4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?
Was on caustic early in the match. Zipping around on the top edge of the crater shooting at peeking mechs. Nobody was hitting me. Suddenly, AC20 to the cockpit, dead. My armor was completely untouched.

As i seen you quite often that day and i ran a BJ AC20 built, it might have been me. ^^

1. Where did you place?
1st in Quickdraw
14th in Dragon (mostly played only on Friday)

2. What loadouts were most effective?
Mostly used QKD-4H with 2 PPC, 3 SRM4 (2.5 tons ammo), XL300, 16 DHS, 3 JJ.
On Dragon I run 1 Gauss (3.5 tons ammo), 2 ERLL, XL340, 10 DHS.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?
It took an enormous amount of time. I didn't count the number of matches but I wouldn't be surprised if I put in near or over 20 hours of gameplay. It took about 7 hours just to change my score and bump up from 2nd to 1st place. I don't think it was worth the time I put into this tourney, but 1st place seemed so close to give up. I probably won't even bother opting in to the next one.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?
I played so many matches that it's hard to remember anything significant. All I can remember at the moment is turning a locust into a zombie mech by putting 2 ppcs into its left and right torso. He must have not had much armor.

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?
I recall seeing Horks, Deathlike, AidanPrydeX, and Cookiemonter669 (sorry if I didn't remember you). Never recall seeing RH7N0 (who was my main competition), Pizzadog, or many of the players on the leaderboard for that matter. There were many stomps and it was not easy since I was oftentimes playing with the highest ELO players. On Sunday night, it seemed like I was getting put in with the same elite players every game (Lords, SJR, 228, CSJ, etc.) and thinking "Why me?". The competition seemed to become more fierce as the tournament went on with the last day being LRM hell and almost all losses. But I usually did well in the games that wasn't a complete stomp loss.

I placed 2nd in Hunchies. I only used the HBK-4P(c) that was mastered. That is the champion version of the 4p. I had 8 ml and a 275 std. no ams. For modules i had siesmic, radar derp, and adv zoom for mech modules. Medium laser range 5 for weapon modules and arty and a cool shot 9. My best game was on Terra Therma 829 dmg, 7 kills and 5 asst. 147 match score.

1. Where did you place?

47th in Catapults

2. What loadouts were most effective?
5x LRM5+Art, BAP, CC, Radar derp, target decay, Sensor module, LRM5 range+cooldown.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?
14-15 maybe. Played a little Suday night and Monday. Probably could hve plced top ten if I had known earlier bout the tourny, and hadn't lost power for 24 hours.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?
Weirdest was not getting terra therm over and over again!

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?

Yep. It seems other people playing Cats trent towards sacrificing speed and offence for defencive weaponry. Since with speed tweak I cap out around 81 KPH, I can be any where on the map as fast as most lights and mediums. With BAP, CC, nd sensor mod, I can lock targets at over 1km and start making hits at 1.1, I grind people down before they can hit me and keep moving.

I wound up 6th in Wolverines, running "Revy" xl310, 3 med lasers, 3 A-SRM6's. It took somewhere between 50 and 100 matches I think. I had the chance to play against some really good players and Monday night was actually really fun. Most of the teams were actually pretty competent. :)

I played against you, we were on opposite teams. We were on HPG and as the two teams circled each other your team Capped our base and won. You scored 15 damage. I was in the basement and got a kill. We never met. Awesomes were few and far between in matches.

Yeah, that was plan B when I saw our lances abandon the assault lance, so we just waddled our way to the base. Figure if I can't make it good, make it quick! :)

I managed after months (it felt like it) of matches to place 7th in the Victors. I tried several builds but can't say one was much more effective than the other, a few times I would score 800+ damage and my team would still lose somehow... or one loadout was better at some maps than others, for example:

Brawler Victor with 2 PPCs and AC20 in the arms... squeeze in 2 LRM5s for longer shots and higher damage score.

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?

Killing the last 2 mechs of the match in one shot/volley with the above Victor. They (Orion & Jagermech) were in the mouth of the cave in Forest Colony and I was trying to shoot only 1 of them but the AC20 round hit the Jager while the Dual PPCs hit the Orion. Both went down simultaneously and match was over... never managed that before! :)

I think there should be an achievement like "Killing Two Birds with 1 Stone" for people who manage that!

Made it to 30 something in Awesomes, but that faded near the end of the tournament (I didn't have time to play then.)

Couldn't catch yah, Rage, but well played!

1. First in Catapults, second in Black Hawks.

2. For Catapults, I got to the low 2100's using my everyday build (2x AC10 + 4x ML), but after failing to get any more counting matches after the ~2100 mark, despite about ten more hours of constant work, I switched to twin-Gauss and got my last two counting matches in that. The twin-AC10 build is generally superior because of greater speed, DPS, and armor, but the Gauss rifles are better able to consistently hit the same component. I recommend the AC10 build for general purposes.

