In response to the OP (Niko): I initially thought you were a cool guy. I enjoyed your posts in the Meme Thread. Your interactions with the community seemed pleasant from what I had seen. As I grew tired of the glacial development, lies, missed deadlines, and the failure to deliver on content of MWO I began to view other forum's opinions besides here. After visiting other forums I began to see the truth:
my initial views of you were wrong.
You created a new Code of Conduct that included allowing moderation based on third party websites.
You thought it was OK to moderate people on your game based on their criticism of said game on third party websites.
You thought it was OK to delete dissent and opposing opinions on Reddit.
These actions, in an ironic twist, ended up violating the Code of Conduct/Terms of Service for Reddit.
You regarded dissent, differing opinions, and negative views of the game or the company you work for to Harassment. Harassment is very different than having a negative view of you, your game, or your company and stating your opinion on it. This diminishes the meaning of these and undermines the real issues behind them. Granted, some people can take it too far. I do admit I’ve seen some people go beyond and possibly in to the realm of harassment. Although, as seen on third party websites, I’ve also seen respectful concern being expressed which was also equated to ‘Harassment’. Basically, what you ended up showing us was that you would use a term to allow yourself to silence the people that do not agree with your views. It’s as if I’m witnessing a case-study of the
Framing effect.
Now, here is where I present to you what really concerns me. Your behavior, including the company you work for as well as other members of that company, could be equated to Harassment as well. You have, under many circumstances, harassed your own clients. You’ve mocked them (although, without stating specific names) by either referencing to the actions of individuals that, upon investigation, was actually a reference to a specific person. You, and your company, have also been seen harassing its very own clients. Those that are “on an island” as you’ve been seen calling them. That was basically an offensive and derogatory term that was created to refer to people with differing views to your position at the time. The “Vocal Minority” is yet another derogatory term that was created. These are perfect examples of Harassment. You, your company, and its employees exhibited behavior that was, be it unintentionally or intentionally, upsetting and/or disturbing to a group of its clients. Although, this has backfired on you with most of the players that you’ve called “on an island” now embracing the term as a badge of honor.
To sum up my position in respect to your company’s Reddit problems, I will use the posting form most know me for;
