I really hope the dropship can be targeted and damaged. Even if it in practice almost never goes below 99 %.

Not to be able to blast the trees and jungle away in my great machine of war already makes the immersion take a big hit but is somewhat understandable. But a dropship with godmode, please no...

Sure, as long as it gets to shoot back right. ;)

3 x LRM-20s

It will, i asked it and Russ confirmed. I think that an entire company targeting a Leopard Dropships could be able to take it down, targeting its weak points. But they would take some heavy losses in the process.

Perhaps you should always assign the first available 'Mech from left to right in the drop ship layout. Allow the player to change it, if they choose. That way the player at X+29 has to be fast only if they wish to change the default assignment and they won't miss the next drop and have to wait +30. It also means when I build my drop ship layout I order the 'Mechs in the order I want to play them and then I don't have to make any assignments in-game because the default assignments are then correct.

Given the player sets the Load-In order, if time permits, they pick and GO, otherwise, at X+29 you just wait 1 s and GO. Not seeing an issue with the current plan. There is no getting the wrong Mech unless you don't Load-In correctly.

if they do that then its worth while for everyone to become "permanent" just for the boosts, I think it should be an LP boost only to keep things fair.

And set it so a "Contract Breach" wipes ALL LP for that faction, no matter how much was in that Bank, so to speak. ;)

Are lights in general going to be of any use? Why would I not just take 4 stormcrows. (I am clan some reason my forum profile comes up as davion.)

220t of SC works. You can change your Profile selection I believe... Check you Profile page.

Why just some punny Medium Lasers for turrets? Some PPC and SSRM turrets would be much better.

This is coming along nicely. The map has gone from the terrain map it was to a nicely art covered map. It is still an open map so keep your heads down and moving. There are now turrets mounted on the gates. Breaking through the gates is not meant to be an easy task but it is also not meant to be a drain on your logistical resources (ammo).

Why not? Why should a break trough a fortified gate should not cost armor, ammunition and lifes?
I think you should need about 1000 points or else to break the gate - and if you are so eager only to use ammo depended ammunition you should pay the price.

Can we strategically pick where the dropships will land?

No; they land at the spawn points, as per... err, the prior update? One of them. Anyways, they land at the initial spawn points; their armament discourages spawn camping.

I would hope it would get in quick and unload its cargo of pissed off BattleMechs before the enemy could knock it down right?

Then attacking one and taking heavy casualties in the doing would be counter productive for a Defending force.

The DS's do not drop right into the enemy compound right? ;)

Actually, I'd really love to see PPC and SRM turrets. Because both can do substantial damage, and both can reasonably be avoided if you're agile enough. The Medium Laser turrets are an annoying mix of ineffectual and absurdly accurate (well, given the context of the Battletech universe anyways).

That's a royal bummer. If the drop commander could pick anywhere on the map for them to land, the strategic opportunities would be amazing, not to mention the change in gameflow.

As a Merc my "smallish" sized company has taken a 7 day (or longer) contract with House Davion. We plan as a group for 3-4 days a week of Team based action.

Q: If I drop Solo anytime during that same week, does that mean I can still only assist (Solo) with any Davion lead Attacks or Defenses for that week?

Apparently they do indeed get to shoot back :) It's the measure to "discourage spawn camping."

Yeeeesssssss.... :)

It'd also be a huge force multiplier: the dropships bring very substantial weaponry. I'd fear they'd be reduced to Artillery 2.0.

Of course, if the map also had heavy AA turrets(destroyable) throughout the map, so the attacking force could initially target AA installations to clear the way for advanced dropship support, now THAT would be pretty damn cool.

That would, in fact, encourage the defending team to advance out of their base: if left unopposed, the attacking team would be able to advance their spawn points - and thus dropship support - right up to their base, and thus bring a constant 12-man team+Leopard Dropship's weaponry to bear attacking the base.

The issue is that it isn't planned to work that way based on what Paul wrote:

Quote

A player who had their ‘Mech destroyed at X+29 seconds will have to be fast with their ‘Mech selection or they will carry over to the next [30] drop meaning they will drop back into the match at x+31 seconds.

They don't wait 1 second and GO. They wait 1 second then wait another 30 seconds because they didn't select in time.

Hey Paul, will the respawn timer be visible? It would help people catch the respawn bus if we knew exactly how much time we have.

I love it!

Question on CW: We can see, in total, what the commands or the list of players fought for planets? I mean, not only to see the team that won the majority of battles for the planet, but the statistics of all the battles for the each concrete world.

And when we are able to test all of this?

Question for Paul

If I am attacking a planet and my force gets wiped out after 40 minutes. Will I then be able to join another force that is either attacking or defending for the remaining 2 hour block or am I locked out?

I like what I'm reading; it's all to the positive. Please tell me you intend to put a mix of the Mercenary's Handbook and MH: 3055 contracting systems, including the types of contracts from those sources? And then the execution of the contracts, through objectives -like you're establishing, now, for planetary play-, please?

I would love to see strategic-level operations, as well, not just tactical, please?

This this this.....

But Im not holding my breath, at least for the initial release of CW and contracts. It would be nice to do a longer 1 month contract, but also take a one off If I wanted to. That would be good for the Lonewolfs for sure.

Can anyone says BOUNTY SYSTEM!!!! :-D

I think that the rewards/bonuses for longer contracts should be exponential.

7 days contract = 0% of the bonus
14 days = 10% of the bonus
21 days = 25% of the bonus
28 days = 50% of the bonus
Perma = 100% of the bonus.

They are most likely working on some kind of system like this but I'd like to suggest that you are being far too generous.

I'd run the numbers more like:
1 week -50% LP or cbill bonus rewards only.
2 week -25% LP or cbill bonus rewards only.
1 month "base" LP rate
4 month +50% LP rate
Faction aka Permanent +100% LP rate

If a great house hires a merc unit for 1-2 operations (1-2 week contract) they aren't seeing them as "loyal" to the cause. Sure they will be paid if they do their jobs but nobody should be expecting to be treated as valuable members of the house military if they bounce around on a weekly basis.

With those sorts of numbers you create 2 experiences:

The 1-2 week guys are fighting for money. Not LP. They don't care about the house they are fighting for and will swap around to whatever house is losing and therefore offering a bonus contract payout. Or will swap around to whatever house offers them the easiest wins because they are in it for the money and feeling good about winning.

The other contracts are for people with some degree of loyalty who are interested in the faction-theme'd LP rewards and seeing a particular faction "win" planets in CW.

You can only solo in CW queues that Davion contracted players are eligible to participate in.

Whatever your unit contract is determines your status for group drops AND solo drops.

Still hoping for a change to LPs and an actual faction warfare goal.
Taking over planets with no other reason that having a chunk of the map your factions colour really is meh. Unique colours, faction mechs, leaderboards and so forth are needed. Does anyone really care about a title that says "I've dropped 500 times"

I don't contribute much to this board, but I would like to say how excited I am to participate in a little CW. I don't have tons of time to play, but very much enjoy the game. Great job and thank you everyone at PGI!