For Black Hawks, all counting matches were done with my everyday build (6x cERML + 5x cMG). I believe this to be the best weaponry for the Black Hawk in the current state of the game.

Here are the Smurphy links to the exact builds in which I got my counting matches:

CPLT-K2, 2x AC10 + 4x ML + XL300 + 1 DHS + 4 tons ammo

CPLT-K2, 2x Gauss + 2x ML + XL280 + 5 tons ammo
(I don't much care for this build, and would never use it for anything other than a competititon such as this one, where placing many killshots was scored so highly. The Jager does twin-Gauss better in virtually every way.)

NVA-S, 6x cERML + 5x cMG + 2 tons ammo

3. Oh, boy ... not altogether sure of the figures, but I calculated that I dropped approximately 270 matches altogether (half in Black Hawk, half in Catapult). If each match took 8 minutes, on average, including loading & search times (which were sometimes surprisingly long), then that's about thirty-six hours, or nine hours per day. As I wrote elsewhere, that can't be healthy.

4. Well, I dropped into one match and Kh0rn was on my team. Near the end, he was being harrassed by a Locust, the last enemy 'mech, and I jumped down off of a building to help out the Atlas King. By accident, I landed on Kh0rn's Atlas, which was cored cherry red; I destroyed it by collision! No shot fired, simply a DFA, and I was stuck with the teamkill. This is one of only two DFA kills I've ever witnessed in MWO, and this one just had to be a teamkill on my buddy! We both had a good laugh about it afterward.

5. Only a few times did I encounter direct competitors that I recognized (Flyby215 in his "Jester" Catapult, Mister D in his Black Hawk), and I don't remember if we ever actually traded shots. However, I was continually facing the top scorers for other chassis, and it was pretty rough. Kh0rn once took me down with a single 92-pt. Alpha strike to my front-CT at point blank range. I was practically fresh, too, until that giant sneeze hit me.

1. Where did you place?
I placed 18th for catapults - 1923 points
My best match was 242 points (6 kills 5 assists 783 damage) on friday night (sat morning here in OZ) and I got a few more 200+ matches. I got up to 5th place saturday and my goal was to crack 2000 points but as the tournament went on I found it harder to replicate my earlier scores.

2. What loadouts were most effective?
I ran the Catapult K2 - I have 2 of them - I've sold my missile chassis off
One was running a 300xl 2xERLL 2xLL, the other 265XL 2x gauss 4x ML
I mostly ran the gauss - and I did really well with it averaging 4.5 K/D over about 50 wins and 30 losses but it simply didn't do enough damage. I took 6 heads off. I got 4 or 5 kills numerous times with 5-600 damage but only ~180 match score.

I settled on a 300XL 2xuac5 4ML build wich let me put out good damage and put in several 900+ damage rounds - but by that time kills seemed to have dried up.

3. How many matches/How much time did it take?
I played about 80 matches over the weekend

4. What was the funniest/weirdest thing that happened to you in the tournament?

Craziest thing i saw:

Triple kill arty strike, killing 2 whales and a something

I was in that match? I thought it was a dire, commando and jenner - Terra therma yeah? on the ramp?

I reloaded the game after a computer crash to find I'd been placed in a match (it had been searching) rejoined and a shadowhawk was taking me to pieces slowly - killed him.

I had a 5c 50c moment when I rounded a corner point blank into a 5 x srm6 stormcrow on river city but took his head clean off 1st shot.

On the negative side though, 5 separate matches were spoiled by players going bezerk on their teammates delibaratly at the start of a match. I think they were players just trying to tank their elo - not content with just disconnecting or derping into the enemy, they'd try to ensure a loss.

5. Did you play against your rivals and how did you do?
I priority targeted other catapults of course but didn't play against any I recognised. saw many other top 10 players for other chassis. The one match I did drop with Carl Avery I was keen to see how I'd perform against him but derp stuck on terrain right in front of a dire whale as the fight opened and instagibbed for lone player killed in an otherwise 12-0 stomp :(

I witnessed first hand the godlike power this build had in Carl's hands. I floated around in one match, getting lots of damage with my Kitty Fox, getting close to several kills, only to see the enemy spectacularly explode before my eyes. I'd look over... and there was Carl! Over and over again, I'd say to myself, "Here comes my payday!," and Carl would instagib them into oblivion.

Carl Avery has killed ..............
Carl Avery has killed ..............

He ended up with 8 kills, 8-900 damage, while I got 7-800 damage and 2 kills. It made my Kitty sad. :(

Either way, it was impressive to witness. I'd say Carl earned that top spot. Now I need to try his build. :P
