Can we please lose this terrible mechanic? Don't care about the damage from arty - I made the mistake of staying in it, but a one-shot to the head from something that realistically requires very little skill to use is utterly bollocks. Headshot me with a weapon, well done to you sir, headshot me with arty and you're nothing but a lucky ******* who lucked out on a horrific mechanic.

It should probably have a damage reduction for cockpits. Personally though I think the bigger issue with both Strikes is that any mech can bring them. It should be something that only scout/strike-recon mechs can equip, since it can play into the role warfare aspect for both of those. There also should be some kind of warning when the smoke drops, like a voice announcement "Airstrike/Artillery Strike Detected" since it's very possible to not even see the flare.

The damage was reduced so that it was incapable of destroying an undamaged, fully armored head. Either you didn't get one-shotted or you under-armored your head.

The damage was reduced from 40 to 35. Still enough damage to headshot any mech even with an undamaged fully armored head.

I thought it was cut a little lower than that. Mea Culpa.

Overall, getting killed by an artillery headshot is pretty rare. It sucks, but so does getting headshot by dual Guass or AC20. Something about dogs and hydrants. Wouldn't be averse to the head section getting a quirk that reduces arty/air strike damage, but I don't see it as a big deal. A little situational awareness tends to fix the problem.

To date I have yet to die to a Arty head shot. And only died twice to Artillery in general. Arty is not OP. No more so that any weapon in the game.

It could use s few tweaks (variable time to splash, Slightly less accuracy finding smoke, stuff like this).

It really sucks when youre in a Dire Wolf and the first hit you take in the game in a arty headshot that kills you.

I can only agree... Then again, it was just as frustrating to pay $30-$50 for a pay-per-view, only for Mike Tyson to KO his opponent in the first minute of the match too.

  • Don't look conspicuous: it draws fire. This is why aircraft carriers are called bomb magnets.

  • Professionals are predictable, it's the amateurs that are dangerous.
  • The enemy only attacks on one of two occasions: When you're ready for them, and when you're not ready for them.
  • Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
  • If you can't remember, the claymore is pointed at you.
  • If your attack is going well, you have walked into an ambush.

I've been headshot in my Hunchback from an Artillery/Air strike, but then again, I run 8 armor in most mechs heads (minus the Catapult), so I can't say it isn't completely undeserved.

Wrong place, wrong time I suppose.

I couldn't agree more.
Those damned Arty shells are so terribly inconsiderate.

2 deaths by arty since its addition to the game neither by head shot... Our mileage varies. ;)

I think I've died from arty head shots twice... Maybe 3 times... Ever. Most of the time I encounter enemy arty its an opening salvo or an attempt to flush the team out of a good position. Doesn't get kills too often. (Though it's spectacular when it does.)

Yep. The power of Red Smoke to randomly remove you from the match at 2500m is....well, just plain bad.

I've gotten kills at max arty range on Alpine, well before anyone sane would have seen me, much less shot me. And yes, headshots.

They should simply reduce damage to 30 on direct hits (allowing a chance to live) and increase the area of effect (an extra shell or two/bomb), thereby making strikes more effective at area denial but no longer a "click to have a randomly random chance of a free kill, trolololol!".

Sounds like Artillery to me.

North Koreans had Artillery near the DMZ with a 12 Mile range. My Battalion was in a tent city... 6 miles South. Working as intended.

A Long Tom, the heaviest artillery weapon in the game universe deals -25- damage on a direct hit. Not 40. Not 35. 25 damage.

http://www.sarna.net...Artillery_Piece

Not "working as intended". Overkill.

That 25 damage in tabletop is equal to 50 in MWO.
