gold/silver has value? You can build a house with it? You can eat it? No, gold and silver is just as 'useless' as bitcoins, but people attach value to it because of its scarcity, shininess, and convenience.
You can actually build a house with silver, sort of.
I bet you didn't know this but there's silver and gold in your PC. It's not there for the bling factor.

Gold metallurgy predates iron. Or lead.
Lead in the roman empire was actually more sought after than gold. Gold was nice...but they had gold veins sitting unmined while they went after lead for all its various uses. At the hieght of the roman empire they were pulling 80,000 tons of lead out of the ground a week.
Some historians think it contributed to their collapse...using lead piping...since lead poisoning has the effect of lower iq, higher aggression, stunted growth and birth defects. Which are all things that happened during the fall of rome.
All of Romes pipes bringing water to you, were lead...very unsafe.
Lead...plumbus...plumbing.
Makes more sense than their conquest of England magically bringing them to their knees.

It's a bit controversial - while lead pipes are definitely not the safest, concentration of lead in water only goes into dangerous levels if water remains in contact with lead for prolonged period of time (hours), i.e. continuously running water through that lead pipe would be much safer than water kept in a lead container. On top of that, buildup of mineral salts and oxides on the inside of those pipes would further decrease contact with lead.
Personally, I think the actual mining and smelting of lead was a much larger contributor to lead poisoning there - somehow I doubt that folks in ancient Rome took all necessary precautions during that process.

Let me tell you straight away what i think is the problem with BitCoin:
There are 3 different kind of people that are useing it.
1. people that speculate with it.
2. people that use it in the "darknet"(stupid Name)
3. people that want actually use it as currency.
I am sure you can guess which of the 3 groups is the by far most powerful.
And you dont think people use Fiat to do those crimes? How were there drug cartels before digital crypto-currency?
1. Wallstreet with bailout Fiat, 85 BILLION per month
2. Before 'darknet': suitcase full of cash moved to the Bahamas.
3. That and people usually want market forces to determine its worth...not a printing press cartel.

Should PGI think Bitcoins are worth it, sure, accept them.
Likely, not really.
Though it would be very interesting if they did.

1) You are speculating with them, in which case you dont want to spend them on MWO...
2) You are just about to buy some nefarious items with them, in which case you dont want to spend them on MWO
3) You sell nefarious items online and get paid in bitcoins.. do PGI really care to spend effort setting up a payment method exclusively for dealers that play MWO? seems like a pretty damn small market segment...

4) You want to encourage new technologies and innovation. Or simply want an alternative to Fiat paper or carrying metals.

Pretty sure I and everyone mocking Bitcoins in this thread do.
Yeah, I get it. You want to make a NEW CURRENCY and be free of government oversight, man! Livin' that FREE MARKET liberarian dream!
Too bad it's also easily manipulated, can crash or surge at the drop of a hat, and "no regulation whatsoever" is not nor has ever been a good thing. It's a terrible idea, run by people with perhaps honest motivations or even idealism, but if you think it's here to stay, I have a wonderful bridge you can buy.

So this is about politics like it always is. Some moron pundit told you it's bad so you find every negative thing you can say about it without learning any actual facts. Extremely typical. Thanks for proving me right.

Uh... how is stating the overwhelming human tendency towards greed and selfishness political? Just because he called you a Libertarian?
Communism is absolutely great in principle. But then you add in the human factor and it goes to hell.

Which is half a brain more than bitcoin proponents. As excited about this social activism as some of you guys are, in a few years you'll grow out of it, by which I mean you'll grow up.

Anyway, OP:
paypal is starting to accept bitcoins on the behalf of businesses. So, if PGI goes into their paypal settings, I'm sure it's in there.
