Events are worse than useless if people don't feel they can participate.
Should they just give it to you for free then?
Instead of mechbay challenge they can just call it "mechbay weekend" so you don't have to put in any effort?
The lowest common denominator is a bad group to cater to

Seriously everyone should be able to do this, even just racking up assists.

I don't think that phrase means what you think it means.

Champion, Founder, and Phoenix variants are not excluded from this. If the 3F cacn be used, the 3F(C) can be used. I can't say for certain, but I didn't hear anybody say that their hampions or Phoenix mechs didn't count during last weeks challenge.

No good deed goes unpunished, right? Anyways, I joined back in and luckily I end up with credit for five assists as my team pulls into a 12-10 victory. I hit 100 exactly by luck.
I got my mechbay, I'm happy. I only got six kills all of last weekend, so I didn't get it, but I mananged to get it this time around. Its a lot less pressure when I'm not worried about that kill shot, and as a result, I'm positive I performed much better today than I did during anytime last weekend. I'm not a good player, and I'm not quite that player that ends up high on the scoreboard, so I felt that my contributions to the team and the event were actually worthwhile this weekend. There were some curbstomp matches, and I ended up on both sides of those matches, but they were significantly more coordinated and cooperative than last weekend.
As a side note, I think tier offerings might be a good idea. Purely mathematically, the event's incentive for me to play the game is over once I reach the goal. I'm still going to keep playing, but the event is more or less over for me. I think a potential fit for tier offerings is to have the primary reward as the first tier, and then have either free equipment (one free Endo-Steel or DHS installment on a mech of your choice) or some sort of increased sale discount (for C-Bills, not MC) towards the mechs already on sale. The higher you score in the specified mechs, the cheaper the sale mechs become. Your wallet thickness goes up from all the matches while their price goes down until it meets a certain threshold. I could buy that Awesome I want now, or I could get some more points, say, another 50, and have its discount go from 35% to 50% (maybe have the discount variable based on the weight of the mech, so that it doesn't make heavier mechs, mathematically, the best deal). Its not MC-related, so nobody is too upset about missing out on the higher tiers, and even if its not enough to interest somebody, they've already participated in the event.

I agree with the above, good suggestions to keep the challenge going!
It took me 10 games to earn the free mechbay. The assists were a welcome addition.

This week I can play normally and work it over 20 matches or so (normally average 8 assists with a few kills, so good scoring).

Run out in the missile locust with two lrm 5 and a TAG and rack up assists!
Or sit in the back with a missile boat like a good third of the players did last challenge, and which appears to also be happening this challenge.
