I'm celebrating because I got nice stuff. and the Devs are talking. So at the moment, I am enjoying it. Perhaps you have heard the saying, "enjoy the moment"?

Whether it lasts, IDK. Whether I will be spending more money, anytime soon, IDK. Will CW deliver? IDK.

But today, the last week things are pretty rosy. So I am enjoying it. Yesterday cannot be undone, and tomorrow never comes. But right now, for me, life is good.

What more reason do I need?

Are you mad? I NEED MORE MECHS, so i can not help but look to the future.

You mean be my usual salty, acerbic, self?
Yeah, but rather than knight, I prefer resuming my metronome policy of being equally loved and hated by everyone.
It was more entertaining keeping y'all guessing which way I'd come down on a topic.

I've never been fond of the white cape... I've always partial to the eggshell or white-sand one...

Everyone perceives things differently.
Some see the giving away of shinys and communication as a new start.
Some see it as damage control after monumental failures like the Reddit fiasco (btw where is Niko i miss him) and the obvious failure (8k in 8 days of funding) of support for the new venture.
The real truth we will see in the very near future.
Myself as a founder being given a few digital shinys isnt going to wipe the slate clean, only steady positive advancement will sway my opinion.

What some of the nay-sayers are failing to keep in mind is some of the excitement is not about that stuff is being given away, but WHAT is being given away. The CN9-AH? There's been a small movement to get that thing back in the game for some time now. They listened. The King Crab? There's been community demand for this thing for a while too. They listened. Clan reinforcement pack contains a popular heavy? And if you got both top tier clan packs you get the other 3050 Clan heavy as a free bonus?

This isn't just them giving stuff away, it's them giving the community things that have been asked for. This has overall been a good year for the game. Yeah, there's still things to complain about. Weapon and equipment balance is an ongoing labor. Though new maps are coming, we're going to need even more. And hit boxes on terrain for many existing maps could stand to be tightened up (I'm looking at you, HPG Manifold). For all the work that still needs to be done, this year has shown that MWO is finally on course (and keeping IGP away from the helm seems to be helping greatly).

To play devil's advocate here: The CN9-AH was already in the game, not much work for them to do. And the King Crab? Why shouldn't they use a popular model? You know that the Crab will be available for MC down the road, so they will make money with it? And the design is badly needed for the IS to field something against the Dire Wolf. And they use the Maddog to lure the players into buying both packs at top tier while there are not many other heavies available. And again, they would be dumb not to bring the popular mechs because they bring in money.
So you see, it's not hard to twist it from "listening to the community" to "making the logical choice to maximize profit".

I'm not saying they do this, but I'm still highly skeptical and want to see at least a shimmer of CW before I trust in their change of minds.

Edit: The fact alone that they now produce a new pack while all their resources (time and again they have told us that they can only do one big thing at a time because they have such a small staff) should go to new maps an CW makes me doubt their resolve, especially because CW is again "only 90 days away" and yet we have to see any real progress on it. If it really would be started in 90 days, we should have a prototype on the test servers already to pick at the countless flaws it will have without a doubt at the beginning.

We only have past experiences to base our current reality on, that's science.

I am hoping that the ship is changing course and am willing to try optimism instead of being pessimistic. But we have seen this before, maybe it will change this time. And Time will tell.

I don't normally quote entire posts but he nailed it.

Yeah nothing like Transverse being completely demolished and on a course for failure thanks to their misdeeds followed by Niko summoning countless angry founders with the reddit gaffe to remind PGI how much damage they have done to their own brand through past misdeeds.

Now they know they won't be getting any space money so suddenly its time to treat robot players like they matter again.

Oh? What's that? Its just in time to sell another grab deal?

Hmmm where have we seen this script before.

-CW in 90 days. Check. Notice we have seen no screenshots of these supposedly engineered aspects yet.
-Grab deal on the horizons.
-Promises in the air.
-Sudden open lines of communication and attempts at reconciliation.

