Anyone know if Punkbuster will be used or some other anti-cheating programs. Not that they work completely but something is better then nothing.

Not a fan of Punkbuster itself. Number of times I would be booted from a game for no reason.

Something is better than nothing, but Punkbuster has been more of a headache than I'd like. (Losing Key Packets 9005 for example?)

punkbuster is by far the worst anti cheat program on the market that wrongfully punishes more innocent players than it does cheaters for stupid reasons, and when asking to remove the bans they impose on your cd keys they basicly tell you tough luck shouldnt have cheated i for one think that there should be no software for anti cheating period instead being watched by mods to determine if cheating is being done

Was it Rockstar games that instead dumped 'cheaters' to their own dedicated servers? I thought that was brilliant. ;)

I really hope it gets coded in a way that doesn't allow for most, if not all, cheats.

IE doing as much as possible on the server side so that clients have a hard time sending fake data back/cheating.

well I must admit Punkbuster is a Really big pain very annoying and does cause lag.

I would like to see something being used or a way to report a player who is ermm possibly cheating.

as long as its not Punkbuster or steam version of anti cheating system.

They have said awhile ago that they will have some type of anti cheat. They however did not go into great detail because if you tell people what your doing for anti cheating, they will just adjust and cheat around it.

As for having admins watch. Look, this game is primarily going to be played vie a match maker. At which you'd not have mods that can just fly around and watch players. And if you expect companies to pay people to watch every game that a very expensive solution. Another thing is, the game is much slower paced then others. So if someone is using a speed hack, it's become very apparent. However things like aim bots would also be a little useless.

Yeah. Obviously some anti-cheat system would be nice to have in place, but if it's going to be a problem child I'd question it's worth.

Oh god, please no punkbuster.
That has to be one of the worst pieces of software ever written.
Beyond horrible customer service, urgent bugs takes months to get fixed, random kicks from gameservers, random bans for people because their code fails, plain stupid errors that happens for no reason.

If punkbuster is going to be used I'm going to ask paypal for a refund of my founders package. Seriously NOT going to play another game using that crap.

the game is going to run through PGI's data centers, so I don't think it'd be to hard to add a /report function to the game. Get enough /report tags filed against you, and a docket with info datamined from the server logs will pop up on someone's computer.

A quick review of the data, maybe a logged recording of a sample match with the most /reports filed, and a human can make a judgement call from there.

i never said watch every game... i meant they would perform the services any moderator team would join random games and participate openly and when certain players are noticed to be causing trouble observe them and take action if necessary

I wouldn't worry unlike a game like BF3 the devs will depend on ppl enjoying the game and cheating will defiantly drop premium subscription rate. Its not hard to find cheaters by looking at stats in the game. The biggest prevention will be guilds, if you are in a fight between two well known guilds then the chance of someone cheating are pretty small

Punkbuster, game guard, and hackshield are completely worthless.
when these programs are patched within 1 hour a hack is released for sale to counter it and around the revolving door we go.

VAC is great, but only when used in junction with active administrators. For TF2 and Counter-Strike, it's all good, but in an admin-less game like Modern Warfare, it's just not good enough on it's own.

I play on "Protected by Punkbuster" servers all the time in BF3 that _clearly_ have cheaters. So yeah, it's absolutely silly to even consider using that technology.

I don't understand the need to cheat on a game such as this to begin with. I can understand in some campaign mode maybe but in any online based game it is pointless. Eventually one of two things will happen. Either you get kick or ban from the game or your own teammates put a few rounds into as you try to act cool. From the general feel of the community so far, cheating is not going to be a problem. But as the game gets well known, who knows. I rather alpha strike a cheater out of his 'mech and keep his C-Bills then try to deal with some of the anti-cheat programs that are out there.

Well I'm thinking there most likely will be no cheating for MWO. But after playing many online games like Unreal, CoD, BF, cheaters are always around so I was thinkling as some point the cheaters will come.

While I think this game will present less opportunity to cheat without being caught.....the sad truth is....some sort of hack will be created, it's only a matter of time. Such is the internet. As such, the MWO team will need to have something set up to monitor and deal with hackers, that much is a given, but as stated before Punkbuster is awful. I am glad it's not my job to deal with these cheaters.....I'll just lament the first speed hack when it comes out.
