...there are more drawbacks then just that, which I'm sure you are more than aware of. I still don't think it is worth it, or provides someone with any significant advantage.

There are no drawbacks actually - you come up to the ridge, switch into 3PV, peek over the ridge, switch back into 1PV, keep moving. The opposing team sees the beacon, but they don't have LOS, so they can't shoot you. Air strike / arty delay prevents it from being effective against a moving target (unless it's a Dire Wolf). Beacon disappears as soon as you switch back to 1PV, so enemies have no idea which way you are going to go. So, all the opposing team knows is that someone was behind the ridge a few seconds ago. They don't know if that mech was alone, hey don't know if it's still there, they couldn't do any damage to it. What's the drawback?

You've given away your position, you can't aim, you still don't get any useful radar information to your team, you lose situational awareness all just for a brief peek to see where the enemy is, which as soon as you switch back to 1pv, could very well change in a few seconds. Sure you can keep switching back and forth, but that also takes a second or two in which time you are even more vulnerable. Hill peeking really doesn't help you out much at all if you don't do it long enough.

Damn I thought this was a thread necro.

Seriously there's much bigger fish to fry than 3PV, lets stay focused on things that matter: Crappy jump jets, Ghost Heat, weapons balancing, mech sizes, and you know everything else that's actually hurting the game.

As I've said, it's not a big deal - enemies can't shoot me (no LOS) and knowing that there was a scout behind that ridge 2 seconds ago doesn't give them any advantages.

you can't aim,

I am behind a ridge - I don't have anything to aim at anyway.

Sure I do - I can look at minimap prior to switching into 3PV, so I know what grid I will be looking at and I can communicate that information to the team.

True, but as a scout, my job is to find the opposing team (i.e. check the other side of the ridge in this particular case). Other changes in tactical situation can be dealt with by the rest of the team for a few seconds.

You don't switch back and forth while parked in the same spot. You peek over a ridge / around a corner, then move to a different location.

There certainly is, but fix for 3PV is extremely simple - just disable it in public matches (keep it available in private matches). While other things you've mentioned are definitely important, this one can be fixed in literally a few minutes.

They did it to help new player retention. I would just love to see if it helped. No anger here for 3rd. It's not like MW4 where you can fight in it.
