So, we all know the old Dervish from the TRO....

It really needed upgrading. The mech had potential...it was just ugly (IMHO). So, there is an image on the web that BLaaR made a paper model from that is just awesome.


And I have used his work to make a model kit of the new and improved Dervish. This baby is completely hand made...no 3D printing here.

And quickly slapped together:








The arms and hips have ball & socket joints so it can be easily posed. This last pic is with the 11" Armorcast Atlas.

This looks like something that would come out of a Mechwarrior 4 MekPak, nice work!

fantastic! My only knock is the laser is supposed to be on the outside of the arm paddle, but that's minor. Overall, very very cool!

This is really impressive! What material did you use? Some sort of resin?

I think it's similar to what Almeras used to do(still does?) He finds plans for a mech paper craft and makes it instead of paper, in styrene sheet. I think he then takes that and makes a mould and casts it.

Ace- Agent Cooper and I have been doing that type of conversion for YEARS now...since about 2008. Coop shard the technique with Almeras who then did a Hunchback using that process...but now all his stuff is 3D printed.

Bishop: Dude...really? Look at the flow of those arms. Having lasers on the side would not be aesthetically pleasing.

Odanan: The masters are made of plastic then rubber molds are made from those and copies are cast in resin.

Seriously though, love your Dervish model, really wish I could make this stuff!

I'm just pointing out where they go, Where ya decide to put thm is up to you, the artist, but I would not dislike them on the outside, lol

Where did you get that info? The mini has them over the SRMs and the Battletech Wiki states: The lasers are placed just above the launchers and ensure the 'Mech is still capable of fighting should it run out of missiles

It's not a perspective issue.

The drawing predates the mini. Thats why I circled both. You can see the housing on the outside. Later drawings lost that, and the Mini was based off the 3050 TRO, not the 3025. And the 3050 TRO pretty well butchered everything, and had massive editing discrepancies between the two, but pretty much all future publications used the 3050 stuff as grail. Heck, show me, on the original 3025 design, just where on top the lasers are? There is nothing on top.

Argue all you like, it's not a knock on your Model which is awesome, just one of the many discrepancies (like adding LA and hand actuators to the KGC) that fell between the cracks in editing.

Also, neither the 3025 or 3050 TRO lists "The lasers are placed just above the launchers and ensure the 'Mech is still capable of fighting should it run out of missiles ", and the 3039 (printed waaaay later) remarks simply "strapped on top". Based off the bad editing of the 3050 TRO and it's horrible art.

All I am saying is that ORIGINALLY, and how I personally prefer, the lasers, were, indeed, in the sides.

On the mini and 3050 model they are in the recess above the launcher tubes.

The only thing I do not like about print version above is the lack of a recessed housing for the lasers. It leaves the forearm too blocky.
