Th thing is the physics are here now to do it right. In past MW games we really didn't have the right engine to swing a axe or hatchet and if it hit you gash into the mech or lop off its arms. Also i really dont see an issue with balance they are heavy and th user has to sacrifice allot to us them if i recall they weigh almost as much as a AC20. So if a guy wants to try chopping at ya instead of shooting i'm all for it. To his or her own and adds just another play style for more depth =)

Which is why we need an assault with jumpjets, Highlander Burial!

The good old days of MechWarrior melee combat.... which in previous games basically consisted of me picking up my uller and go full speed ahead against everyone :)

On a more serious note, melee combat would be interesting but the devs already stated that it's not going to be here on an initial release if i recall correctly. Still, maybe it can still be done somewhere later on.

Cheers

This is one of the most rediculous things of the battletech universe.

I know as soon as melee combat is/if introduced I will be out the door.

With a game centered around "realism" in the future setting, melee combat would be just absolutely rediculous. I am strongly against this.

Hey, if it's canon I want it. Bring on the quads and LAMs too. The really "bad" canon of the Ares and the protomechs are far enough out to not worry me.

The problem is... I think BT is outdated in alot of ways, and in need of a "fresh" look to fit more accordingly with today. Considering it's basis in realism, what good could hands possibly do besides making your mech more self sustained in a combat zone. (moving weapon crates around to help the tech's work on your mech, etc.).

Aside from ramming and DFA, I say axe the melee combat. You don't spend ten million C-bills on a war machine and then arm it with an axe or a sword with the intention of sending it to smash an enemy. That would be like fitting the ram from a trireme to a Sea Wolf-class submarine. How it is, exactly, that a MechWarrior uses his/her 'Mech like a giant battle armor suit has never been explained satisfactorily. And frankly, it doesn't make sense.

Bring on the battle armor, the conventional vehicles, quads, Clans, ProtoMechs, colossals, &c. But LAMs and melee should stay where they belong: In anime.

Vote YES for Melee 2012! It is the most important one you will cast this year!

Melee combat is a huge part of the boardgame. Its definitely important that I be able to crater dirty clanners faces in with an Atlas.

Well they've said that they wanted to do it, but couldn't find a fair way of doing it at the time. then months later they brought up the Axeman and Hatchetman in an ISN post so one would think that they're still tinkering with it.

Just because the cockpit was caved in and is now in the back of the mech doesn't mean he is dead!

hmm sad melee isn't there at release, hopefully they will implement it as soon as possible!

in my opinion, it adds another level of tactical options.

Melee combat puts you in optimal range of an AC/20 so there is a risk involved at least.

Actually its highly likely if you planted a hatchet in the command chair the pilots a goner  0 armor 0 structure in the head equals bad day for the pilot...

With luck we will see melee but if it were easy I expect it would have already been done. I do long for the days of picking up the disembodies arm blown off some unfortuante battlmech and beating an enemy mech about the head and shoulders with it. Ahh those were the days <_<
