Except the variant with the LBX10.

Which is the Clanbuster variant.

As much I appreciate you pixel art, Alistair, you probably played too much MW4 for your own good.

List of Black Knight variants per date.

Description of the Clanbuster: (from Sarna)

Quote

BL-9-KNT
One of the so-called "Clanbuster" refits developed by ComStar in the lead-up to the Battle of Tukayyid, this variant has been equipped with an Vlar 300 XL Engine, allowing it to mount an upgraded and heavier weapons load. The PPC was upgraded to an Magna Sunspot ER PPC, the medium lasers switched to Aberdovey Medium Pulse Lasers, a Aberdovey Large Pulse Laser added to the center torso, and both the small laser and Beagle Active Probe were removed. To handle the heavier heat load, the heat sinks were upgraded to double strength versions. In addition, for close-in work, the Black Knight carries long-sword shaped 5-ton Hatchet in its left hand, allowing it to make devastating physical attacks

The Black Knight KNT is from 3052, 3 years in the future. And it has hatchet, a weapon we don't know if it will be ever added to the game. And, like all other previous variants, it is energy-only.

  • Grasshopper (4 possible variants: GHR-4R, GHR-5H, GHR-5N, GHR-5J). Pros: known, stylish mechs, not many reasonable options left. Cons: uniform variants, slower Quickdraws.
  • Black Knight (3 possible variants: BL-6-KNT, BL-7-KNT, BL7-KNT-L) Pros: powerful mech with lots of fans; can look extremely beautiful. Cons: variants originally identical in hardpoints. Discussion about the BK here.

Black Knight has the potential of being a Clan buster. Even if the variant that ComStar used is 2 years into the future, we can basically create a similar loadout in mechlab. While the JJ are nice on the Grasshopper, the nerfing to the JJ and PPC/ERPPC make it not as viable as it could have been if it were released in place of the Quickdraw. I'd rather have a mech that can at least blow off an arm or side torso in one salvo if it turns a corner and runs into a face to face with a Clanner.

Black Knight. It shouldn't even be a question in this meta.

I hate the idea of an energy boat as the mech for the most premium tonnage in the game, and jjs if given a 2x thrust would work nicely with a heavy. However, since I don't care for either (why are these my choices???) my vote is more against the black knight than for anything.

75 is supposed to be the most competitive weight, and while we neeeeeeed something better than the Orion, this would just seem like settling for something. Unless it had some hitbox magic.

Thanks! :)

In regards to the LBX10, we were discussing the Hussar, not the Black Knight.

And yeah, the Battle of Tukayyid was in 3052, but... well, it feels like we've been in 3050 for 2 years now, if you know what I mean! :D

Grasshopper by far.

A fast 70 ton jumping mech with a good mix of missile and energy hardpoints, can zombie AND carry ECM on one variant. Perfect IS compliment to the Hellbringer with better variants and look.

I chose the Black Knight because it is first an awesome mech and second super iconic in the fluff. Also the Guillotine is not on the list which leaves me to believe that it is already in the works and could be coming out soon. In my mind the Guillotine is better than the Grasshopper because it is so very similar down to the tonnage, JJ's and load out with the exception for the fact that the Guillotine has the missiles in it's chest which means bigger/more launchers. So the Grasshopper seems redundant to me.

Here is a follow up poll for Heavy Battlemechs - I think I know which one is going to run away with this one. Keep in mind the Grasshopper has JJ's and more varied load outs.

Why not both?

I like the Black Knight's weapons more than the Grasshopper's. I like the Grasshopper's movement curve more than the Black Knight's. I am 50/50 on this one.

Seriously, pick Grasshopper. Go look at what kind of Black Knight we can have in this time period...it is not what you remember...it does not sound like a good or fun mech! :/

Yeah, in this, I'd rather have a Guillotine than a Grasshopper, and I'd be 50/50 between a Flashman and a Black Knight, and would take the Hammerhand over both, (I know we're down a variant on the Flashman or Hammerhands.)

We DO need a new 75ton IS mech, that's for sure, something with a specialised loadout, to counterbalance the Orion's jack-of-all-trades weapons fit.
We also, to a lesser extent, need a 70ton IS as well, and would pick a highly mobile platform to offset the slower Cataphract.

Sadly, i think that for variety of chassis, the best options for the 70 and 75t are the "unseen" Warhammer and Marauder. I would even take the Reseen art for these at this point, just to have them in game, adding their varied loadouts to the game. I have faith that Alex would do as good with the reseen art, as Shimmering Sword did with his hybrid unseen/reseen style seen on the NGNG website banners.

Well at 65t, there's the Jagermech, but at 75tons there's the Hammerhands, and yes please.

I am not sure if I am correct but(in battletech lore) the black knight was a battlemech pieced together from scrap mechs so it should be a one of a kind. I choose grasshopper.

Go to Picture Eleven.

That is a pretty awesome looking grasshopper. If it looked that cool I would be all for it.

If you guys are seriously considering the BK, (and I'm really surprised the Guillotine or Lancelot isn't up there as well as they are also available) then of course my vote is going to be BK first because I really want to see what you guys do with that homogeneous laser boat to make 3 different variants, and whether or not you include the Clanbuster variant ahead of time.

Plus, you guys are including the KC. Why not add in the other fan-favorite Clanbuster mech?

Edit: If I could vote both, I would. But I can't, so I had to choose.
