games in my 9M since before the first Assault vs the World tourney. Quite honestly, the Awesome never stopped being a good mech but rather became a less viable mech due to the combination of ghost heat, bad missiles, and the plague that was/is the jump sniper meta. Yes, the hit boxes and overall size of the mech make it difficult but it is still smaller than an Atlas while being faster. That it didn't have JJs and was energy reliant really hurt it.

To those coming back to the AWS, I say, "Boo to you for leaving" but I still accept you back with open arms.

Been running it like this for a long time, took it out tonight
Aws-pb
Xl400
2-erppc
2-srm6 2t ammo
The rest heat sinks
Performing in the 600-700 damage range.

Shouldn't that be 3 flamers with SRMs? :P Just an fyi, you could sling the 2 SRM6s and replace them with 3x SRM4s. It is the same number of missiles fired but you get a faster refire rate. Though, I can see some people wanting to avoid that due to having one of the launchers in the arm - messes up the burst potential due to aiming with two reticles.

Yep, finally. Just had an Awesome match on Caustic Valley. AWS-8Q, 2xERPPC, PPC, AMS, 20 DHS, 300ST, Master level. Trick is to be sneaky and be accurate. The AWS is still a wide target.

My 8Q build started as a joke to see how badly I could make it explode. It is 4 PPCs in the torsos and 2 ERPPCs in the arm. This kills you if you alpha. Depending on the map you may be able to override and alpha twice before being ridiculously dead. I got used to it and have had several 700+ matches and multiple kills with it. Alpine is amazing as you can suppress the entire team with one ridiculous mech. I call it Zues because well lightning. I sadly don't have any screenshots but I may be making a video of awesomes owning and have the everything is awesome song in the background just because.

Good afternoon one and all. I too am here to celebrate my delight at the recent resurgence of the venerable Awesome. As an avid enthusiast of the chassis since closed beta, I was loathed to find that my Awesome collection could no longer be viable, considering the jump jetting, slim profiled counterparts such as the Victor and Highlander. With SRMs being broken for almost a year, my once ruthless and destructive 8R had fallen into disrepair, looking eagerly on as smaller, more spritely mechs were fielded.

Slowly, my Awesome collection began to dwindle, the 9M disappeared, the 8Q vanished into a shower of Cbills, but I never quite had the heart to hit the button for the loyal, box shaped behemoth that looked back at me with sad eyes (8R).
During the dark ages of the PPC + AC5 meta, and in a moment of blind desperation, eager to feel once again the exaltation of fielding this most honourable of chassis, I purchased the rare and endangered Awesome 8T, but was desperately disappointed with what ended up being a large Hunchback 4SP.

Minor hit box adjustments were made, jumpjets were nerfed, the clans invaded, SRMs were fixed, but still the Awesome struggled to find a niche on the battlefield that befitted its pure Awesomeness. Now, with the advent of these buffs, the hangar has opened once again and stepping out from the darkness comes forth an energised vengeance, stout, square and determined to sear a blazing mark upon clanners and IS mech alike. Long live the Awesome!

This was an 8V rather than an 8Q... But I wanted to make a small point.
and it was before this patch.

AWS-8Q seems to be either crash and burn or crush them all, like we were down to 3 vs 5 and I got 4 kills of the 5 and we ended 3 vs 0. Seems like you need to sneak around corners and hope the enemy team just sees a harmless rusty old AWS-8Q.

I think my config needs more damage. I may switch one PPC for 2x LLAS. Everything is putting out way more damage against it. The problem is just the way Energy weapons are handled in MWO.
