I created a unit
I played with the rank system
I donated the minimum cbills
I disbanded the unit
I got nothing returned.
Might there be some other option adviseable? Yes.
Is this the case right now? No

The money is gone after you disband.
If you could get money back from the guild it would enable exploits like farming cadet bonuses.
Not if the system returns it to the people who donated, to the space buck cent. Not sure why this would be difficult. MMO's have been tracking contributions to guild banks since....guild banks.

1) Don't like it.
2) Don't trust your guild.
then don't put anything into it.

My guess is there will be safeguards against that, and support may be able to help.
I still think no refund is the best way to handle it. No scetchy questions about how to work the refunds (First in, Last out makes the most sense to me, but that's still not the most fair way).
My guess is that they will find ways to drain money on some regular basis (rearm/repair defenses, constant expansion, monthly fees, etc).

maybe so but that doesn't prevent it from happening, nor does it stop unscrupulous players from preying on new player sand getting them to donate large amounts of money just to watch them lose it.

As others have pointed out, every transaction into the Units funds is recorded by Member and amount.
- This can be seen by any who have the required clearance and/or Rank
If it's tracked then it's a rather simple item for PGI to also find.
- Now having the ability to 'return' any of these c-bills is another matter.
(they, PGI, have stated if there is concerns then don't deposit funds.)
- The required content that any of these funds would be going to is not yet present in the game.
- Unit tax's on members is also not required yet as there is nothing to spend them on.
The Founder of a Unit, whether the Commander or not, cannot simply close up shop unless every invited member has been removed.
- This leads to another question, can the founder of the unit simply remove all members? Or are the higher ranked and authorized members required to 'accept' the unit disbanding? Unilateral agreement?
- After all the hoops some have had to go through just forming a Unit this seems a bit absurd.
Sidenote:
If a Unit is formed and aligns with a specific Faction, after that unit has progressed high enough in that Faction and now wish's to change to a new Faction, for progression. Is the Unit required to, in any way, alter any aspect of their Unit?
- Rank structure or titles?
- Pilot placement in the verse?
- Possession of locations or equipment?
Being that the Pilots 'end game' is to ether work there way through all the Factions, or gain the highest Loyalty/position in a Faction. (best options and bonus's)

Ask Paul if he thinks you are making too much money.
I know he thinks people make too much, but the thing is, there is no economy in this game. His bias stems from the fact that an MC purchase for a mech is less attractive if people can earn it within a reasonable amount of time.
They didn't include other avenues for people to spend their space bucks. There could be dynamic elements like your drop team of engineers you need to train up for them to grant bonuses etc, but, all we have are arty strikes, cool shots and module. /yawn.

As I mentioned in previous posts, donations to the Unit are a one way transaction. If a unit disbands, the coffers go into limbo with the unit itself. You may have noticed that if you disband a unit, you cannot create a new unit with the same name. This is for back tracking units that wish to be reactivated. If a unit is reactivated, the coffers are restored along with the unit.
Flow:
Everyone in ABCD unit gets into a big fight and everyone leaves and the unit leader disbands the unit.
Coffers go away with the disbanded unit.
Everyone in ABCD goes and has a coffee and possibly some appetizers at a local pub.
Everyone in ABCD hugs each other and sings campfire songs in a drunken stupor.
Everyone in ABCD realizes that each other aren't as bad as they thought and think they should reform.
The unit leader or a previous leader figure requests that ABCD be restored.
Customer Service Reps restore the unit and provide the leader with an aspirin.
Unit is restored, unit coffer CBills still in tact.

but what happens when the coffers "go away", if they don't kiss and make
