Ehm.... simply no!

Have a look at the videos from league games and streams from competative players, Gauss is defintely not dominating the meta-game. I feel it is pretty much in line where it should be.

just my 2cent's for feeding a possible troll?

I HATE this...

you can't compare the public scene of the game to the extremely small competition realm of the game....you just can't......

most of the player base has nothing to do with comp players, play different than comp players and don't care at all about comp play yet we get all the hand me down nerfs that comp players probably cry themselves to sleep over.

2 different worlds in the same game.

Gauss achieves great synergy with lasers. Since you already have to spend a second staring at the target due to the beam duration, you can charge your Gauss and fire in the mean time.

A Gaussjager* is the most deadly IS Heavy IMHO. Dual Gauss+4xML+71 kph+1 jump jet. At the same time it's a glass cannon and every critical hit to the RT or RA might end your game.

Double Gauss on a DWF-PRIME takes it to another level. 2xGauss+2xLPL+4xERML. All the weapons are arm mounted and pinpoint accurate. At 400 meters you can deliver 81.2 points of damage within 1.25 seconds. And your arms are CASE protected, so the gauss explosion is pretty much irrelevant. And nobody targets the arms of a Direwolf: everyone goes for the torso. Did I mention 22 DHS?

I meant a Gaussphract. I pilot the Gausjagger too, but the Phract is much better.

Duall Gauss 2 ER PPC Direwolf. Nuff said

The issue isnt the weapon, its the mech.

Gauss rifles are supposed to be dangerous, so they are.
Be happy they can be destroyed easily

DireWhale will kill you anyway, with gauss, ppc, lasers, lbx, uac whatever. Maybe crab will fix that...

I don't tend to have much trouble with dual guass mechs but i have Received a couple of killing blows from Dire fails with such a combo. One minute i'm running around minding my own business. Do something stupid like overheat or get caught out in the open or ambushed and BAM i'm dead especially if i have an XL.

BUT i do not consider Gauss to be OP i'd much rather be one-shotted by someone who actually has to charge a weapon and aim at a moving target than by some boring no skill LRM spammer hiding behind a hill 900m away in his stalker.

I tried the Dual Gauss thing in my jagermech- S and i thought it was alright but i've not used it since and when these mechs get on the receiving end of a high damage output mech at close range the Gauss is a weapon you don't want as when it goes bang 9/10 it takes the component it's fitted too with it and more often than not it's neighbouring component too if it's in a bad way.

Honestly, sounds like some people got killed by a dual gauss build and are now crying "OP, OP, NERF!!"

I haven't noticed anything terribly out of balance with the gauss rifles. Dire wolfs can be a pain, but they're so slow, and taking out an arm effectively halves their firepower.

Furthermore, I think it's important to realize that gauss rifles are meant to be incredibly dangerous. If I get cored by a dual gauss build, I'm not mad at the dual gauss rifles, I'm mad at myself. What was I doing going straight towards that <insert dual gauss mech> anyways?

Dual gauss's are only available on certain chassis anyways, and I think that in itself balances it accordingly. If your Dire Wolf can fit two guass's, that's kind of a selling point. It shouldn't be nerfed, but instead should be adapted to. In fact, this same conversation has and will probably continue to be had for LRM boats, laser boats, SRM boats, and AC boats, in which my answer will undoubtedly be "you have to adapt".

I would hate to see everything "balanced" to the point where every system is almost homogeneous. and it feels like every other MMO. Part of the charm of MW is that some builds core you in one hit while others are meant to widdle you down from afar or punch you up close or... you get the point.

This game rewards those who adapt. We should be lucky to have game that actually provides a different challenge to adapt to every match.

And just a quick note on weapon convergence:

Is the way weapon convergence is implemented now realistic? No.

Should it be? I don't know, every mechwarrior game to date has had the same convergence "problem", so it doesn't bother me that much... I'm used to it.

as long as there will be ppl that find the firing mechanic "hard to learn" ( jesus....! ) no one will state, that the gauss could be OP

but every sane person knows:
gauss is really awesome...super high velocity makes it almost instahit within 600m....and you don´t have to lead targets much...not even on 1000m.

just need a slight decrease in velocity to put some skill back into it.....done

By reducing the velocity, your basicly transforming your GAUSS into a regular auto-canon.
Gauss ARE supposed to be very hight velocity weapon.

Agreed. Even from long range, I've usually done something less than brilliant to give the gauss shooter a target.

There's nothing quite like the sound of gauss slugs tearing through a mech. It gets your attention quickly. If you want to stare at it, your match will be over very shortly.

Dual Gauss is fine.

Big investment, for big payoff. Working as intended IMO.

Any other similar tonnage of Ballistic weapons will out DPS dual gauss.

Dual Gauss is disgusting, fix it now godammit. Every match dual gauss on majority of mechs. Single gauss is unusable, dual gauss is OP as hell. Fix it. For god's sake.

A thought... If your mech cant survive the impact of dual, triple or quad gauss (all builds in game ATM), then maybe, and call me crazy, you shouldnt be in front of one long enough to get shot.

And yes, there are some really good pilots who can thread/lead targets with amazing accuracy, but still. If a sniper is out there, you simply dont go boldly charging out into the open where s/he can open you up.

well...problem is, PGI officially gave permission to use macros a while back (originally discussed because of the 6 ac2 jägermech makros, before ghost heat nerfed it) ... a move that i personally oppose, but non the less it´s officially allowed to cheat the system... simply because PGI is either too lazy or just not capable of dealing with it...

Tune in next week when center torso auto aim system is allowed....

I'm sorry...but is this thread bitching about dual gauss, or about dual-gauss/dual ppc on a heavily-tonned and armored mech? Because the two are completely f****** different.

I think the OP might be confusing triple gauss with dual gauss.

It's a 100 ton mech, locked into a bad engine size that has no endo, and no ferro.

It is slow, it has narrow torso yaw & pitch angles, it has limited arm movement with no lower arm actuators.

This is what this mech does, it is a turret with high firepower but poor manueverability.

It's a mech that punishes people for making mistakes, but is also punished very heavily when it makes mistakes.

Well, so are PPCs (actually, MUCH higher velocity than Gauss to account for a projectile massing millions of times less doing 2/3 the damage)

Not that i think gauss needs nerfing, people always going to whine about what killed em, cos they think they are the best and should never die to anything..

Only dual gauss build I have a problem with is the Dire Whale, because you know that after you get hit with the gauss it has enough other weapons to finish you off the rest of the way very quickly.

But...

Furthermore single Gauss is absolutely useless and needs some serious work... Highlanders for example are basically built to carry single Gauss and are almost useless because the weapon requires too much effort to fire accurately for a single unit.

Single gauss is far from useless. I use a single gauss, two LL and two ML on both a Cataphract and Timber Wolf and they're both very effective builds.
