If there is a chance to win the fight, I'll take that opportunity with a bit of caution. If it's an impending gank session, I'll charge in with override.

I try not to take 15 minutes...but if that's what it takes...

Did you know it was possible to lose two Dire Whales inside of a city?

If a match is taking longer than I would like, there's a reason I have two sets of modules. Get into another mech and start again.

There has been a number of situations in the past where either the enemy has confiscated my weapons (naughty) or I've been forced to enable sneaky ******* mode. Shut down is a tactical option. Your enemy might be dangerous but he's dropped a significant advantage if he assumes you're just another pile of steaming scrap metal.

I think the finest example would be a showdown between my friend (piloting a badly damaged K-2), and a well armoured Atlas. The map was river city and my friend retreated into the tunnel beneath the dropship landing pad. Inside was a wrecked Battlemaster, belching smoke as it lay propped up against the wall. My friend ran over, turned on the spot, and powered down.

Lo and behold, the Atlas ran right past, confident he could find that pesky K-2 and finish this game. My friend powered up, unloaded into the Atlas's unprotected back and brought down the juggernaut that would have otherwise carved through him with ease.

Was my friend congratulated for his stealthy shenanigans? Nope, through the entire time he was powered down the chat filled with insults and complaining, ranging from accusations of cowardice to suggestions that some precious snowflakes valuable gaming time was being wasted.

After gunning down the Atlas my friend proceeded to bring down a Hunchback and critically wound a Raven. He gave no reply except to say that he fared better with his whinging allies as piles of scrap to hide behind than as functioning mechs.

Was he right?

The only time I will make a comment is when the last guy is not trying to score points. Seriously, some players act as if either their KDR matters or repair costs are still in the game.

But OP you describe very specific circumstances.

1) You had to be on a bad team

2) You are the last person standing despite trying all match

3) You actually have a decent score

Start observing the last men that receive comments and tell me how many meet all the criteria that you have set. Usually if people are continuing to try nobody says anything.

Oh, boo-hoo. I suppose at the golf course(or miniature golf) you walk up and throw the other person's ball off the course because they are wasting 5 minutes of your time? At the movie theater do push the kid who can't decide what candy he wants out of the way because you might miss a preview getting your popcorn?

You aren't the only one playing the game so try and have some respect for others in there with you. If you can't show respect for others, play single player games. Don't punish the rest of us because:

Your comments are pretty ironic. The last one alive, that will accomplish nothing, what motivation does that player have to continue his charade? isn't wasting others time disrespectful?

And your golf example is funny. When you play to slow the martial can make you pick up your ball and go to another hole. In golf it is poor etiquette to play slow, because it is rude and disrespectful as it also slows the pace of play for others.

I did this in a couple matches today, being the last one alive and no weapons. Usually I just go and die, but I was bored and the hate I inspired was glorious. I think from now on I will be doing that just to make people angry.(it's even better than gg close) When I got tired of looking at a shutdown robot I just ran out of bounds, making everyone even angrier. The lols where all mine. In truth I was frustrated at the stupid Nova I wasted cbills on earlier. Thing had it's arms blown off two matches in a row and I wanted to make them that did it suffer.

I fully support ninja LMS and conquest point winners. That's the point of the game. If you can pull more c-bills or the possibility of a win, do it.

I don't support KDR kiddies that snipe the whole game, watch their team die because they won't participate, then insist on hiding and powering down to try and preserve their KDR. It does indeed tie up everyone's mechs until the match ends, the opposing team included.

However, if you have no weapons and power down until time runs out for a loss, or don't intend on trying to win the match for your team and are just trying to hide, you are essentially trolling. You are wasting every single player's time by forcing them to hunt you down. Saying you "feed off other player's anger" is the very definition of trolling.

I will never report an active player's position, but I do report DC positions. That's just being a decent human being, allowing the match to conclude. I think we all know this game has enough DCs.

You know, I really shake my head about those who look down their noses at "KDR protectors". Most people don't know what the intent of a player is and really need to stop judging others about it. If I play a Jennarc and the team dies and I'm left with zero damage done or caused and say forget it, you can hunt me down because my mech is useless thanks to the failure of the other 11, you've no right to say they're griefing or being a decent human being. If you were a decent human being... by this level of logic, you'd still be alive helping them as they devoted themselves to helping the rest of the team... successful or not.

This bothers you... then it's time to quit match and start a new one safe in the knowledge there is almost no chance that person will be in the next match.

Well, that is pretty vendictive and I don't approve. You need to manage those anger issues.

I'm not trying to stick up for the people who ask for the last guy on the team to die, but I do know the reason that some people ask for it:

Not everyone owns 50+ mechs. Some people own the default 4 mech bays and only one or two mechs. Holding up the game from going to the next is literally causing them to be unable to play the game.

