I guess what I should have said is I play to win within the rules of the game. However, some people who complain agout 'legging' and headshots being dishonorable make me wary of saying I 'Play Fair'. It's a relative term. I will never glitch, run cheats, etc. But I will head and leg you to death, and pull every dirty trick I can come up with to win within the rules of the game (i.e., not the rules of those who cry foul because I am a better pilot).

And that's all one needs to really enjoy a game. Now I'm pretty sure that with this game there are going to be people that want others to "use a certain weapon" or not use a certain weapon because it's considered op..my thoughts are this. 'Whats op?' In Mechwarrior I've discovered something glorious. No weapon is over powered.

I voted for both, because, according to the euphemism, all's fair in war, and we are playing war. (With giant, stompy, pew pew robots) :)

I'd play fair. When my opponent is disarmed, i won't kill him. But using weak armor spots is fair too. In a real Mech fight, the enemy won't have any regrets firing at your weak spots.

I agree with most of the posters, it I can do something that's in the rules of the game then its all fair game. If I can go for the head then I will, if a teamate shreaded my opponents back armor and they turn their back to me, you'd better belive I'm going to go for it. If my opponent is disarmed of course I'll blow him up, its a deathmatch game, in real life I wouldn't but in the game their are a different set of rules.

Like many of you I chose both options, if you're not hacking or using bots and maybe abusing glitches then you are not cheating other then that then play to win. If you can outflank your opponent and and hit their rear, fine, if you can hit them in the head fine, and yeah I guess even legging, fine.

So if both sides use the same "underhanded" tactics such as legging, rear shots, head shots, and going for the arms, then does that mean the battle is fair?

Only fools in golden armor claim honor through fair tactics. My throne is made of bone and forged in blood, sanctified with the tears of the golden fools.

It would be interesting to see Clans that require their members to RP/combat by a code of rules. Especially if some of those Clans kicked the tails of other teams that didn't play by the rules

Well, as far as winning is making me more happy than losing, I'll prefer to win. And because of me prefering to win, I'll play to win, of course. Thats what competitive games are all about: maneuver yourself in a position to take out the most enemies with the least damage to your Mech/...

If the design allows me to win in only one special fashion, well, then it's poorly designed, but thats still not meaning to stop me from going in exactly that winning direction. Of course I would prefer multiple variants to win so I need more skill to find the right one for me. But in the end, if in a game what will leave me loser in every second game on avarage I figure out a tactic pushing this balance to say 55:45 in my favour, I would be pretty stupid if I didn'T do two things: 1) use it as long as it works and 2) think about improving / alternating it in case the rest of the players also figure out my winning "secret".

I regard legging, shooting in the back etc to be fair game tactics...

Its a war game after all :P

So eh... Play to win, I guess?

3rd party manipulation - bots, lag-nonsense, etc. obviously not ok.

Tactics - legging, ambushes, jumpshooting, firing huge swarms of LRMs from behind cover with a scout spotting for me, of course.

"Playing fair" as far as I'm concerned is deciding to /not/ take advantage of things which are available in the letter of the rules but aren't in the spirit of the game. Historically, things like dropping under the map, glitched map locations that allow you to shoot without being shot, knowingly using temporarily unbalanced weaponry (due to a buggy patch or whatnot). This also goes for things like ghosting on external comms (TS3/vent), messing with graphics settings and gamma so camouflage doesn't have any effectiveness, etc.

I voted both. I really love to win but I will only be so much of a ******* to do it. There is something about beating someone at a disadvantage. Or because my skill is just straight better. And I can appreciate when someone is better than me. However, I want to get better and beat them next time.

While playing I will do everything I can to win, exploit every tactic, and will do my best to get every edge. That said I want the starting environment to give me and my opponent a fair fight. At the end of the match I want my teams intelligence and skill compared to my opponents to be the determining factor of who wins.

For this I picked both options.

I don't think that the 2 options are mutually exclusive. Playing fair doesn't mean you can't also win.

Fight to claim your victory! This is war, not some kind of game!

Wait a minute...
