Dead mechs don't get to preach morality to me.

To not play fair implies "TO CHEAT". Hitting an already damaged area on the MECH in my opinion is fair game.

Play to win.

Is the meaning of fair in a computer game not open to debate?

If 5 players target 1 player, is that fair? Not really. Is the commander going to call 4 of the players off and say "oi boys, play fair now ok, one on one and pick on mechs your own size not the smaller ones"

Hell no. I swear, you'll see me on the battlefield when your showing critical damage and I will be moving in to help finish you off. I'm a player who monitors all targets both friend and foe. I get a picture of the overall situation, decide my target based on it and priority goes to the weakest enemy mech.

Is it fair that I would switch too you, just because your already suffering?

No cheats, no exploiting. Hopefully it will come down to skill and tactics.

What would you do? Personally I play to win. If I see a weak point, be it the legs, head, neck or back or somewhere already damage I would hammer it.

You seem to be suggesting that not playing by space bushido arbitrary rules is not playing fair. Legging is a viable, and legal tactic. It's not playing unfairly despite what some people seem to think.

So many whine threads about pay to win, that is what I read first time reading this one :)

Play to win:within the rules of the game is the option I would pick. Exploits, hacks, and the like just ruin the game for everyone.

If your not playing to win, then why bother playing?

I say both. If you exploit a weakness, its playing to win. If you don't cheat then you are playing fair.

All's fair in love and war

And as a Mech Warrior, war is my trade, and I am very good at it.

It's almost as if the poll is asking, "Will you cheat or play fair?" I think people should both play to win and fairly at the same time. This does not mean whining about legging or deciding to not shoot at broken bits. It means playing to the spirit of the game and doing your best.

what the hell does it mean to play fair? you mean you'd purposely avoid hitting weakspots? that's ridiculous and stupid. that has nothing to do with fairness.

I just replied to your mail then this was the first post I read!

From the videos I'm struggling to see where exploits could possibly come about. I'm actually thinking we may have an exploit free mmo here.

I think as it's a fighting battle game, and if you lose you will, eventually, have to pay for repairs and ammo etc... I say win at any cost - that's point of war... Though I'm not that cut throat in real life because for most of us life isn't war... Not sure how the Clans will feel about that... :)

I voted both because there is no difference in "playing to win" and "playing fair." Playing fairly does not mean you aren't playing to win and trying to win doesn't mean you aren't doing it fairly. Anything that happens on the battlefield is fair, all opportunities are provided to everyone equally, and presumably if you are on the battlefield you are simultaneously trying to win.
