Out of curiosity, is this anyone else's favorite Btech era? It has the IS finally reaching Omni tech as well. It has to great theaters with Operation Bulldog/Serpent, and they aren't *quite* as curb stomp as the early clan invasion was. Sure the Jags go down, but they go down swinging to the end like champs. Granted, I might be biased due to Eridani Light Horse being my favorite mercs. Anyone else have a favorite era that falls outside the usual 3025,3050, possibly 3067 really popular time periods? What makes it stick out as your favorite?

I'll give the Dark Age one thing. The first book had a man acting as a terrorist being yanked out of a Industrial Mech, by the military, wearing a clown outfit.

Clan Invasion 3049. Maybe it is the mainstream pick, but it is my favorite time period.

I'm a hardcore TRO:3025 era kind of MechWarrior.

I'll go as far as 3028 and the discovery of the Helm Memory Core, but that's about where I draw the line.

The cheese that is the Clans (and the less we speak about the Jihad and the Dark Ages the better) never happens in my BT Universe.

I do have to admit, the grittiness of the 3025 era was really changed with the clans.

Also, this is a picture of what Hanse Davion looked like.
.Posted Image
He was on loan from the Enterprise. People wonder why Davions did well for roughly thirty years. :P

*EDIT* This picture is 3052, but the point stands.

I think this might be a common separating line between Battletech TT fans and Mechwarrior video game fans.

My first experience with Battletech was MW2 and that game didn't focus on the Inner Sphere at all. It was all about the Clans (well Wolf vs Jade Falcon and later Ghost Bear in an expansion). I didn't even know the Inner Sphere existed till I played MW2: mercenaries.

Point is, if you became a fan because of the computer games, the Clans were always a part of the universe. Mechwarrior almost seems weird without it.

I could see TT players enjoying 3025 tech and disliking how the Clans threw everything out of wack.

It's an interesting dividing line for some in the community I think.

3025, simply because it was darker and had a certain charm to it. It wasn't just a generic science fiction where everything works- it was a universe in disrepair, giant war machines which hardly anyone fully understood and struggling space infrastructure.

3025....

Because reasons....

Mostly melee reasons, pure Btech madness before it got all power creep clans.

3025 - incomplete Information, struggling for funding, ressources - salvage is an urgent gameplay element - improvisation, preserve and work the best with what you have - Pilots decide Battles instead of electronics.

3025 era.

The tech is simple, and balanced.

The fighting is tough and fierce.

Battlemechs seem almost like suits of armor, all patched together. There's just a feeling of almost post apoc to the setting.

It just felt... good. Simple, but tough.
