I will hide, shut down and do anything to get another kill or two.

But, the point is, you will "do anything to get another kill or two". No complaints here.

It's the ones that power down for no valid reason, other than to save a Stat that has no real meaning in a Team Based game.

NOW, if we had a SOLARIS mode with ranked standings, where K/D was all important, and on a Leaderboard, and such like, go right ahead. Power down to save your precious K/D. But we don't, so suck it up Mechwarriors. K/D DOESN'T MATTER.

Yes, we know, it's reportable. Everything is reportable by clicking the e-mail link. They've already said they are not going to do anything about it for all the same reasons already mentioned. Even if they are just doing it to cheez you off, your enjoyment doesn't trump theirs. Consider it psychological warfare, the fifth pillar of MWO.

Really? Then don't report stuff. If it's reportable and someone reports it then you can reasonably assume it'll get looked at. They guy above was talking about someone doing it to win; doing it to just save KDR is going to get looked at.

Make your own judgements. Think f9 tells you where he is via co-ordinates if you're spectating. Tell the enemy where he is if you think he's griefing.

If you're a serial griefer, eventually you'll get banned.

If he's a serial griefer, eventually he'll get banned.

Not sure why people care about KDR tbh, considering only they can see it, and it gets reset so often anyway.

The only time I've used that kind of shutdown was to preserve a draw when I had no weapons left and my only other friendly was disconnected against a lone, but still viable, Madcat. (It wasn't a D/C either; he lost connection right on the lip of the caldera, so he had certainly been participating.)

While the Madcat feasted on the D/C, I (having no weapons) ran and hid, so that the other team wouldn't win after all.

I completely agree Jonny Reb, if there is a chance you can win by powering down do it. But if you're just going to make everyone wait for 8 minutes so you can avoid the loss that is just rude.

I think we're saying the same thing though. :)

That is not rude. That is called "making the enemy earn the last kill".

I just don't understand the reasoning behind doing this other than griefing people. I understand if it's conquest but what good is a KDR if your W/L is crap and I understand if you're weaponless as long as once the rest of your team dies, go out and get killed. Just go die and if you're careful you might be able to get a kill or two....just don't understand it.

See above.

In spite of what people think, it's not about stats. See above as well.

Conquest, hiding so your team wins because you're ahead?

Valid tactic.

Assault/Skirmish, hiding to protect your KDR when you can still fight?

Not a valid tactic.

Conquest, hiding to protect your KDR when your team is behind?

Not a valid tactic.

According to PGI, it is a valid tactic. Your reasons listed are not the only ones for doing such a thing.

Did you know that running out of bounds does not count as a loss? If you see your team is getting steamrolled and you want your precious WLR to stay positive, you can hightail it out of the map. ;)

You won't get rewards for the match though.

Will never happen unless one does it multiple times.

Good question. On Skirmish it's a pretty cheap thing to do but in the last, what, year I've been playing Skirmish I've only had someone survive the whole match that way like 4 or 5 times and that's out of a good 1k skirmish matches.

On Assault/Conquest where the other team has other solutions it's still cheap but at least you're not sandbagging and have no potential to impact the match. I've had matches on Assault where we capped down to the final sliver then left a damaged guy at the enemy base and the rest of us spent 6 minutes hunting a guy who still had weapons and some armor left and still ran and hid. We killed him btw. He didn't even try to fight; he just ran like a frightened little girl. Some of us were nearly dead. He could have gotten a couple of kills, instead you could just hear him screaming and crying and flapping his hands in helpless, cowardly terror at his pretend mech getting shot in a game. I genuinely believe that guy kicked my opinion of humanity in general down a peg.

The issue is 'are you intentionally carrying less than your teammates did to save your KDR'.

So is it cool? No, not really. Would I report someone with no weapons who powered down? No, not sure it would be valid. The point is 'are you avoiding core gameplay', as in are you fighting to the end if at all possible.

I actually powered down tonight with my atlas with one laser left and cherry on both sides. Of coarse we were up 10-6 and my team said thats cool. Not the same but powering down when not usable is a valid/fair tactic.

Re read the quote; it's legit to win the match that way, not to troll both teams or protect your KDR.

Again, not what I'm talking about. Totally legit; all you being up front is doing is throwing out a kill. Besides, what if things go pear shaped and you can then run for a cap or something.

I'm talking about people who are still in fighting condition and power down because their team got rolled (generally while they did little/nothing) and then they run and power down to avoid getting killed.

Powering down for an ambush? Knock yourself out. Disarmed? A bit weenie when it's stretching the match out but whatever, if your team is winning it's no big deal.

If your team is losing and you run and power down to save your KDR though you're sandbagging your team. That can be reported. If they only ever see one report they probably won't care. They see you coming up that way often and you might get banned. You do it egregiously and you should expect to get in trouble.

I'm surprised that such a thing is a surprise to anyone else.

Why is it trolling after you engaged and lost all you weps to hide?

If you're the last person and the match is now just them trying to find where you hid while you hope to wait out a 15 minute timer? This isn't a fight at that point - it's just someone hiding and trying not to fight because they'll lose.

I really do not understand why, after it has been explicitly stated that:

"So if you run and hide without ever engaging, that is non-participation. If you fight to the best of your abilites and hide when there is no way for you to win anymore, that is perfectly fine."

that this topic continues on, and on, and on, ad infinitum.

It's not really against the rules. If someone does this repeatedly to the point where it starts griefing other players, we will investigate further of course. Otherwise, it's a perfectly sound strategy to shut down and hide if it'll net a win.

That's the quote from Reppu, emphasis mine.