Look, its possible that finally PGI realizes what a good thing they have with this IP and this community who has stuck with them DESPITE all their bs. Maybe they will finally start treating MWO and its players a lot better now. Anything is possible. But that they are buttering you saps up before another grab deal should not be surprising. The 1 year stuff is generous and the posts have been nice but we still aren't seeing real verifiable work being done on CW and there's no sign that map production has become faster so I find it strange that you lot are chortling as if some major new era has begun. I truly hope so but this victory lap thread is premature to say the least.

All we have so far are napkin plans and vague outlines and the promise that they have actually been working CW for real this time.

I'm sure some of you think I should thank you for funding the game but I also believe that people falling for this exact song and dance over and over is why PGI has never actually tried to do better as caretakers of the BT brand. Until the chickens came home to roost and their new game's crowd funding was stillborn they could continue to lie and cheat their way around doing hard work in favor of just producing mechs and selling MC while ignoring anything else that required more than spreadsheet variable tweaks.

QFT

THIS is what PGI now needs to overcome. This last announcement has played out like all the others. They're simply going to have to deliver. period.

Indeed, I may throw money at a hero locust when it comes as that is the cheapest hero mech at like 7 bucks and I am slightly crazy and all, but unless the flea comes because yeah im crazy I will mostly be just waiting, if only they announced a truly fast clan light.

But I am excited about these dropdeck/spawn attack/defend ideas that are being planned for CW.

As for titles I dont know, I am not quite a white or black knight so therefore if anyone with power is reading I request that my forum title be changed to Cheese Knight.

White Knight. Glad to see that the dedication to PGI is slowly paying off... and out! King Crab... I may have said I would rarely venture in to IS mechs. This will be a exception I think.

Here's the thing. Look back through post histories of "black knights", no matter how constructive you were, no matter how many points and facts you showed and made, you were labelled a black knight. I've literally been called a white knight, black knight, and entitled founder all in the same thread because I didn't agree with any of the cheerleaders in it, any of the haters in it, or any of the non-founders in it and when I gave an opinion on it that didn't "pick sides" I got labelled as all 3 by every group there.

Indeed.

I've been accused of being White Knight, Hater, Entitled Founder and all that in a single thread over a single response as well.

"Judge not, lest ye be judged."

So, I have openly and covertly been accused of being a White Knight for PGI. I agree with this accusation and never lost the faith. Now that the dead carcass of IGP has been thrown aside, I and many other White Nights have been vindicated! So far it has been proven that it was IGP holding MWO back. The floodgates have been opened!

FREEDOM!!!!!!!!

Thank you PGI!

While the change in attitude has been nice (but my guess is due to a reaction to the disaster that Transverse is facing.. I mean, they have probably understood that if they want to have a future they need to focus on MWO and clear their name).

Well, they have stated that "all the mechanics were not influenced by IGP".

The latter isn't something that sounds promising at all (and neither something I'd be proud of.. they could blame IGP but they didn't), so 3PV, Ghost Heat, Movement Archetypes, DHS nerf and all the subsequent nerfs that have been hitting this game since CB/OB come directly from PGI.

And this isn't looking good at all imho.. sure they are re-discussing ECM, which means that the "beloved thing" of Russ and Paul isn't so intouchable as it has been so far, but we still have to see to what extent.

Whatever, maybe one day, within a few years this will become a better game.. they are playing with high hopes, hopes that they have already shattered multiple times. There's no further chance imho.. and even so, I'll surely restrain myself to give them any further money.

Ultimately, I think they realize that they have to address the player outcry, which means, hopefully, we'll see better changes / behavior in the future.

We can only hope. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (for now) and money later... if this all results in a better game closer to what was promised and with less arbitrary decisions on balance and the focus of production.

Why are people so happy about new mechs? Jesus.

Same game modes, same maps, CW is still not fleshed out at all. I am going to receive all of the "Free" mechs aside from the ones requiring top end package purchases, but I'm not even going to bother to log in unless we get real changes and not more fake money grabs.
