Most of my new mechs have AMS, but I see very few pugs with AMS

LOL, I get my pugs from the same place all the rest of you who are extremely irritated and depressed by pug play get them....I cant buy a win in pugs, im back to 6 in the hole, I was as close as 2 wins from having my Win rate go into the positive, my KD is rising, im only -8 in the hole atm....but wins? Pppffftt.......couldnt get a win streak if I gave the MM sexual favors....

cant be bothered with ams, less hassle to stand behind a wall and not die than compromise existing builds.

According to the site above, it takes around 9 AMS ammo to down 1 LRM. Therefore:

180 LRMs per ton
Times(*)
9 ams per missile
Equals (=)
1620 AMS rounds

Which means it takes 0.81 tons of AMS ammo (since AMS ammo is buffed to 2000)... to destroy the equivalent of 1 ton of LRM ammo.

It takes 32 armor points to make 1 ton or armor. 180 missiles theoretically deal 180 points of damage upon full contact, which translates to 5.6 tons of armor. Which means 1 ton of missile ammo can cause up to 5.6 tons worth of armor damage.
Since it takes 0.81 ton of AMS ammo to negate a full ton of LRM ammo, by investing in just 1 ton of AMS ammo, you can save potentially up to 6.9 tons of armor. That's what I call a good deal. If the full company takes 1 AMS each, it can potentially save the armor equivalent of FOUR Atlases (Max Atlas armor is 19 tons) from LRMs, and far more if it manages to shoot down NARC pod.

Granted, AMS does have the tendency to shoot at missiles that are not going to hit anything anyway, but even if 50% of the ammo is wasted, that's still 3.5:1 ratio, which is great! And as I mentioned, just by shooting down a NARC can literally save an entire mech on occasions.

OK, so how many missiles does an AMS take out in an LRM20 salvo?

What we need is an AMS reward. 3CB and 0.3XP per missile destroyed, 50/5 for NARC. Then watch the AMS use SOAR.

Here a few. per each AMS within range. AMS works much much better than it was designed to on TT, So much more so that I have AMS on every mech. I never used in on TT, it was WORTHLESS there.

Lights are also better, but they're still not good. I also have AMS on each and every one of my mechs, and two on the Jester, and LRMs are still annoying.

I have pretty much removed AMS from all of my mechs, because frankly LRMs just don't ever really cause me a problem. I use cover. The tonnage is way more valuable spent on things that will keep me alive or kill the enemy, and that was before the damage nerf.

Everyone of my Mechs are standard with AMS. PUG or group. Mostly PUG. :(

Single AMS takes out 3-6 Inner Sphere LRMs per salvo. Three, if the missiles are targeting you, up to six if the missiles are targeting someone behind you, allowing your AMS to eat through the missiles for longer amount of time. Against Clan LRMs, the AMS can take out roughly twice as many missiles, due to streaming nature of the CLRMs, so 6-12 missiles out of 20.

IMO, equipping AMS and using it requires basically 0 skill, so there shouldn't be any extra rewards. Helping out your teammates is reward in itself.

As I mentioned in page 2 of this thread, I am also good enough to never be concerned about LRMs getting to me. But with the ammo buff, AMS is now a great tool to help out the meatshields (teammates) to survive longer in order for me to deal more damage. In pug matches at least, it is very much worth it now. All of my mechs, including my Firestarters, can spare 1.5 tons, and in case of Dual AMS mechs such as my STK-5S or FS9-S, even more.

I must congratulate you on your team contribution then. :)

4000 AMS ammo goes a long way to reduce missiles damage, although from my Dual AMS STK-5S experience, I spent on average, around 2000 AMS ammo per match. My Stalker is way slower than your Jester though, so that probably explains why you managed to be there to soak up all those missiles.

It's not so much that carrying AMS deserves a reward as it is that if there was a reward for it more people would carry AMS.

I'm okay with giving out some cash if it means it would get more people to protect their team with AMS cover.

I often am the meet shield... and still don't run AMS.

Saying "I'm too good to be hit by LRMs" is just selfishness. There's always someone in a bad position or in a mech too slow and too far from any useful cover to reach it before taking a crapload of missiles. Not counting new players that get smashed by lurms everyday...

So if you CAN spare a few tons to bring an AMS, do it! Every single missile destroyed that otherwise would hit an ally is a NOPE you scrub on the enemies' face.

I just changed my Prime(I) build around to ERLL, 2xERML, ECM, 3xAMS, 9,000 rounds of AMS ammo.

So... Maybe?
