People have no idea how good the Huginn is. It's insane. It has better DPS than almost any light or medium mech, plus almost constant screenshake from the SRMs. If you catch someone off guard, you'll have crippled them before they know what's up.

Its only weakness, beyond its crunchy Raven legs, is that it doesn't really compete very well against the Ember or JR7-F. It's more effective against mediums, heavies and assaults, but it's much, much worse against other light mechs.

Just goes to show the HUGE balance shift because of a couple of quirks. I used to fear the damn Huginn, now I have not seen one in ages.

Funny that I was comparing it to the JR7-F and Ember too.

And while we're necro-ing this post, I ran my Ember not too long ago, because I remembered how fun it was. Couldn't do anything in it. Was kind of sad, but on with the SOTA, I 'spose. Just too bad I paid real money for it.

I don´t even think its thread necromancy...the cards have been mixed again and the turnout is quite interesting:

-improved hitreg in general=> bad for the whole lot, especially bad for the Huginn and its too large profile and hitboxes
-improved Jenner hitboxes=> good for the Oxide
-reduced SRM-spread=> good for the Huginn, even better for the Oxide with more hardpoints
-nerfed MGs => bad for the Ember and the Huginn
-quirk changes => Can´t say much about them but I do know the Huginn lost ALL MG quiks, the Ember has exactly one quirk left and the Oxide has gotten a)the largest number of quirks in Jenner country and is b ) the only Jenner with structure quirks...BIG ones

The end result: Huginn and Ember have become rare sights, Oxides on the other side I see more now then in the past 3 years combined.
I have excluded the Lcoust here because its a fun mech, but so far off any competitive mindset that a comparison does not make much sense (but personally I LOVE Locusts).

edit: spelling

In the spirit of the necro (pardon the pun), if the Huggin got its pre nerf srm4 cool down back, would the Oxide still be better? I for one think it would. Thoughts?

Un-nerf the Huggin!

And while your at it give the locust 3V its monster energy range quirk back...cmon! it a locust for cripes sake.

Got a Huginn last weekend because... well, I always wanted one.

Super fun mech. A bit squishy and definitly not as hard hitting as a Oxide. But the JJs are real nice and the speed is good.

Love the rapid fire SRM but the MGs are just meh.

If I were to rate the current back breaker mechs, I would go..... Oxide > Huginn > Ember > PB/Locust.

Is the Huginn worth dusting off and taking back out again?

Yes. It's not as over-the-top broken as it was during its "SRM Machine Gun" phase, but it's still a potent giant-killer. Other 'mechs may out-perform it overall, particularly in Light on Light dueling, but the Huginn should still be playable. Just bear in mind that if you picked it up during its Overquirked Monstrosity days, you were probably spoiled by it. =)

It's one of my goto lights for scout missions. Works much better when you don't have to pack ammo for twelve targets...

As the meta turns...

Oxide > FS9-A = Wolfhound >> Huggin > Ember = Locust >> TDK >>> Anasasi

Mmm in 1v1s though the laser vomit locusts are a dominating hard counter to the oxide. Especially the 3M. The speed and agility are such that you can latch on to their tail and they CAN'T turn with you to return fire.

You are all soooo underestimating Locusts... But that's good enough for me and my Locusts :)
