Bront, if this were for group queue, I'd agree, but it isn't.
No amount of helping your team matters sometimes when the team is just not into winning, or is full of newer players, etc. There is no possible way to induce your team to win through any amount of tactics, skill, communication, etc...you can try, but in the end, it's not up to you, and that's fine, if there's not a tourney going that's based off of wins validating your entire score, or nullifying it.
I don't care if i lose all the time due to poor team tactics, newer players, etc, but when they have opt-in tourneys that require me to rely on people I am not on comms with, who may not even speak english, have zero skill at the game, etc, it's a hat trick.
You know I'm no slouch, I've been staying in or close to top 10 for CTFs all weekend, and that's with no super aggressive, ignore my team and go all-out style of play, that's just from my normal play style. I play the CTF as direct-fire support, so I need my team to be engaged for me to be supporting them, so there's no way I can grind out the tourney on solo play alone, I need the team to also do well. I've had 1k damage losses this weekend, where half the team did great, but a few discos killed it for us...Ok, fine, but you wouldn't have non-participation in any real comp tourney, would you? Your whole team is there to compete along with you, so it makes sense that it would be team wins that count.
In solo queue, where not everyone is even competing, I think it serves only to frustrate and gimp those actually trying to compete. And if you've seen better team play actually encouraged by this sort of scoring system, well then more power to ya, because I've been seeing nothing but less team play, and more FF, solo suicide dives, stepping in lines of fire, etc from this event and the last one like it....
