At least in this game the unlocks make sense. Your pilot is getting experience as a pilot and the unlocks are designed to show that (again, showing the games backing in TT rules). As for the exp in the mechs, I believe it's just your pilot gaining more experience with the specific mech, so again, the unlocks make sense and give the players something to work for.


As for the people that think a hunchback vs. atlas is an uneven fight? Of course it is, if all variables are equal (unless the hunchback outmaneuvers the atlas for an AC20 or two to the back armor). However, the hunchback is only 50tons to the atlas' 100. With limited drop weights I'd see that fight ending up as two hunchbacks vs. atlas... and anyone that would want to pilot that atlas is quite cocky.

I've not seen anything that says there will be equal drop weights in matches, but I do hope there's some sort of size balancing implemented.

If you CAN start with an Atlas, Imagine the repair bills you would have at the end of each fight! That's why ppl should buy at least 1 light mech to grind cash to pay for the big ride.

I thought we would start out with free version of the founders mechs, then work our way from there, in what ever direction we pleased.

C'mon, Atlas beats Hunch on everything except speed. The hunch cannot outrange the atlas. The hunch cannot go toe-to-toe with the atlas. The hunch cannot hide from the atlas. The hunch can only run. Atlas doesn't even need a fair fight. Put the hunch in +2 heavy forest and the atlas will still win. I just don't see what you could do here. The atlas isn't just a bigger mech, its twice the size of a hunch.

At E3, hunchback players were going toe to toe with Atlus players. Size does not always = win. Speed plays a huge part.

All the hunchback has to do is come up from behind. It's not like the atlas will know where the hunchback is from far away (as long as the hunchback is careful with line of sight). Even better would be the trebuchet against the atlas.

If everything is balanced then why would the lights win over the assaults? Just a little bit of a logic fail there, mate. The deciding factor is the pilot's skill which can't really be quantified.

They have radar in 3050.

Size doesn't always mean win but we're not talking about a marginal difference here. The Atlas has twice the tonnage of the Hunch. If this was TT, we wouldn't even be talking about it because it would be like arguing that water is infact wet.

You do realize this is being run in line-of-sight? Mechs only show up when someone on your team see's them.

And no kidding 1v1 the atlas has an advantage. However, one ac20 to your back can nearly cripple you, two would finish you off. Have you seen how slow you move?

the biggest potential saving grace that the Atlas has, is its twin rear ML's. If the pilot flips those forwards I give it 50/50 on an Atlas/Hunchback fight, the HBK can take the damage from the Atlas for a round or two, enough for it to get behind it. The Atlas rear torso cannot and will not stop the AC-20 from the HBK, and if that big crit sink of an AC-20 goes out the infighting damage potential goes strait to the Hunch with no issue, if it gets two shots off from behind the Atlas, the Atlas will be having a really, really bad day.

After reading your edit I feel like you were a pilot that didn't worry about mech placement nearly as much as hit modifiers in TT. Hitting someone in their rear armor is a juicy thing to do, assault mechs are no different (although, probably more so with how cumbersome they are).

If they don't have radar in MWO that is news to me. there are a few situations where the atlas would be at a huge disadvantage, having the hunch behind him is one of those. But one does not simply sneak one battlemech behind another. Even after you got the hunch behind the atlas, you still better get a lucky shot with that AC20 because you won't get two.

The atlus can't instantly turn and that hunch is not going to just stand there waiting for the atlus to turn. That Hunch is going to be hugging the back of that atlus.

Generally, yeah I was that pilot but I didn't ignore positioning all together. My philosophy in TT was to hit whenever you could and hit often, slow and steady wins the race.