That said, if someone is trying to AFK out to preserve what little K/D ratio they have, that's annoying and should be booed. If they are actively engaging a 12 v 1, that works and can often times bet quite entertaining.

I never said "It bothers me." I said simply what I support, and what I don't support.

Sometimes this game hands us horrible matchups that result in team deaths in 5 minutes. I'm sure every one of us has been befuddled by watching our team run out and die, leaving you the LMS. I do my best to play smart and win the match for my team following this. I have done this on a few occasions, and come close on others. Because there is always a small chance of victory being pulled out, this reaction is justified.

However, what is the justification of hiding and losing on purpose? Kill to Death ratio nets you nothing. Even the community cannot see it. There are no C-Bills, achievements, or GXP/XP to be gained from this. If there was, I would fully understand. But there simply isn't a reason to pad your KDR beyond logging into your profile and looking at it.

Most players are trying to train up XP on their mechs, so being denied access to their mechs makes this more difficult. This is the primary reason people become frustrated by players who hide.

This^. The majority of the player base doesn't have a lot of mechs to fall back on, and often times a critical engine is stuck in game because of a delaying player.

okay, then I apologize for using too stiff of terminology. My bad on that.

If the KDR nets nothing, then it is personal reasons and there's nothing more to be said about it. For some reason, they value theirs and that's it. Let em. There are a multitude of reasons why someone might go off, hide and power down from 'my kid's crying in the other room' to 'I really don't feel like giving that punk the satisfaction of playing to win after he narfed it all up and berated me for being smarter than him.'

The last man standing is either the luckiest/unluckiest or best pilot on your team. Let them play the game the way they want even if it is to force the other team to work for their living.

Actually, everyone has 12. If you don't have lots of mechs you bought, you have been using trial mechs, so this argument is moot.

Apparently the rest of the team's purpose in the match was to serve as camouflage for him to win with. He couldn't done it without them... being dead. But he still shouldn't have had to.

They can use a trial mech and earn some CBills while they wait. That's what they're there for.

PGI, via the mods, have already stated that hiding is a valid tactic if the player participated in the fight.

And PGI has also stated that because players can now reconnect, players ratting out the locations of disconnected mechs on their side is a reportable offense.

He isn't wasting your time, he is using his. When you hit launch you have now committed yourself to a 15 minute match. End of story. If you were not willing to sit there for 15 minutes, regardless of the outcome or not willing to hit the little disconnect button PGI gave you then you should not have hit the launch button.

That would be the Golf MARSHAL, and yes it is THEIR jobs to decide when someone is playing slow... not YOUR job. In the case of MWO the marshal is PGI and their support staff and they have stated before that as long as the mech has participated in the match they don't have an issue with them playing it out to the 15 minutes.

So again... deal with it and stop being a rude jerk, let the guy play his match. You had your chance and some mistake ended up with you dead, even if it wasn't your mistake(it's almost always the dead person's mistake) you are now dead and can spectate, stop trying to rush it just because you had a bad match, suck in general, or whatever.

Again... That isn't the guy who is still alive and actually playing's fault. You died, you get to wait. Incentive to do better next match maybe?

See people. When I die I don't sit there and fume about why I am not playing like some of you seem to by the comments I have seen in game and here. Instead I actively try to help the left over guys, even if it is a Spider with one leg and 1 laser trying to get that last shot on a wounded Stalker. Instead of being a jerk and ratting him out I'll look through his side windows and let him know if I see something coming and try and give him heads up on other things or maybe just a "Good Luck".

I never said a word about a person actually fighting. If you are the last one alive in an 11-1 and you are still fighting, it won't matter, you are going to be dead soon enough.

I dislike people that run away or are simply trying to stay alive till the bell rings. My comments have reflected the exact same. But I am a bad and a jerk, what do I know.

Your comments have not reflected the exact same.

"scrubby light"
"go suicide"

and such.

See... it doesn't matter if I am down to 11 mechs versus me. I am still alive and in my "scrubby light" I might be able to circle around and backshot a Direwolf that opposing team left behind while trying to chase me.... but first I have to run away. It might take me 5 of the remaining 7 to circle around and kill that one mech, but that 1 kill C-Bill and XP wise is more than worth 5 minutes of my time. You spent your time and died, it's now my time to stretch the enemy out and pick off the wounded.

Sure I won't make YOUR game any better(which isn't true you might get an assist and more salvage) but I'm not making it any worse either.

See there is this arbitrary time limit on every match. It is 15 minutes. PGI has determined that we all commit to 15 minutes. So I can play out my full 15 minutes and it is not rude because when you hit launch, you do so with the understanding the match might just take 15 minutes.
