What keeps you coming back?

I have found a chassis I like, took 2 days to unlock all the efficiencies on all 3 mechs. the progression within a mech seems limited. Don't get me wrong, I'm very much enjoying playing, But I just curious, beyond just enjoyment, what is it that keeps you playing?

Best,

Riatt

It's the only mechwarrior game in town?

I've been invested in mechwarrior since MW2, and the Battletech Tesla 2 pods.

I love this universe, and the only competitive version of MW out there right now, is MWO.

I love mad scientisting in the mechlab. The unlocking of efficiencies is just a bonus for me. The whole pokemon "gotta catch 'em all" thing with mech aquisition is nice too, not just for the joy of owining mechs, but for the joy of finding those few mechs that you have a connection with, and play well in. I love taking under-performing mechs and fighting tooth and nail to be competitive.

I like seeing the increases in score that I know are coming from my skill improving. I love those matches where everything falls into place and you scythe through the enemy ranks, shearing off limbs, shooting crotches and faces, and causing death and confusion in enemy ranks. I love the matches where you do very little damage, but know that your actions caused a dramatic shift in the battle. I love those few matches where my friends and I drop together and manage to not completely suck in the group queue. I love deciding that you're all going to wolf pack in lights, and only attack DireWolves.

I love running into big names, and having rare opportunities to test yourself against them. Queue Kill Bill fight music. Hey, it's Proton! I'm going to shoot you in the face Proton! Oh crap, you're in a DireWolf, Proton! How the crap did you fit so much dakka in that DireWolf, Proton?

More than that though, I like honing my skills.

"I died to this, How can I avoid that next time?"
"This guy out-brawled me. Why? How can I kick his ass next time?"
"OMG, dual gauss is awesome. How can I make more people rage at me in chat?"

It used to be fun to learn all the basic combat styles.

Brawling, sniping, poptarting, etc. And learning to be effective with all weapons.

But that was before jump jets were killed as a policy of appeasement to satisfy the lowest common denominator. AKA -- the n00bs too unskilled to deal with jump snipers and too unknowledgeable to know how to make decent loadouts.

Things are more boring now. The game lost replay value.

But, on the bright side, clan mechs did add some depth and variety to things so maybe it does balance out.

I know the lore/tech/rules
Modular construction
Mech/robot combat
Sci fi weapon systems
Shooter gameplay with more tactics
Shooter gameplay with longer time to kill, modular mech destruction
Playing with a group
Keeping on top of new content in an evolving game

I do hear that the Heavy Gear alpha is doing well and that will offer a lot of the same, so... Not to mention Star Citizen, a whole new universe to become a lore/tech nerd. The potential for swapping a large number of ship parts to tune a ship just so has my brainmeats all aquiver.

The very fine people I met on Comstar who invited me to join their games and eventually their unit. Playing with great people is the best part.

And most especially, those same fine people who will talk PG rated when my son is playing with me.

The game feels good to play. Weapons are tight, sounds are great and the feeling you get when you hit the enemy with an entire laser duration is wonderful.

Its MechWarrior/BattleTech, Lore is All, and I enjoy playing MWO.

Also I bought twenty-eight 'Mechs since the big hero sale in July 2014, despite the fact I still had loads of 'Mechs in the low elites, so the slog of mastering them also keeps me playing...

I haven't come back yet since almost Closed Beta.

I won't be back until it is more than a slower Counterstrike with 'Mechs.

(not that Counterstrike is a bad game, but if I wanted to play something like Counterstrike, I would play Counterstrike)

Once the gameplay has evolved beyond it's current iteration, I'll come back.

The game is ok to play in between other activities. I don't dedicate as much time anymore as it can get repetitive. Hopefully, new content like maps and this fabled CW thingy will add to my enjoyment but as an arena like shooter it is ok as is if that was the design intention.

Other things to note, there are alot of bugs that seem to be present and it would be nice if they were addressed in a timely manner:

1. IFF (No Dorito) - It is highly annoying to not be able to tell friend from foe and it seems to me to happen every game with at least 1 mech not registering. I try to get a "head count" but sometimes I forget or am dropped in quickly just as the match starts.

2. Super slow down, walking in place, rubberbanding, etc. While I get more lag in general now (went from 70ish to 170ish with server move). There are times where it just is so laggy.

3. LRM issue with lock-on timing (red before actual lock-on).

4. Occasional inability to register with weapons (weapons fail to hit or pass right through people more noticeable with the ERPPC/PPC). Probably related to #2.

Short answer: I play for my unit and people I know.
Long answer: I don't think there's much else to play for anymore.

I like to Wub things, and make them go boom.

MWO does that pretty well.

Groups can also make a difference.

I'm a fan of mechs in general. And this is the closest thing to a good mech combat game I can find. Titanfall and Hawken just come off as FPS games first and foremost.

Yes, those 2 games feel more like an FPS than a mech game. The machines move too smoothly for my liking. I guess I prefer something more realistic with what we can do with todays technology.

Mech piloting has a very unique feeling to it. Having your arm blown off is pretty unique. The combat is fun. the customization gives it a level of replayability. CW (when it comes) will jumpstart the social stuff... hopefully :)

sometimes sales and events get me to play a bit more, cause i do take a short breaks cause it does get repetitive...

Building mechs, trying them out, saving up for other mechs to build them up and try them out. I got like 68 mechs and I've only mastered 3 of them. Still a long way to go.
