Mixed bag... targeting weak points, legs, head, ambushing enemy WHILE outnumbering them... all fair. it is war. That being said... accepting surrender or say a situation where your team still has 10 mechs and only one enemy left.. would be more my style to take him on one mech at a time.. he's pretty much toast but can go down fighting instead of just being executed.

If its not a bug or exploit then you play to win. If its a bug or exploit its cheating.

Always play to win. There is no such thing as a fair fight, someone is always going to either be more skilled or have better equipment. If you can take advantage of an opponents weakness then you should take it. Perhaps it will teach them a lesson and they will learn not to do so again.

What would you do? Personally I play to win. If I see a weak point, be it the legs, head, neck or back or somewhere already damage I would hammer it.

I guess I have to ask what you mean by play fair. Its a combat game the idea is to take out your foe, If a pilot is not targeting weak spots than they are a not a Mech pilot, if someone removes armor in an area you shoot that area, If the weapons are in the arms you take them off, If the Mech is to fast, has weak legs or you just want to limit & control thier ability to move. you take thier legs...winning or completing the mission IS the point after all. anyone who dosnt is going to be an easy kill & get thier wing killed too.

Isn't exploiting damage the whole idea behind missile boats like the Catapult? They soften up the target at range and then the faster mechs or those with close range weaponry go in for the kill. Thats not cheating, its sound military tactics.....and if you drive something with tiny unarmored legs and I can hit them......be prepared to ride your mech all the way to the ground.

I think the better Poll would be :

- Play to win fairly
- Cheat to win unfairly

Personally, I find that people who use glitches in a game (hidden wall/terrain spots, hacks, etc.) are the ban of having fun in a game. Since this is a community game though, and the servers are directly controlled by PGI, I seriously doubt anyone using a glitch will last very long once they are reported.

As far as 'legging' or weak points on certain chassis, that's not a big deal in my opinion. That type of strategy is will be available to everyone, meaning that everyone can take advantage of it in order to improve their chances. Also the reason it's implemented as a 'strategy' and not a 'cheat'.

The only thing out side of hacks that i don't like to do, is leggging someone, give me the chance for an ambush its on, shoot u in the back if i can get to it no probs fire from cover and all the like is fine. But i just dont feel right legging a mech even if its got twice my armour on the torrso ill still try to rip through that rather than shoot at the weak legs. Someone does it to me well thats life and i may return the favour if they keep it up...

And that's all one needs to really enjoy a game. Now I'm pretty sure that with this game there are going to be people that want others to "use a certain weapon" or not use a certain weapon because it's considered op..my thoughts are this. 'Whats op?' In Mechwarrior I've discovered something glorious. No weapon is over powered.

ya Ton for Ton, damage to heat, the best weapon in the game Canon is a Small Laser....it just sucks with crits
But ya it's all in the eye of the beholder, what i do to kill you may be unfair in your mind and what u do to kill me may be unfair in my mind it all depends on how the devs handle Cheaters.

Personally i say do what that one company is doing, throw all the cheaters in a closed server together, and they can cheat all they want and leave the rest of us alone

Is it considered cheating if I find a way to perform a Death from Above on you with my Atlas? The way I see it, the only way to "cheat" in a game like this is to use a mod to change the code in some way...

All the rest is just tactical decisions and strategies...that isnt cheating it is training...

I don't think this is the right question.
It should be:
Play to Win?
Play to the Spirit of the books?

That's why I think "Drop Tonnage" should be part of the XP factoring and Restrictions.

What kind of challenge is it if the lance drops with (2) Jenners (2) Cats and (8) Atlas?

I like my games to be immersive. Immersion = realism.
In reality, nobody would refuse to leg or take head shots because it's "unfair", except for maybe some honour code types like Clan or Kurita.

Me, I plan to make sure the other side dies, however.

Obviously this is within the confines of the game, and I do NOT like hacking or anything cheating.
But if it's legal, its fair.

This questions reminds of the guy in a Jenner running around shooting at the backs of heavier mechs. The heavies always say why are you hiding and using your speed to unfair advantage. We can't shoot you when you hide behind our backs, and i'ts really annoying that you are taking out our armor and critting our ammo bins. You need to stand in front of me and play fair so i can kill you! The Jenner laughs and says "I'm playing to WIN. Good Bye."

I remember playing some ladder matches in MW4mercs and legging was rather shunned upon. I don't really see it as much of a problem though, if you're giving me easy access to you legs I'm gonna try take the shot. As long as it's not using game glitches or hacking to gain advantage it's all fair in mechs and war.

Always play to win. If I'm going to use x amount of my time to play a game, I'm playing to win. However, I will give the option to a lone surviving mech to parley so they won't have to pay extra c-bills down the road .

Your not dead and your enemy is... that doesn't count as winning?
