Noone in high elo uses LRMs constantly, they are simply that bad. Rarely you see ECM, AMS is virtualy non-existant and LRMs only occur in a week after new LRM-friendly Mech was introduced. If you meet a mad person who takes LRMs into high elo matches, you kill him. Nothing more, LRMs don't fight back, you can just hide or snipe from cover. And even if you decide to stand in the rain and get hammered, hey, its not like those LRMs will kill you under 30 seconds, just keep moving, keep shooting and there is no way the LRM boat will kill you.

That is the reason why they aren't used. Killing someone with LRMs takes a looooooong time. You are better off with a PPC or two. Remember, in battle you don't want to shoot at the enemy (exactly what LRMs offer), you want to kill the enemy - and for that task lurms are severely lacking performance. Plus, counters.

Now this begs an interesting question. What would have to happen to make LRMs worth taking in more significant numbers for high level competition?

Honestly, I'd love to hear what some Tier 1 team kinda guys or those who regularly compete on the competitive tourny circuit think.

What would it take to make LRMs 'must use' in competition? Please consider I'm ignoring obvious tourney restrictions but rather looking at game mechanics in MWO.

*shivers at the mention of "tournament restrictions"*
That always felt like, removal of tactics by forced mutual exclusion. Or "We find your use of game mechanics pesky and found a sour way around them". Unless of course it is a specialized tournament, advertised and played as such. Ive not slept and apparently entered peanut gallery mode.

With LRMS you can hit people with a lock with out a lock with a team mates lock almost every mech in the match usually has them you can lock very fast now with things like the command console. 1v1 lrms are not bad or on paper but when you get 10-20% of your armor blown off in one volley from 4-5 people that's the problem. not to mention tag narc and module bonuses.......

800ms projectile speed and all the missiles hit one component :P
Less than that and they would still be worse than most weapons.

I liked it because it's funny but sadly, it's mostly true. We must take into account that they do get benefit from indirect fire and guidance, which does have intrinsic and unique value unto itself. The question would be how much does that factor in?

I think ERLarge lasers and SRMs are out of control.. every game there is at least 4 SRM mechs and like 5 mechs with ERLLs...

Why the hell is 8 Launchers across 12 mechs a problem? I am fairly certain there are comparable amount of direct fire too..if not much more.

Clan tech is mostly to blame. An LRM10 for 2.5 tons...why wouldn't you take one or two in ANY build, if you have free missile slots?

Because a pair of AMS will remove 30; unless you boat, they are nearly useless.

Hey McGral funny how you and other LRM lovers like to imply that anyone who complains about the skillless LRMs are low ELO players, especially when you have no way of determining ELO. He may very well have a higher ELO than you!

Doubtful.

You people against LRMs can't seem to avoid them, and it's laughable when you complain about how OP they are, when they are one of the worst weapons in the game.

Pulse lasers are more effective! Against competent players, that is. Bads will be Bads, and Lurms hurt Bads a bit more than competent players.

Honestly?
Increasing their flight speed another 15ms, and upping to 1.2 damage a missile might do it in part.
Removing Betty's Incoming Missile warning would also help.

OP, what you should do is put "LRM are OP" in the search box and read.

Well, we can always request that we get Anti Laser/ballistic gear that can shoot these things out of the air like missiles. To boot, we need a warning and a 3.5 second lead time and a Angry Betty warning that lasers/ballistics are being fired at us. Also, you cannot fire the weapon unless you are locked on the target and they are visible to you. ECM should make it that you cannot fire lasers and ballistics on the target, unless you have BAP.

No need to change the cover mechanic.

Another problem is yes there are counters but try getting a pug to work together you might as well try getting herding cats. I also love it when people say just avoid them I play mostly assaults you try dodging a volley of lrms from 4+ mechs in a slow assault about all you can do is turn your torso and try to absorb it while your light mech with ECM is running off to God knows where and to top that off when I do play my ddc players even in pugs now have got wise and are blowing up my ecm nowadays. Don't get me started about trying to dodge them in my direwolf that thing is a walking turtle an ant might as well try dodging a water hose.

I can use logic like the op too....almost all mechs have medium lasers so they are op. We should nerf them more and they have no downsides. It is mlasgeddon omgwtf.

I have almost finished the lance ocomp and played solo this weekend and the counter to ecm is still cover, rush their face, direct fire, speed, radar dep, speed, teamwork.....if anything lrms are weak and players just need to be aggressive.

Before people say i am a lrm lover, I personally find them useful enough but do not use them often. They can be annoyi g but no more so than ppc guass spam or laser vomit.

Tell us, how long does it take the missiles to reach you?

How long does it take your laser, or any projectile weapon in the game, to reach them?

Methinks someone needs to learn to use proper cover, and tactics.

Well, that is only because of convergence, that you can just immediately kill players so easily.

The whole LRM/convergence/IW systems are all interconnected.
