Just put ads to the side, not in the way.

Good idea

A lot of car forums’ have been bought up by big companies or to keep the forum going they have a few small ads

They could use the cockpit display to have a small add

I don't think we should mind it would help the game stay alive

You really made me laugh on this one haha

As Mack would say on Worth a Buy, I would rather have my balls slammed in a door than have adds in the cockpit.

So a funny a good laugh.

The little cockpit screens have little use as of yet... -.-

But no, not in the cockpit. More acceptable as something clickable in the mechlab, or the store... It would be the least intrusive on the patcher.

If it HELPS DELIVER BETTER SERVICE/PRODUCT and if it is TASTEFULLY DONE, I have no problems with ads. Seriously, do all these forumites work for competing game companies?

Accept as a fluff thing, aka advertising in-universe companies/products, no in-game ads.

Much better solution is expanding external advertising to drum up sales, but I suspect thats in the boat as MWO on Steam, after CW is done.

The only game I ever saw that did in game advertising in a somewhat acceptable manner was Anarchy Online. Although it was odd seeing a US Navy or Old Spice ad running near continuously from every video billboard in the game it didn't disrupt gameplay and after a while it was just background noise you didnt pay attention to unless you wanted to look at it or wanted to crack a joke about it. The Old Spice whistle was kinda funny in an irritating sort of way.

In no way would I want to see some ad play when I'm booting up for a match. I want the match to load not some ad. In game advertisement just is generally a bad move unless it can be done either subtly or if it just fits in with the theme. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 has rides that are Hersey's themed. It's an advertisement but it actually works in context to the game.

Now What might be interesting is if they could work out some sort of Advertisement scheme with Harmony Gold. We put up Billboards advertising Robotech and they let us have Unseen.... I could go for that.

In-game advertising... no. I've hated the concept ever since it was tried in the original Planetside.

The phrase 'it's called drifting' still makes me want to throttle a puppy to this day!

That might make me quit the game, and I'm not being dramatic in the least.

edit: forget the might, I'd be gone

I could see adding a image ad to, say, the site and maybe the odd one in the loader.

That's it. No videos.

Send a care package of Top Ramen to the devs if you are worried about them, but please do not float ideas of in game advertisements of out of game products. It would bring about very sad outcomes.

The reason I do not pay for Cable or Satellite TV is because I'd be paying for the privilege of being advertised to. Back when I did, I muted the TV during breaks, but eventually it just annoyed me too much to be worth keeping up with the shows I like. I would similarly stop paying for a game which forced me to endure advertisements in order to access its content, and more likely just stop playing outright regardless of how much I liked the game. Our world is already oversaturated with advertising- I don't care to see it in my entertainment when I already have to see it everywhere else.

I may be a bit overzealous this way, but every time an ad gets between me and something I want (especially in the case of any kind of ad with animations, sounds, popups, or other offensive and potentially performance-harming gimmicks), I make a mental note of whose ad it was and make sure to not ever buy their product. I would go out of my way to drive off other potential customers if it was something exceptionally bothersome.

The moment an advertisement lands on my screen in game in any way shape or form (I mean third party/not related to MWO services such as mech sales and MC), whether its for paying or non paying customers, is the moment I burn all the files to discs and mercilessly torture the insolent plastic for as long as possible, then melt it down and uninstall MWO.

I want to play a REAL game with thought and feeling put into it (hitting the gray area as time goes on... but still), not something that instantly makes me question whether I am playing some facebook or web browser game from some cheap kid developers or a battletech/mechwarrior game.

I don't understand the sheer amount of hate being put out. It's a game that needs revenue, and this is one way to get it.

Some of you don't want to see them. Okay, that sounds reasonable. There are those of us who find it okay. That's understandable as well.

Win/Win solution proposition. Put ads in, but toggle them as off by default. Then tell us we *can* enable ads if we want to help with the revenue in a patch. Just don't penalize us if we don't.

Objections?

Most of the "T.V." I watch is in the form of purchased seasons or on Netflix. When I get into the car I plug my cell phone or iPod into it and listen to advertisement free music. All of my bills are paid online so unless something in the mail comes from someone I know it all goes in the trash.

I avoid marketing practices like the plague it is.

Because then people would whine about advertising. You learn that if you actual read around the community, people will always be unhappy and will find something to hate.
