When I started playing, I wished I could have bought a Founder's pack.

I happily bought a Stormlord tier of Phoenix (Shadowhawk), then bought the reinforcement pack because I like mediums, then upgraded to Overlord (Battlemaster) for teh lulz.

Clan Wave 1 took me by surprise because I wasn't expecting another so soon. I held off until they said what we would actually be buying, then reluctantly bought four mechs -- three in a package and one a la carte.

It didn't take long for Wave 2 to show up, which also surprised me but then I realized it shouldn't have. And I'm just... it isn't even the money, even though the prices are outrageous. It's really that I'm just tired of it.

These things would be something to celebrate getting the chance to buy once in a long while (say, once a year), but when they are in constant or near-constant rotation, they aren't special anymore. They just seem like high-pressure sales.

I can see where it would feel that way.

I've only been playing since Jan 2014... so i missed the phoenix pack(s), and have only experienced Clan 1 & 2 (purchased both) which were about...7 months apart?

3 within a year is a little too much. 2 per year may be a happy medium for most. But i agree with you that 1 per year would make it seem more like a welcome event... rather than another greasy sale.

Twice a year seems okay to me. I'm not sure I can afford a quarterly mech pack release.

It is for me because I have bought every pack that has come out thus far and though I may get the next pack (because pokemon), I can't keep this up.... I like the shinies, but one a quarter or 1/3 or 1/2 is more likely to get my moolah. And when I think about it, I think these have been quarterly or close enough and I can't keep up much longer.

I want to buy the packs to support PGI, but I am running out of money (or so the wife says).

Does it really solve MWO'S problems by buying fancy new mechs you have to grind like a mad beaver for ever to be competitive or play the same lame ass 12v12 free for all matches day after day?

I say playing these types of F2PAY or F2Play MMO type games borders on being insane. It was much different playing true PC MechWarrior where it was like playing on a bowling or baseball team in leagues a few times a week for fun and comrade with family and friends.

The community has been asking about a Clan wave 2 since before wave 1 was dropped.

Then, with all the loyalty rewards, IS faithful players wanted a chance to get the gift King Crab without buying Clan mechs that they didn't want, so Russ started a thread asking about it, and an overwhelming majority wanted another IS mech pack. So that is where we are today...

If you look at it from PGIs standpoint, people are asking to spend money on these packs, so they please many members of the community AND make money off of it, so it is perfectly understandable in my opinion.

I enjoy them even if I don't buy them. I want the game to make money. I am an IS loyalist so I can't wait for the next one.

and IMO, only for something really cool. Clan Wave 1, Founders, and Phoenix could all be said ot ave had some special feel to them. Wave 2, Wave 3, IS REsponse Pack, etc?

Meh.

Would prefer to have waited for a Clan Buster Pack. Or something that marks something significant. That said, can't sell what they don't offer, can they?

They shouldn't be super special; they just allow people to access content without grinding for it. Take a look at the store bundles now - they are effectively ala carte mech packs for mechs that are already in the game.

Different strokes for different folks. A lot of gamers are collectors who are used to shelling out big money for limited edition toys, collectibles, special edition blurays and whatever else. They don't get tired of new stuff being pumped out continuously, they get really excited.

They're the type of people who do 1 hour YouTube videos with a review of the latest Darth Vader figurine by Sideshow collectibles, where they talk about the details and the paintjob and the pose and the packaging.

God Bless them.

I don't disagree, and because of the loyalty reward, I actually think it would be pretty lame of them to not release an IS pack.

It's just that this other side is out there, too, and it's not something you can see in the sales reports. So I hope they keep it in mind, keep it in balance, and find some way to sell what people want to buy without simultaneously making other players groan. I don't envy them the task.

It's all about opportunity to buy. More packages gives more people the opportunity, and more variety gives more people the chance to get something they actually want.

If you can't or won't get any specific pack, then just hold out for the c-bill release. Like any f2p game, it's a trade-off of money for time.

MWO fatigue. Cannot keep playing this game anymore, much less buy more. I've purchased almost all the mechs since Phoenix (missed Founders, but registered way back in 2011). Too much inconsistency. I'll be back after CW is released and hopefully some stability returns to the gameplay. Cannot be bothered to continually revise my mechs to the latest round of nerfs, to play with sub 50 pings and suffer tremendous lag and rubberbanding, Plus the game play is just stale.

I definitely see what you are saying. Many in the community get very upset when there are items for sale (Gold Mechs) that are very expensive, and those are the people that will get alienated by Mech packs. The reality is, some other people want to spend all that money on it, and it only helps the game. Someone buying a gold Mech for instance does not hurt someone who doesn't. I would not spend an extra 260 dollars to get a gold skin on a Mech, I just don't have enough money to make that worth it. Some do though, and it does not bother me at all that they want to spend their money to contribute to the game.. We are all free to not buy the packs if we don't want to, so its not like we are forced to spend money.

Anyway sorry if that kind of went on a gold Mech tangent, I think the concept is the same, and that is that folks that are not interested in spending a chunk of money on a bunch of Mechs take it as a slap in the face/money grab/etc, and I do not feel that is warranted.

Don't feel pressured. Every one of them will be available for C-bills eventually.

They're already talking about a new IS pack, because Community Warfare will polarize people into Clan or IS, and people who want to play IS in CW won't have bought clan packs, but still want a fair shake at mechs they will use plus the various preorder fancy extras.

As a loyal IS Mechwarrior I didn't buy the shiny Clan packs and so is eagerly awaiting the next IS pack. If it contains any mechs that I want, I will buy it, if not I will save my cash for other things. :)

Expect an IS mech pack every 6 months apart.
Expect a clan mech pack every 6 months apart.

Suddenly! Tada! Quarterly sales to keep the game healthy.

Predictable kinda like the weather, but not a bad thing. Asides from mech bays and heros you can get everything eventually.

I think the reasoning behind clan wave 2 was probably to generate some revenue after the IGP split ... keep in mind that IGP probably kept a significant fraction of revenue from all the previous packs. They may also have wanted to have a greater selection of clan mechs before the introduction of CW. Both are good reasons for a faster release schedule.
