Since apparently we are getting 4 variants per mech, i guess the only question is: Which Executioner and Cheetah will they leave out? Im not too bothered about the Cheater, the Prime is good enough without any help tbh.. but the Executioner is a different story... They could really screw it by leaving out the D variant (I hope they have more foresight than that, its going to need a lot of help with 12 tons tied up in Hoverjets and MASC)

There's also the question of where they'll get the fourth Scat from...

Yeah, that IS a question.. with the Hellbringer they just left it out, but if the top tier reward for this pack is an extra variant per mech that approach might cause a bit of an outcry.

They could just announce: "4th variant for all mechs except the Shadow Cat". No matter what tier you buy, you will still be getting extra variants. People will complain? yes, but just because in the internet people will complain even when getting free stuff.

Edit: they created a new variant for the Shadow Cat... interesting...

It will be a long winter for this thread. I suppose the new pack will only be announced at the 2015's second half.

What I can bet about that pack?

- it will be composed of Inner Sphere mechs.
- it will be Comstar-related (might even be called "Clanbuster Pack")
- it will include the Black Knight and Cyclops.
- the light mech will probably be the Mongoose (most likely ECM-capable).
- the medium mech will be the Sentinel, Wyvern or Crab.

I got about 1 more Clan pack left in me but they are going to have to be really good Clan mechs to get me to drop another $120.

Light - Arctic Cheetah
Medium - Shadow Cat or maybe Viper
Heavy - Caludron Born or Night Gyr
Assault -Executioner, Turkina or maybe Kingfisher.

Dunno if that guy still plays but he owes PGI $120~

So long story short I wanted to reply to this thread because several of the proposed mechs in the mech packs are not even remotely possible within the current timeline. I'm only talking about the proposed packs that could come out around 3050-3052, not the 3053+ packs, fyi.

So the older mechs that would be "really neat" to see in game like the Mackie aren't even possible. The mech factories were bombed out in humanity's ignorance and bloodthirst a good 20+ years ago. Luckily for us some of those designs were recovered during the Helm Memory Core and similar discoveries. So I'm going to go through the list real quick, answer with a brief yes or no according to Sarna:

Mongoose: Yes, recovered tech
Thorn: Yes, ComGuard GG
Sentinel: Yes
Wyvern: No because each house had only a handful (at least 1) and we are not ComGuard so we don't get them until after Tukayyid.

Crab: Yes
Black Knight: Yes, Drac Combine has them
Excalibur: Yes, low but acceptable numbers existed
Champion: No, we are not ComGuard
Cyclops: Yes, rediscovered tech
Pillager: No, no factories and no 3rd variant until reopening at a later date
Emperor: No
Thug: Yes
Crockett: Yes, only from Rosebud

Javelin: Yes, be glad Fed Suns likes to buy in bulk
Assassin: Maybe? Numbers were low by 3025, let alone 3050 (this being in-game is almost like someone going to Iraq with a Springfield M1903 rifle and a Nambu, wearing WW1 tropic gear)

Dervish: Yes, better choice over Assassin
Lancelot: No, a dozen original units and a few hundred 02 variants isn't enough
Merlin: Yes, better alternative to the Lancelot
Charger: Yes
Mackie: No

Quote

When the Mackie was first built, it epitomized the Terran Hegemony's technological advantage over the great houses. Still, the Mackie had such symbolic importance to the Terran Hegemony that it remained in production until the start of the Amaris Civil War, although it has not been built since then

Clint: Yes, less than a few hundred originals but new variants being produced by 3050 (PGI could fudge it and give us some "field modified survivors of the original" to fill out the other 2 variants. We should assume that no untouched originals exist)

Hermes II: Definite yes
Vulcan: Yes

Disclaimer: Below are Wolf's Dragoons variants, I wouldn't suggest adding them unless PGI plans on adding the faction or alternatively making the mechs available in limited numbers somehow.

Firefly: Yes
Falcon: Yes
Hoplite: No, numbers quickly lost, irreplaceable after 3020
Flashman: Yes, also not a Wolf's Dragoons Mech according to Sarna. Regular pilots fighting for the Lyrans had access to them.

Gallowglas: No, not Dragoons and not available 'til 3055
Annihilator: Yes

That's my assessment according to the wiki, which is rarely wrong. Note that I ignored all Clan units. This is because the Clans don't have to worry about timeline constraints; they took care of what Mechs they did have and only lost a small percentage of them in small ground wars and (later on) Trials.

Pillager: Unsure, would say no as there are no factories

The original uses tech available throughout the Succession Wars. HildCo just decided not to do any production runs for some inexplicable reason. They actually had the production line mothballed until they could get the parts to build the 3Z again.

Yeah, I read that, combining that with the large number of surviving units resulted in my "unsure" status. I'd probably suggest the inclusion of it personally. The mech isn't getting any younger and when the factories reopen IS omnimechs come to exist, which will probably give such an old battlemech a run for its money.

At the same time, we don't have 3 variants until the 3Z and upgraded variants come out in that same year, 3056 I believe. I'll mark it down as a no, that's what makes the most sense.

The devs suggested we are reaching 3052 now and we might get a jump forward in the timeline, so there is a great chance the next packs will include 3053+ mechs. They need to do this because we are running out of attractive chassis (Merlin? most people never heard about it. Now Bushwhacker...)

About availability, there is only a handful of King Crabs in the Inner Sphere (same for Kintaro), and it made to the game anyway. So Lancelot, in terms of availability, it's pretty possible (DC has a good lot of them). For availability, see this and this, based on this.

About variants, PGI already created 2 variants (not counting the hero mechs), why would they stop there? If a mech is somewhat iconic or would sell well, they will add it (I'm looking at you, Mauler).

Even so, I'm looking forward for the mech to debut (someday) in MWO.

I would like to remember you guys that we are getting a new Clan pack for each ~6 months. So we can assume there will be a Clan Wave IV around December 2015 and a Clan Wave V around June 2016.

That's exciting!

Let's add this to the OP.

Clan Wave VI (AKA "The Leftovers". Timeline: 3060)

Light: Cougar (or a MASC-less Fire Moth)
Medium: Viper (or Phantom, or Pouncer, or Huntsman, or even Coyotl)
Heavy: Linebacker
Assault: Savage Coyote
Reinforcement/Reward: [any listed medium mech not yet included]

I have faith in Alex and the art dept for redesigning this mech (like so many others with horribad minis/TRO art **cough**Kintaro**cough**) for MWO. I worry NOT! Excepting geometry passes, those are still a crap shoot for aesthetics.....

Only 12% more, actually. Once you get past 6MGs you get Ghost Suck.

You think too small...

6x Machineguns (3 tons of ammo) + 2x Large Pulse Lasers (or 2x ER PPCs if you fancy the heat) + 0.5 tons of armor = the beast
