After the mess that is visual customization of the Catapult and now the Cent's gun arm, I hope they never touch the Awesome.

The Awesome is awesome looking right now and I couldn't stand seeing an AWS with PPC barrels as tiny as the Catapult's.

No, a group of 8th grade Centurions mugged a group of 5th grade Hunchbacks and took their humps.....

Its why we have 6ML and LRM equipped Hunchbacks.......

PGI is confusing things. What they really mean is cooldown rate, not cooldown. +57% cooldown rate means that the LBX on this Cent will fire at:

2.5 sec / (1 + 0.57) = 1.59 sec.

This was clarified via twitter when someone asked Russ if +100% cooldown means that the weapon fires twice as fast and Russ said yes. 2.5 sec / (1 + 1.00) = 1.25 sec or twice as fast.

Centurion always looked good in the mechlab, but anyone who tried to use ballistics quickly found himself running around with only 2xML. I remember when it was introduced back in the closed beta. After a couple of days everyone stripped the gun arm and mounted SRMs instead.

As a competitive player I say: make the ballistic arm as tiny as possible. You won't be able to use those quirks with your gun arm missing...

Yeah, glad to see you point that out. When people wrote 2.5*(1-0.57)=1.075, I was like; "So 100% give you a 0 second reload time eh?"

However, 1.25 is still a crazy fast reload time for the LBX.

Definitely. The LBX buff is cool, but I don't see how any CN9 variant ment for brawling could be competitive with a big gun in the right arm?
I run my -D with an XL360, 2*MG+2*SRM6A+2*MLAS, because more than machine guns in that arm is just a waste of tones 5 min into the game.

no AC on the Centurion?
I should add -that the former "Zombie" Status and the fast loose of the arms was a problem with the hitboxes.
I hardly went down in a Centurion with a missing right arm (the left maybe gone)
Have more problems at the slower rated AL and A Centurion. The YLW is a sweet dream - and the AH will become a dream again

ok considering the "face" mod - the dream could become a nightmare - couldn't we keep the old Centurion with rocket flaps and the big bore cannon - rather than the CN9-AL weapon canister?

But i would never call me competive - you can't have style and be competive - imho its more important to have style. Even run Mechs in Titanium White - instead of camo

Really?

Seems an awfully sweeping statement to a guy who spent all of Closed Beta in a CN9-AH or a YLW. And most of Open Beta in a YLW or CN9-D. All of which had heavy ballistics in the RA.

Maybe if more people REALLY knew how to twist and time shots, they would keep that arm longer?

Always loved Splat-Zombie CN9s. Use my AC20, XL Engine and MPL to pop a leg or their LT while they spread missiles all over my mech. Then while they are limping and impotently going "pew pew" finish them off, or leave them for the rest of the team while I find another victim.

I appreciate the effort and resources that go into these 'mech retrofits.

The loyalty skin especially looks excellent.

As for the retrofit - I'm afraid I'm among the ranks of those who find this unappealing - and not just for a small AC/20 barrel. A great deal of MWO's appeal is visual; the design and artwork of the game's Battlemechs are one of its strongest selling points.

Thus far, 'mechs which have undergone this treatment have always lost visual appeal. Some have lost quite a lot (the Catapult) and really need to be revisited. It seems to me that the retrofits are not being delivered to the standards of art design and appeal that the original designs were delivered with. This is a much less appealing Centurion than the first model.

Granted, making the weapons modular is a design challenge, and it takes time and resources to refit these assets. However, we've seen with the Clans that it is possible to be modular and appealing at the same time. I'd very much like to see that standard of art direction applied to the retrofits - even if it takes more time.

If that isn't possible due to resource limitations, I'd like to see the original geometry made available as a selectable option. I'd much rather drive a big-barreled K2 or small-box Cat or missile door Cent than he new retrofitted version.

Ideally, the old geometry (and new options) could be made available as store purchases to allow us to customize the looks of our 'mechs even further - but I realize that option lies much farther in the future.
